‪I had the wonderful experience of attending Jean Marc’s cooking school with a family from New York. The food we make was absolutely delicious and it was so lovely to dine out in the beautiful garden with Jean Marc and his sweet wife. I highly recommend this cooking school, you will truly get a taste of Provence, it’s food, and it’s beauty ! Thank you to Jean Marc and your beautiful, welcoming wife !!‬

‪A day with Jean Marc is an immersion into fun, food, and education. From the shopping to the food prep and the orchestration of the whole meal, it is all steeped in education about techniques, skills and presentation. Don’t expect to come and watch like you might at another cooking class. Jean Marc and Alice meet you with an apron and a sheaf of instructions, and, voila, you’re at work in the kitchen under his eagle eyes. Bring like- minded friends and you will have an unforgettable day!‬

‪TRULY A HIGHLIGHT. One word describes Jean-Marc’s cooking class: magical. I do a fair amount of cooking, and I’ve been to France multiple times. The one thing I avoid like the plague are touristy venues, cliché experiences and stale, uncreative opportunities that seem to only be offered for the purpose of profit.

Jean-Marc’s class is everything BUT. I don’t really like to call it a class because for me it was like an exquisite special occasion celebration with longtime friends. Jean-Marc and Alice have a beautiful home, an oasis with a wonderful garden and outdoor patio. They are charming and endearing hosts. You almost feel guilty that Jean-Marc is having to relegate his exceptional culinary career to our simple, untrained and uneducated background in “cooking.” But you would never know this, and I get the impression he really enjoys himself.

It’s not just how wonderful his menus are, the quality of the food (produce from the nearby farms and fish pulled out of the Mediterrean, the ease he gives instructions and allows everyone to participate, but even more both Jean-Marc and Alice make the day truly pleasurable.

They start by serving coffee and homemade “petit gateau” upon arrival, and by mid morning they’re opening bottles of wine. I can still taste the soft, freshly made olive bread Alice bought at the boulangerie that morning. I never drink white wine but I can still savor the bottle they served from a local winery.

You almost don’t want to finally sit down to eat because you realize that after the meal is over, it’s time to leave. It is like a family reunion that starts Thanksgiving morning and doesn’t wrap up until late in the evening where everyone is working together, cooking, eating and drinking the most high quality ingredients and beverages you can ever taste, all day long.‬

‪Our family of four had a delightful experience cooking with Chef Jean-Marc in Provence. My husband never cooks and my daughter (21) and son (17) are not regular cooks but all were open to a new experience. I sold the idea as a wonderful way to engage the culture and to enjoy a common class as a family. Jean-Marc and his lovely wife Alice were delightful. Our whole family were immediately charmed by their warm hospitality in the lovely outdoor garden dining table. We enjoyed a coffee and a sweet and lovely conversation. Jean Marc explained the planned menu and we were off to the local coop for fresh produce and locally-sourced meats.

Cooking class was hands-on and practical. All of our senses were engaged… touch, smell, sight, taste and hearing. My son, who has a low tolerance for museum visits, was fully engaged in this experience. There was much laughter. Jean Marc and Alice are warm conversationalists as well as experts in their work.

Our menu was delicious, specific to Provence and practical. We roasted peppers, made fish, lovely deserts with apricot compote.

My husband and kids had a wonderful time and we would definitely sign up again if ever in the area. This cooking class was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip to France.‬

‪We spent a wonderful day with Chef Jean-Marc and his wife Alice. After a great cup of coffee, we visited a coop where we purchased fresh seasonal vegetables, fruit and fish for our cooking lessons.

Jean-Marc then lead us through a well planned and thought out cooking lesson. It was a hands-on experience and a lot of fun. We learned how to organize and execute a four course meal (much like in a gastronomic restaurant) and learned valuable techniques and tricks of the trade from Chef. He has a wonderful sense of humor and an easy going style - it's so easy to develop a rapport with him.

His wife Alice, was also a wonderful host and kept us plied with good wine and delicious bites while we prepared the meal.

It was amazing how the meal turned out - visually pleasing and tasted delicious!

Finally, we all sat down to a wonderful meal that we had cooked - accompanied by equally delicious wines that Chef expertly paired.

A memorable and wonderful experience which my family highly, highly recommend!‬

‪We came to the cooking class with Jean Marc in September to celebrate our engagement and birthday.
We were 6 people in the group .It was a great gastronomical experience because we went to buy all the ingredients, cooked and got a lot of important culinary advice. Everything tasted so gooooddd!!

‪Das haben wir (zwei Paare) letzte Woche im Kochkurs mit Jean-Marc Villard und seiner Frau Alice erlebt. In ihrer schönen Umgebung wurden wir morgens herzlich empfangen und gingen dann gemeinsam für das Essen einkaufen.
Die interessanten und praxisnahen Erklärungen zu den Lebensmitteln und ihren Erzeugern waren ein sehr guter Einstieg.
Dann war es Zeit für den praktischen Teil in der perfekt ausgestatteten Küche. Unter souveräner Anleitung bereiteten wir ein völlig frisches 3-Gänge-Menü zu, das sich mühelos anfühlte.
Alles war so kompetent vorbereitet und geplant, dass wir uns voll und ganz auf das Kochen und die vielen Fragen, Tipps und Tricks währenddessen konzentrieren konnten. So kam nie Hektik auf und der praktische Teil war trotz komplexer Rezepte und vieler Einzelaufgaben, die es zu erledigen galt, ein sehr entspanntes Erlebnis.
Ein perfekter Unterricht, der uns allen wieder Lust aufs Kochen gemacht hat.
Das Mittagessen wurde gemeinsam auf der gemütlichen Terrasse in wunderschöner Umgebung und mit anregenden Gesprächen genossen.
Vielen Dank, Alice und Jean-Marc, für eure Gastfreundschaft, einen intensiven Tag und viele schöne Erinnerungen!‬

‪Jean Marc Villard and his beautiful wife provided us a tour of a market where we picked out foods to cook. Then we proceeded to his home for a wonderful french cooking experience. We learned how to plate up the foods we prepared. If you are looking for a great experience, we recommend you contact him for a cooking experience. ‬

‪My daughter loves to cook as much as I do, so we thought it would be fun to take a class together on our recent visit to Provence. We were excited to find Jean-Marc not far from where we were staying at Chateau Taloud. The fact he taught at the Paul Bocuse Institute in Lyon for 10 years before starting his own cooking school was certainly a plus.

This is an all day class that starts at 8am and ends around 3pm. The “hands-on” cooking class is at Jean-Marc’s home. He teaches his classes in English which, for us, was so much better than worrying about the nuances of translating ingredients and actions.

The day begins with coffee, something sweet right out of the oven, and a few minutes to chat with Alice, Jean-Marc’s wife, and the other participants. Alice was so very kind and hospitable to us throughout the day.

This is truly a “farm to table” culinary experience. First up was a trip to the co-op to select items for the menu. Our trip to the market was made even better by Jean-Marc knowing each farmer personally. The quality of the produce, fish, and meat was superior. We learned about each item he selected, why he selected it, and what role it would play in the meal we would be preparing. Jean-Marc is quite happy to share insights and tips from his many years of experience. You even have a few minutes to make personal purchases if you like.

Preparing several dishes is a lesson in timing, and you will come away with a newfound respect for what transpires in the kitchen the next time you visit your favorite local restaurant. There were 4 people in our class, so each of us had plenty to do. Taking videos and photos during your class will help jog your memory later when you are back home and want to re-create the items on his menu.

We enjoyed what we prepared outside overlooking the garden on an absolutely gorgeous Provence day, complete with local wines from the area. It doesn’t get any better than that. My daughter and I both agreed that we would take another class with Jean-Marc the next time we were in Provence without hesitation. The day with Jean-Marc and Alice was interesting, informative, and a lot of fun. Don’t miss this unique opportunity if you find yourself nearby!‬

‪We had a wonderful time with Jean Marc and Alice. The cooking lesson was enjoyed by all our group of 14 people, and lunch in the terrace accompanied by a tasting of tegional wines, was excellent. We loved the food and learned how to prepare these dishes at our own home. We thoroughly recommend this experience in the Provence.‬
