A great place to spend a couple of hours. Yes the place could do with some massive investment but it is run by volunteers and is financed by donations. If anywhere deserved national lottery money this does!!!!!
My granddaughter loved the "activity hunts" and we all enjoyed the flying display. Great to get up close to the owls. Lots to see and very informative and helpful staff.

A fab trip to the sanctuary the volunteers are so lovely, friendly and full of knowledge. The display show was incredible and my children really enjoyed themselves, we will definitely be coming back ❤️

We visited the sanctuary in the afternoon so we didnt see the lunchtime flying display. But it was still a great visit. The fantastic work the volunteers do here is brilliant. I know it seems a lot to pay at £10 per adult and £5 per child, but knowing that the entrance fee we paid is going directly towards the great work they do here makes it very worth while. My Granddaughter loved meeting Max, one of the owls and she was thrilled at giving him a stroke. She is now obsessed with all the owls and she is planning on fund raising somr more money to donate to this fabulous place.

I had such a wonderful time at the sanctuary! It was so lovely to see such beautiful birds and the volunteers are al super knowledgeable and caring for the birds. I got a chance to have an owl fly to me and hold the birds which I enjoyed! Very affordable and the animals are all very clearly well looked after.

This is a little gem our second visit of the summer holidays
The flying display is so good with the opportunity to hold birds and stroke them
The staff are delightful both knowledgeable and friendly
Really worth a visit but be there for 1230 as that is the flying display

This is a fantastic place to go to if you love birds of Prey, especially owls! It's only a small sanctuary and it's a completely voluntary run place. All the birds are fantastically looked after and the volunteers clearly have great bonds with the birds. At the flight display show you're all given your own glove so that you're able to have the opportunity to have the birds land on you. Which is a great experience. It definitely made my birthday memorable! All the volunteers are very knowledgeable and seem very dedicated to what they do. Adult tickets are £10 each and it's definitely worth it. Especially considering all the money made goes completely to the welfare and feeding of the birds. It's a great little, quiet place to go for a fabulous experience!

Wonderful place, volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable as well as entertaining. The owls and eagles are beautiful, lovely environment for them to live in. Excellent work, keep it up :)

Had a great time seeing the birds. Well organised and looked after feathered friends.. I'm well impressed will go to see them again in 2025

Loved it. Handled a Great Grey, Barn Owl and Eagle Owl. Very educational for all. They help rescued owls. Having problems with pictures. The flying displays were respectful to keeper, audience and owl.

Searching hard for something to entertain a 11 and 14 year old I stumbled across this sanctuary. It was perfect. We were all enthralled by the talks given by the handlers and over the moon with the opportunity to hold 3 different owls ranging from small to mahoosive! I wouldn't hesitate to take children of all ages and was thrilled to see how the handlers ( and the birds) encouraged and delighted people with additional needs. The route from main road to the actual sanctuary is a bit dour and we wondered where we were going..but it was well signed and parking was fine. well done to all the friendly and well informed volunteers who do an amazing job. Thank you.

Not if the weather is really bad. Drizzle no problem. £6 adult £4 for children and OAPs.

In the flying shows, do the falconers feed the owls live baby chicks or just dead ones?

Always dead chicks. In the guest interaction show it is just the meat from the legs - just looks like a piece of raw chicken.

Is it cruel to have wild birds tethered and not able to fly at will?

Hi, Yes it is very cruel to tether wild birds, and we would never dream of doing this at Turbary woods.
However the birds you have seen tethered at our Sanctuary are all captive born and bred and as such this is what they have been accustomed to all their life. Each one of them is flown daily, weather permitting.

If you time your visit to watch the superb flying display the a couple of hours at least in the sanctuary itself
