A nice 18th c. church with a baroque interior and 3 gothic altarpieces. Includes an unusual 3D carved last supper scene.

We lingered for a while to read all of the information in this complex historic and religious display. It is quite a museum set in this little chapel.

Petite église qui mérite d'être visitée, même si elle n'est pas très spectaculaire de l'extérieur.
Mon regret est qu'il n'y ait pas davantage d'informations détaillées disponibles sur les panneaux explicatifs.
Les gisants présents mériteraient certainement quelques explications, de même que les cérémonies qui se sont déroulées là.
J'ai eu l'impression que le visiteur est livré à lui-même : la personne à l'accueil ne semble être là que pour "surveiller", ne connait absolument pas les lieux et ne peut donc répondre à aucune question.
C'est vraiment dommage et frustrant.

The 'Eglise des Cordeliers' is next to the Ducal Palace and part of the 'Musée Lorrain'. It was all we could visit in corona-times. The rather small Gothic church is not much of an attraction for aesthetical reasons, unless there is a special interest in funerary monuments, but more for its historical connections.
It was Duke Rene II, whose statue is at the Place St.Epvre, who gave the orders for the construction of this church as a future burial place for the dukes of Lorraine. At the same time it was meant to be a chapel for the order of Minor Friars of the Observance, a branch of the Franciscans, generally known as 'Cordeliers' for their rope belt, who were probably supposed here to do the necessary prayers for the ducal family. This all happened after Duke René II - with the help of Swiss mercenaries - in 1477 defeated the invading army of Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy.
Later a chapel in Italian baroque style was added by the choir as a burial place of ancestors of the House of Habsburg-Lothringen, after Archduchess Maria-Theresia, later Empress, had married Duke Franz Stephan of Lorraine in 1736. There are several stone sarcophagi in there, colored black, just as the engaged columns on the sides.

This was a big surprise. We expected a simple old church but instead found a treasure trove of the nobility who ruled this area, many graves and good explanations of who these people were. Some very rare church art as well.

Petite église, un peu cachée dans Nancy qui abrite les tombeaux des ducs de Lorraine. Une église extrêmement intéressante à visiter. Petite certes mais belle.

This church summarizes much of Nancy's history very well. It is worth a visit to see another style of architecture as well as to find out about the influential people of the town's history.

Un bout d’histoire de la ville . Sympathique et gratuit . Il y a pas de mal de chose à voir et la scénographie est bien penser pour les ajouts d’explications et les miroirs pour mieux voir les plafonds

Magnifique exposition. Pièces bien mises en valeur. Parfaite luminosité. J'ai beaucoup aimé. Je recommande cet endroit extrêmement bien placé dans le cadre de la découverte de la ville de Nancy.
