The nature reserve was great. We took the long walk, and we even saw a little group of deer near the path - they were a wonderful sight.
The cafe is a lovely building with a delightful outlook over the lake, but oh dear, the service was a severe disappointment. At 2.15 on a Sunday afternoon just about everything had run out, and nobody bothered to remove the blackboard advertising hot soup. Service was desperately slow, tables were dirty and not cleared. Lovely place to stop wiv grand kids on the way back from Blackpool they liked the walk and we all enjoyed the scenery is very pretty and would definitelly come back again if wear up north thanks Sue

Visited here with my husband and young son, was easy to find not far from motorway, lots of places to park to, there was a play ground area which my son really enjoyed, lots of places to walk and some beautiful views we all really enjoyed our visit here and will be visiting again

We visited today for the Santa by the Lake Experience. Santa himself was excellent, really lovely man, very friendly and welcoming, and interacted with both parents and children.
Unfortunately, however, the "pick your own gift", and the choice of gifts available, totally let it down.
If you go to see Santa, in his Grotto, you would expect the norm, and be handed a wrapped gift.
Last year was so much better.

Brockholes cafe really needs work. The serving area had dried up food and stains everywhere. The seating areas were dirty. There seemed to be plenty of staff but not much action. Disappointed.

This was a great place to break a journey and have a leisurely and interesting walk. The visitor centre was good too.

We booked on the Halloween Explorer trail to take the grandkids (6yrs and 3yrs) out with us during October half term. The welcome in the Visitor Centre was fabulous! Lovely staff made a fuss of all the kids that were in the queue and patiently explained what to do for the benefit of the old folks.
The trail was good fun and just the right amount of challenge for all involved. The playground is briliant!
We had lunch at the Kestrel cafe which was a much more tortuous and quite a pricey experience. The very young staff were all doing their best but we were not alone in finding the length of time from arrival to service somewhat frustrating. Also some of the pricing felt on a par with motorway service stations as was the quality (or lack of ) for the prepacked sandwiches. We will return but next time take a picnic.

Unfortunately, Brockholes is a dog free zone, in order to protect the precious wildlife that calls the reserve home. We had a really nice visit to Brockholes. It is a nature reserve not a holiday camp and for me that is exactly what I wanted. Peace and tranquility. My 5 year old Grandson had a great time looking out for wildlife and we saw lots of Butterflies and some stunning neon blue Dragonflies along with Swans in Lake and flying.
The lady in the Welcome Centre was a credit to Brockholes and took time to listen and chat to our little one discussing hedgehogs and birds with him.
He had a great time in the play area which was relaxed and despite the children still maintained an air of peace and calm. He even had a great attempt at the older children's equipment and surprised us all with successfully completing it despite us being on hand to catch him if he fell.
The £5 car park charge was very reasonable compared with normal parking charges and considering that was the only compulsory charge for the Nature Reserve is really good as a donation for the upkeep.
Other visitors were friendly and well behaved which is very rare when visiting more public places but to see the children sharing the equipment and queuing nicely was refreshing.

Fishing is only permitted in two areas at Brockholes ( the river bank and Nook Pool) and you are required to be a member of the relevant fishing club. If you contact us on 01772 872000 we will be pleased to provide membership contacts for the clubs.

Is it suitable for disability scooter

I’m sure they would accommodate a disability scooter as it’s a flat area. Maybe they’d provide a ramp to enter some parts. Best to call up perhaps to double check. 01772 872000 Staff were very helpful to me getting equipment from car to room so I’m sure they’d assist.

The evening do, we are looking at venus at the moment and i noticed no smoking signs all over near the venue when we poped in for breakfast do they offer zones on the night or do smokers have to leave the area?
Our Visitor Village is a no smoking zone. Smokers just need to cross the drawbridge! Given us a call on 01772 872000 if you need any more information.

Are the trails wheelchair friendly
We have routes that are wheelchair friendly. If you call into the Welcome Centre (located on our floating Visitor Village) on arrival, our Volunteers will provide you with a map and lots of advice on the best routes for your needs.

Early mornings and later on in the afternoon tend to be the best times. Just call into our Welcome Centre when visit and our friendly team of Volunteers will give you loads of advice on where to spot them.
