you can get there by train and have plenty of time to visit both castles and the small town. I prepaid a tour which was great as it is a long ride and you don´t have to worry about stops. We had a great guide that explained where to find the best items in the small town, where and what to eat, he also talked about the history of the royal family and both castles as we walked up to neuschwanistein (a bit of a hike) but they also have horses or cars to get there. The castle sells specific entry times as the tours inside the castle are strictly guided so it was nice that the time depended on someone else to get us there on time, he also explained how to get to the bridge which is where you have the most amazing views of the castle (that´s anothe hike) Either decision that you take, be prepared for a workout! Hope you have an amazing time, it is so beautiful you will not want to leave!

Hi, I wouldn't bother with a locker. As you go through the gated entrance, the security guards search visitor's bags - they then ask you to leave your bag in the locker - there are loads of lockers in a room near the information office. Think it was 1 or 2 euros. But on the tour, loads of people had their backpacks with them and they were asked to carry them at leg height and not to wear them on their backs. Once you have finished the tour, you come out of a back entrance and you have to walk around and up the hill again to collect your bag!!

Definitely go inside you have to see the history to believe it

Hi the bridge was open when we were there but it was a cloudy day so didn't get the classic view we were hoping for. The construction is only on the outside but it does block the front. Still worth the visit though and go inside as well

Be sure to book your tickets in advance. Then when you get to the ticket office you will have a short pick up counter line instead of the long ticket line. Also there is a change that its so busy you cant get a ticket so book before. I would book both castles it worth it for the history and the price is not bad at all. Do the bus between the castles to get there but if you wanted to walk the trail is not bad. We bussed up but walked back.
