First time ventured towards this lovely church, as Rushall Hall is next door to it & field opposite had 2 nice horses whom were happy to be cuddled.
This is the third parish church in the history of Rushall.
The first church was built by the Lords of the manor of Rushall close to Rushall Hall in 1220.
The second church was consecrated on the 19th January 1440. This building stood on the site of the present & larger church.
The Baptismal Font dates from around 1200 & is just inside the entrance of the third (present) church building built of limestone in 1854. It is in Early English Style and was completed in 1868.
The church has an al-fresco painting inside above the alter with 2 saints either side. It was painted in two separate halves funded individually. One half for a vicar from Edgbaston & the other for George Mellish (after whom Mellish road is most likely named after).
The al-fresco painting was repaired / refreshed at a cost of £50, 000 not long ago.
The church is light & airy & the vicar very welcoming.
It was a pleasure to be told so much. Shame couldn’t find any history booklets inside the church.
There are 3 services every Sunday. 8am Holy Communion
10.30am Seeker Service – (Godparents’ Sunday service of celebration was today).
6.30pm Choral Evensong
There are graves & commonwealth graves around the church yard.
The church hall / refreshment area is to the rights of the church.
The bells are a peal of six (total weight 29.25cwt) and a call bell. These date from 1900 and are by James Barwell of Birmingham.
This church is a hidden gem within the borough of Walsall.
