The art was beautifully displayed, the lighting was appropriately dim and centered the eye upon the art so as to highlight it. The two floors seemed just the right amount of space to showcase the pieces.
Featured prominently are the artists of the "School of Pont Aven" but everything else was equally fantastic. For us, looking at the local scenes really put us "in the moment" when the subjects were pursuing their daily activities.
Breton's women wear their black dresses and little caps unless they are at hard labor. We see them working.
Just to view the paintings and get a sense for the rigors of life and the tribulations of the sea cannot help but hold the viewer in awe of how hard life was.
A very huge canvas depicts Paul Gaugin in a "Last Supper" setting. This is entitled "Homage to Gaugin" and was done by Pierre Girieud. The native nudes and non-traditional characters still feature Paul G. in the center.
This is an absolutely wonderful art museum. If time permitted, I could have spent several hours here, reading the text by each canvas and admiring the artists' visions.

Déçu de ne pas trouver plus d'œuvres de Gaugin. -1 seule peinture- et même pas de copies pour illustrer son histoire.
Quant au film sur les peintres de Pont Aven, il aurait mérité d'être au début de la visite.
Dommage.

Belle exposition mais personnels à l 'entrée pas très accueillants et pas très polis. Ça doit être à la tête du client certainement à la lecture des autres commentaires !

Belle exposition... découverte de la Bretagne au travers de belles œuvres. Dommage que les visiteurs parlent à haute voix... ça manque de calme

Musée de conception moderne donc trés agréable à visiter - personnel attentionné - il faut savoir que les collections offrent des oeuvres peu connues et il ne faut pas espérer voir les peintres de Pont Aven. mérite le détour néanmoins

Lovely museum, went to see an exhibition of Breton art. Great gift shop too where you can buy posters of current exhibition as well as previous posters (a steal at 1 euro each!)

Ce musée au coeur de Pont-Aven est un incontournable. Le bâtiment est moderne et très accueillant. Nous avons profité de la salle dédiée aux enfants pendant un long moment (puzzles, dessins, jeux...) tout à fait adaptée aux plus petits. Il y a également des activités pour les enfants dans les salles d'expo temporaire. Toute la famille passe un excellent moment à la découverte du patrimoine artistique local.

Au centre de la petite ville, ce jolie musée, bien agencé, mérite une visite, même si les collections s'avèrent quelquefois inégales.
Le nom de Gauguin est associé au musée bien qu'il ne contienne qu'un seule oeuvre du peintre. Par contre, les lieux recèlent un nombre important de toiles de "l'école" qui s'y installa fin du 19e, toutefois peu d'artistes très connus à part Emile Bernard ou Paul Sérusier. De nombreux peintres américains fréquentèrent le village.
En dehors de l'exposition permanente, parfois dégarnie, on peut voir des rétrospectives temporaires comme celle consacrée à Jean Puis en ce moment.
Un ascenceur permet aux personnes handicapées de parcourir les étages sans problème. Bravo !

What an amazing museum. I did not know a lot about the group of artists that found inspiration in Pont-Aven. The museum does a great job educating the visitor and the collection is well described. Located in the heart of Pont-Aven it is easily found and should be the first place you visit upon arrival in the city.

Pas beaucoup: 5 oeuvres de Gauguin mais beaucoup de peintres de la même école contemporaine. très intéresssant.
