‪Advertised as there being a lot of animals, but there were no animals to be seen. I would not recommend going here if you want to relax fully and unwind, there is a motorway so close you can hear the cars. There should be a warning against coming in winter, people probably come here to see animals as advertised. The trail signs are quite confusing as well, for example there could be a sign post saying yellow left but there would be two different trails going left. It should be advertised as a day in the park in winter.‬

‪I met friends and kids here for a day out, being just off the m6 and outdoors. It was a really frustrating day out, all in all.

The main issue was that the walks aren't signposted. The trails were a mess and unsuitable for pushchairs/young children/disabilities.

We had looked online and seen the map, we had decided in advance to do the longer trail, marked on the map in blue and described as being a "surfaced" path. The website in general describes these paths as accessible.

After lunch (which ill come back to) we went off on the walk. The signposts were yellow and green, there was no directions at all to the walks. Following the low res map on our phones we got going eventually but ended up turning back because the path was completely impassable due to mud.

We asked a very nice volunteer for help, but he also didn't know where the walks were and couldn't really help at all. We went the other way, and the path was better, but there were a lot of rather agressive cyclists who kept ringing their bells to get us to move out the way. It was really stressful honestly. Anyway, it was to late by that point, the kids were already all upset and stressed with all the stoping and starting and waiting around.

Lunch earlier had been a nightmare, the cafe was totally swamped and the staff or volunteers couldn't really handle it. Communication was pretty poor, queues long, the cafe staff were moving slowly, just sort of plodding along. They didn't seem to see the non-socialy distanced queue as an issue.

I've given 3 stars because I don't want to be harsh, some of this could just be them being caught off guard by sudden surge in Covid visitors due to Omicron, maybe the
heavy rains recently washed the path away.

But the signposting need's fixing urgently, and the website should not advertise wheelchair accessible paths so heavily if it's not true, it's dangerous.

Clearly a lot of other people had the same idea as it was heaving in the cafe.‬

‪Visited today with our children to see Santa. Fabulous time in his grotto. He took the time to talk to the children. Wasn’t rushed at all. Well worth the price.‬

Hello Lancs861 - thank you so much for your five star review of our wonderful Santa's Grotto. Not all venues manage it, but with some lengthy phone calls to Lapland, many hours discussing logistics with elves, and a bit of magic reindeer food, we managed to bring the ACTUAL Santa to Brockholes for the festive season. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit. Your support of Brockholes and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust is very much appreciated and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

‪Not really sure how the team at brockholes did it, but they've only gone and got the REAL Father Christmas in thier grotto. This man is the kindest, and most heartwarming man I think I've ever met. How could it not be him. His Interaction with the parents as well as the children was phenomenal. Great work all involved and the wonderful supporting elves.‬

Hello Craig S. Thank you so much for your message. You're so right, we did get the REAL Father Christmas! It took us a while, some lengthy phone calls with elves and some magic food for the reindeer, but we brought him over from Lapland for the festive season until he becomes a bit busier on Christmas Eve. He really is a wonderful man, and our elves are so hardworking (all through the year). We are so glad you enjoyed your visit - your support of Brockholes and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust is hugely appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you and your family again soon.

‪Been numerous times over the years with my family and my grandchildren must admit since the pandemic has become very run down however on 16/10/2021 my daughter and her family went they too have been many times and are fully aware of the parking charge. After a visit of couple hours they went to leave duly paying their £5 parking charge at the machines using bank card. The charge was shown on their bank account two days later. Imagine our surprise when three weeks later she received a penalty notice fine for this visit for non payment of parking fee! She appealed the charge straight away and sent proof via bank statement but to date has had no result of her appeal in fact the company 3D parking have failed to acknowledge her communication in any way. They have zero customer service.
As a result of this incident however my family and the families of my three daughters will not be attending this venue again such a pity it used to be such a good attraction. Just not worth the hassle.‬

Hello 528cherriep. Thank you for your honest review, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your Brockholes experience. Parking income is the most important source of funding to keep Brockholes open and safe for everyone to enjoy. Brockholes is a charity that needs to be maintained so we can remain open and so we can continue to undertake our vital conservation work on site, and in the local area. The pandemic has had a significant financial impact on our charity, and we are extremely grateful for the support of all our visitors. We hope people spend more time at Brockholes then just using the toilets, so maybe next time you could enjoy a lovely walk around the nature reserve as well? Brockholes is a dog free zone as we are a nature reserve, rather than a park, and the nature and wildlife on site is managed by our dedicated team of conservationists. Dogs can cause significant damage to our wildlife, completely innocently, and so our who reserve is free of dogs so we can allow our wildlife and nature to enjoy the best possible life and so many people can enjoy a wilder future. We have passed on your comments to relevant teams within the Brockholes staff. All photographs on the website are taken on-site at Brockholes so we can only apologise that you didn't see this for yourself on your visit. We do hope you will consider visiting again to enjoy the true Brockholes experience that many people enjoy time and time again.

‪We visited brockholes recently . We love the walks nature and peacefulness. Its the first time we have visited in about 5-6months and we were very disappointed at how bad the cafe has become.
The only food on the menu was prepacked basic sandwiches on white bread, pies and chips. Seemed a bit like junk food compared to the lovely food they used to have on offer.
Theyve also replaced the tables with huge long tables with 12 chairs round each one. I felt like i was back in the school canteen
Think ill take sandwiches next time
Such a disppointment‬

‪We pay a £5 parking fee to visit at least three evenings per week after school as the reserve is supposed to be "dog free". This is the main reason we visit as we, as a family, like to walk in nature, allowing our 2 young children to explore and enjoy: children who, unfortunately, have a fear of dogs. While not as overrun with dogs as other local parks, on every visit to Brockholes, there are still numerous owners who insist on allowing dogs off leads, not walking to heel, and permitting them to run around areas which are, apparently, sanctioned for wildlife. There are literally, hundreds of places dog owners can walk dogs all over Preston and its surrounding areas. There is literally, no where we can take our children without being charged at and sniffed by every man, woman and his dog. We have encountered many understanding dog owners when we politely request they call off their sniffing dogs when out children are clinging to us, crying in fear. There are also those who "did not see the signs", "my dogs are harmless", "I've been bringing my dogs here for years", "the woods are for dogs", "there's no reason dogs cannot defecate in the woods". If my children ran around you, jumping over you, sniffing at your picnic and your crotch, I'm sure you would be unhappy. Since when did animals become more important than people. And for a business with cctv cameras all over the carpark, and happy to take £5 per car, perhaps the owners of Brockholes could better enforce their "no dog" rule.‬

‪Our first visit. Lovely walks with great views of the river. Spotted some birds of prey and egrets.Very informative and helpful gentleman in InFocus binocular shop. Sadly let down by the cafe. Weak coffee, cold fries which I had to ask to be reheated, stale crisps and limp salad. Will bring a picnic next time.‬

‪Tricky to get to off the motorway junction but once you arrive there is ample parking. The floating visitor centre is starting to look a bit run down and very few parts of the complex were actually open. One cafe was open and food ok but if we go again a picnic will be our choice instead. We did the trail with the grandkids and for £3.50 you get a map, pencil and tick sheet and tiny treat at the end once you complete the sheet. Not great value but if you treat as a sort of donation to the trust then fine.

Very little wildlife seen and binoculars probably needed to sport any birds of interest.

We did see lots of tiny frogs on the paths so we were amazed that loads of mountain bikers are allowed to use the park riding at high speeds, effectively killing loads of the wild life!

There are also a few kids adventure parks there.

If you are local its worth a visit but not worth travelling a distance to visit.‬

Hi Plippo, thank you for your honest review and for supporting Brockholes and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Brockholes is home to an abundance of wildlife at all times of the year. Sometimes you need quiet moments to find them, and others, they are right before your eyes. On your next visit, we would recommend popping in to see the In Focus team in the Look Out hide. They have a wonderful view of the Number 1 Lake and have a list of ever growing species they have seen from this location. They also sell binoculars if that is of interest to you. There is a path around the nature reserve which is actually a public cycleway known as the Guild Wheel. This path is owned by the council and therefore we have no say as to whether bikes should or shouldn't be there. We encourage people to visit via foot or bike if they are able to as a more eco-friendly form of visiting, but we do ask that visitors are mindful of other visitors and wildlife on the site. Once again, thank you for your honest review. We appreciate any comments and will aim to action the points you have made. We hope you will consider visiting again soon.
