ein kleiner Platz zur Erinnerung an die Allianz zwischen Österreich/Ungarn und Frankreich. Mittig befindet sich ein interessanter Brunnen, der an den römischen Brunnen "Vier Flüsse" erinnern soll. Dargestellt sind die Flüsse Rhein, Schelde, Maas als alte bärtige Männer. Der Platz ist umsäumt von in Form geschnittenen Lindenbäumen vor den gepflegten Stadtpalais. This is a fairly large open square that is the major feature of its neighborhood. We passed through it as we did our walking tour.

Of the three squares in Nancy that are inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites the Place d'Alliance is the smallest and least spectacular of them, but it is also the most intimate and a quiet spot to come and sit on one of the benches, relaxing from all the sightseeing. Rather uniform neoclassical houses of same height surround a double row of linden trees, pruned into a rectangular shape.
In the middle is a baroque fountain by Paul-Louis Cyfflé, born 1726 in Bruges. Very obviously the sculptor had been inspired by the baroque 'Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi' on Rome's Piazza Navona, a work by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The fountain is dedicated - as the whole square - to the alliance treaty of 1756 between France and Austria-Hungary.
At the center of the fountain is a massive rock with three old men sitting on it, representing Lorraine's three most important rivers (Moselle, Meurthe, Meuse). On their shoulders is a platform with cornucopias and an obelisk, crowned by a winged genie, holding a shield and blowing into a trumpet.

Pour une des places nancéennes classées par L'UNESCO.... hormis la fontaine trônant en son centre et les majestueux tilleuls l'encerclant...rien d'extraordinaire!!!

C'est une place bien cachée qui mérite qu'on s'y arrête pour se rafraichir un peu autour de cette fontaine de Cyfflé. La place est entourée de superbes hôtels particuliers. Elle mérite qu'on s'y attarde tant par l'environnement architectural que pour la quiétude qu'elle dégage

qu'il est dommage que cette magnifique place ne soit pas davantage mise en valeur, afin de redonner du cachet et surtout essayer d'en supprimer les voitures stationnées comme des ventouses.

Toujours à portée d'une mini flèche de la place Stan, donc incontournable.
Par contre attendez que les arbres retrouvent leurs feuilles pour apprécier la vrai quiétude de cette place.

Ничего выдающегося, возможно только скульптура. Зимой превращается в ярмарочную площадь. Строгие формы. Гуляя по центру можно и посетить.

This intimate square has a lovely symmetry, a beautiful fountain by Cyfflé, a double row of linden trees, some of which are still the original trees planted in 1763, and it is very peaceful.
