Wonderful abbey and so much history. Very friendly people in the gift shop. Altogether memorable and inspiring

I thought have a walk around the grounds of the abbey. I had to get my buggy up the initial steps but thought it would be ok once up. But no. Pretty much in all directions there were steps. I appreciate it’s an old building but making part of it accessible would be the right thing to do. I had to then leave as I couldn’t really see where I could go, only to find more steps to get out of the ground!

What a special place. Loved the architecture and the history + an information leaflet as you walk in. If you visit, please support with a donation at the touch points or collection boxes - upkeep of a building this size if astronomical.

A stunning Abbey with so much interesting history. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting in such a wonderful setting listening to an orchestra rehearsing.

This impressive abbey stands right in the town centre and has an impressive vaulted ceiling and pretty stained glass windows

Loaded with history, some of it positive a lot of it gruesome but most of the roof bosses are difficult to see without breaking your neck.

A beautiful Abbey, absolutely stunning with lots of side chapels. I could have spent days in there as it is so interesting historically.
I also visited the wonderful sculpture in the grounds, Touching Souls, commemorating my godparents

Beautiful and fascinating historic building which bears revisiting at different times of day and in different seasons for the changing light. Amazing old heating system means a winter visit is still pleasurable for those who feel the cold but still worth wrapping up warm! Some gorgeous modern stained glass.

Do I need a car to travel around the Cotswolds? We are planning to go from London and want to take a train to Bath and see Tewkesbury Abbey, if possible. We are planning to stay in Bath for a couple of nights as a base. Thank you.

If I were you, I'd get the train to Bath, then rent a car. Public transport isn't generally that great in any rural area of Britain. Rent a car and explore the beautiful Cotswolds at your leisure. And I'm sure you love Tewkesbury and the Abbey. If you get time, take in the village of Broadway and nearby Snowshill Manor: simply enchanting. Happy exploring.
