Possibly nothing will convince you faster that monarchy is not a sustainable form of government more than a trip to Versailles, the Trianons, and the little "country" outpost that Marie Antoinette created so that she could enjoy a facsimile of rural life. The Trianons are lovely and less mobbed than the Versailles main palace, thankfully. Keep in mind that the entire grounds -- the gardens, palaces, trianons, and le hameau are expansive-- you will walk miles to see it all, or you can pay extra (of course) to take a little tram from place to place. Bring some snack bars and some water, especially if you have kids with you; there are a few little cafes here and there, but the ones at the palace are crowded and don't offer much, and the surrounding town is another walk away.

The hamlet is extremely charming, and walking around has been a pleasure we will reconsider doing again.
The lake is the best part, but going around the farm was nice too.

It may have been fabulous, but we will never know. Because we had tickets for Trianon and not the main palace at Versailles, we first had to search for the correct gate. We could not pick up the shuttle train, because there were no stops where we were. We got as far as the end of the road where we could choose a palace when we ran out of steam. What we found is that Trianon is designed to be in addition to the main palace. There is transportation ... from the main palace. The gate to the main palace is a short walk from the train. The Queen's gate where you enter the palace complex to start your walk to Trianon is not. Trianon is only available a few days of the week.

Beautiful so worth it . Catch the hop on hop off train . Buy the train tickets in the garden grounds green shed yellow sign . Can easily spend the day here. We bought passport tickets so all included bar the train . We also had a guided tour through the palace which was ok through the HeadOut app .

We really enjoyed our time visiting the houses and gardens of Trianon. It had fewer tourists than the Palace of Versailles, making it a pleasant experience. We walked from the Versailles Palace gardens to Trianon, but you can also get the regular Little Train. Would recommend this over the Palace, but really you should see both!

We had one day to see Versailles and opted to visit the gardens and Petit Trianon and were happy with our choice. Even so our watches showed we each had over 15000 steps but worth it as it was a cool day and not too hot to walk. We walked the gardens which are beautiful and overwhelming. It is best to read about who designed and the purpose for each garden outdoor room to appreciate. We were able to see a water display with music then walked to our car and parked closer to the Petit Trianon parking which I would recommend. Petit Trianon was on my bucket list and I loved visiting the personal playground of Marie Antoinette. Since she was Austrian she even recreated an area that reminded me of Alpine caves grottos and waterfalls. All for one person. Totally understand why there was a revolution but interesting to see.

After the hustle and bustle at the castle, we breathe in the alleys leading to the Trianons and the Hameau. Entrance through the Queen's Gate with the two-day pass.
The Petit Trianon, a royal jewel, captivates us. Its gardens are in bloom. It's simply magnificent. We understand Marie-Antoinette's choice better because it is a real and sumptuous setting, away from the castle. The bucolic Hameau is just as attractive.
At the Grand Trianon, a magnificent exhibition “Imperial Silks for Versailles” enchants us.
Do not miss.

Very nice continuous visit to the castle. Worth the detour. To do absolutely. The Queen's Hamlet is simply magical.

The palace was so crowded we didn’t go in, instead went to see Marie Antoinette’s hamlet. It was a long walk from the main palace, so on the way back we waited for the little bus to take us back. The hamlet, consisting of charming grounds and picturesque buildings was worth the trip from Paris, and made our day. Not to be missed.

Visited the Trianons after the main palace and gardens. It's accessible via a small 'train' which is super convinient and cuts out the long walking time.
The Trianons are lovely, so quiet compared to the palace, and arguably just as beautiful! The Grand Trianon is very small and can be done quickly, but (ironically) the Petit Trianon has a lot more to look at and seems bigger.
Obviously this is because the Petit Trianon has the Queen's Hamlet, which is a 10min walk from the house through some gardens. Going through these little gardens, it seems there's more to look at than the huge palace gardens, and in my opinion they were prettier.
The Queen's Hamlet is cute, it reminded me of an English farm. Like Marie's bedroom, it was crazy standing there to think that she had once stood there too.
My only problem is that the Trianons are logically last in the day of sightseeing (beginning at the palace, going through the gardens, then ending here). There's a lot of walking involved, and in summer heat this can be exhausting. By the time we hit the Trianons we couldn't bare to explore their gardens in full detail due to tiredness, so we saw the important parts and left.
If you've hired one of the golf carts to travel in, you cannot take them into the Trianons, so be prepared to walk their gardens. You can get the train from the Trianons back to the entrance of Versailles itself though, which is a huge help to tired feet!
Overall I loved the Trianons, but if I was staying more than one day, I might've saved them to do on a day of their own - to explore in more detail. Also, they both have a gift shop of their own and facilities, which is nice.

The Versailles website says The Petite Trianon opens at 12:00, does this include the gardens and hameau or can you tour these areas before 12:00?

I don't know exactly because the Trianon is a separate building. But I would say the gardens are open as long the Versailles gardens are open. So all day long till late evening.

Hello,
You can rent the golf cart on the North terrace. The terrace is located behind the chateaux, on the garden side. You will also need a valid drivers license -- US works and it costs 32 euros an hour.

Walking to the Trainon takes from 20 to 30 minutes, and all the way to the Hamlet around 40 to 45 minutes. You can also take a small train or hire an electric cart and drive up to the Trianon.
