Een van de prachtige poorten van Nancy. Er zijn er meerdere, vrijwel allemaal nog in goede staat. Deze is dichtbij een interessante buurt.

L'une des huit portes de la ville. A la regarder, elle n'avait pas l'air d'une porte comme les autres et bah c'est pas faux car elle est aussi une prison.

und ein würdiger Abschluss der Straße, bevor es in den neueren Teil der Stadt geht. Lohnt in jedem Fall, dass man es sich von allen Seiten ansieht und dieses seltene Spektakel genießt.

Beautiful and huge gateway into the Old City. Great views through the gate into the cafés and bars lining the street on the way in as the vieille ville opens up with amazing buildings, beautiful gardens and quaint streets.

Très bel édifice qui nous rappelle un passé architectural de qualité et encore bien conservé ! on y passe et repasse.

Remise en état, cette porte mérite d'être vue ! D'autant plus que le restaurant "Le Vestiaire", que je recommande, est à côté.
C'est l'entrée vers le vieux Nancy, qui mérite vraiment le détour.

En découvrant cette porte, on ne peut qu'imaginer les ramparts (disparus) qui entouraient la vieille ville de Nancy.
Quel contraste entre cette porte monumentale assez austère et l'animation de la grande rue !

This looks like a medieval castle, but really is an entrance to the old city. It is very impressive and rises above the streets leading to it.

Of all the eight still existing gates in Nancy the Porte de la Craffe, facing north, is not only the oldest, but also the most different. While the others are mostly in an 18th century neoclassical style, this one has a more medieval character. Going back to the 14th century several changes have taken place though afterwards.
The main feature are the two towers on the sides of the gate with conical roofs. Above the entrance are impressive machicolations with a Cross of Lorraine underneath. The gate, although wide enough, seems to be closed for car traffic, as I could observe, while sitting at the Bistrot Barami in front of the inner side of the gate.
