L'ensemble architectural est impressionnant avec une grande place bien dégagée. Assez triste l'hiver. Manque d'éclairage le soir. La circulation gâche un peu la perspective.

Place de la Bourse is a beautiful and convenient spot for exploring the city. The Water Mirror, fountains, cobble stone square and curved buildings are served by a tram station. The stop is also a short walk from Rue Sainte Catherine with all its shops and restaurants, and Place des Quinconces which is rather larger (and arguably grander).
If you're visiting Bordeaux, it's definitely somewhere to stop for photos and as a drop off point for seeing other areas of the city.

The place is very beautiful! Nice water mirror even if there are usually a lot of people. Lots of options for drinking/eating.

coming to Bordeaux without going to see the Place de la Bourse would be a sacrilege.
very nice place highlighted by the water mirror, but even without it, the place is beautiful.

Our habit when we come to Bordeaux is to come see the beautiful mirror of water , a lot of people around this animation , the children like to run on it
the Place de la Bourse is a neighborhood that is always lively that is located right on the banks of the Garonne! and we ended the day at the carnival a few 10 minutes walk!

Created between 1730-1755 and originally called Royal Square, Place de la Bourse is a location of much ambience in the historic centre of Bordeaux. Facing the Garonne River to the east, the square is lined with elegant building facades and features a monument Fountain of Three Graces. Closer to the river there is also the landmark Water Mirror from which the square can be most beautifully viewed. Given its proximity to many important sightseeing stops in Bordeaux, Place de la Bourse is quite convenient to visit by foot while exploring the city centre.

Place de la Bourse is the popular square located on the Garonne River and facing the famous Water Mirror. It’s a magnificent square, surrounded by grand, 18th century buildings, including the Hôtel des Fermes, the Hôtel de la Bourse the central pavilion. Together they form two perfect wings that frame the square.
We were hoping to get the classic Bordeaux photo of the Place de La Bourse buildings reflected in the Water Mirror. However it was an overcast day and a steady breeze sent ripples across the surface of the water so we missed out on this. I think you need a sunny day and no wind.
There are two other points of interest at the sqaure.
i) The first is the ornate, 19th century fountain which is the centrepiece of the square. Cherubs circle the base and 3 barely-robed, bronze females stand at the top. These are the daughters of the Greek god, Zeus - Aglaé, Euphrosyne and Thalie. Each of them bestowed a special gift on mankind. Aglaé brought charm and elegance, Euphrosyne bestowed joy and happiness and Thalie brought youth and beauty.
ii) The other is the strange little figures known as mascarons. These odd faces that appear above the windows and doors of the squares buildings are characteristic symbols of the city. What’s really interesting is that they are not all the same. There are female and male characters. They have different expressions, and different hairstyles and headwear. We saw some grotesque, gargoyle-like faces and others that looked like ancient gods. There was a Turkish man wearing a large turban, and an African face (a reminder of Bordeaux’s slave trade history). Some smiled pleasantly down at you, while others were open-mouthed as if yelling. Some glared fiercely down and others looked off to the side and into the distance. Altogether, there are something like 80+ faces but if you don’t know they are there, then they are easily missed.

This has a genuine “Wow” factor. The buildings are glorious, and the mirror pool is a stunning modern addition. It is wonderful to see so many people having fun here!

Does anyone know an approximate date for when the water is turned on?
كُتب بتاريخ 29 أكتوبر 2016
Just Google it:
Hours
The water mirror runs daily from 10h to 22h,
in the following cycle: 3 minutes filling 15 minutes of mirror, drain 5 minutes and 3 minutes from fog.

I would like to know if the building is used as government offices and maybe some section is a palace and museum.
كُتب بتاريخ 20 أبريل 2016
Yes, the building on the left is a Free museum (Musée des Douanes), the building on the right is a government office, and the center one was the USA ambassade, but for now (for 8 years exactly) that's a restaurant, you have a bar on grounfloor, a traditional Restaurant on first step and a gastronomic Restaurant on second step. Hope I have answered all your questions ! ☺️

How do I get there from the cruise ship port?
كُتب بتاريخ 20 أغسطس 2015
It mostly depend of the ship.
The "smaller" ships (less than 50m high and 250m long) are often anchored in the heart of the city, and going to the various landmarks are not an issue.
The schedule for the raising bridge list the ships that will go under it : if yours is in the list, then it will be anchored in the center of the city.
Unfortunately, I am unable to give you the link to the list. Try to google "pont-chaban-delmas-previsions-de-fermetures-a-la-circulation" in order to get to the official page on the bordeaux-metropole website.
If your ship is not on the list, then it means that it will be anchored further away. Contact your cruise operator for the details, he probably already planned a bus for going to the inner city.

We've been in Bordeaux for 3 days & the water feature hasn't been in operation. Does anyone know why it hasn't been working?
كُتب بتاريخ 6 أبريل 2015
It's stopped during the winter monthes for maintenance (and probably in order to avoid icing of the system)
