The artists' colony on Matilda Hill was included in the UNESCO list 2 years ago. Looking at this green-covered hill, you will not immediately see 23 objects that have become the World Heritage of Mankind. Of course, it is not difficult to see the Wedding Tower and the Exhibition Hall of Joseph Olbrich, erected in 1908, and the Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalene, reflected in the lily pool created by Albin Muller in 1914. But all the other objects hid in the trees on the right. These are Sycamore Grove (1833, 1904-1914), ), Gottfried Schwab Memorial (1905), Pergola and Garden (1914), Garden Pavilion "Swan Temple" (1914), Ernst Ludwig Fountain and 13 houses and workshops of artists. This was the idea of the last Duke of Hesse, Ernst Ludwig, to invite the leading intelligentsia to raise his duchy, which entered the German Empire in 1871. The idea is not new. So the Netherlands rose due to the immigration of the persecuted Jews of Spain and Portugal in the XV-XVI centuries, or Prussia at the expense of the French Huguenots in the XVII century. However, no one expelled the seven modernist artists. The aim of the artists was to design modern housing. A little later, the German Bauhaus, Corbusier and Soviet constructivism will do this. However, of the seven, only Josef Olbrich had an architect's diploma. Self-taught architects presented their projects at exhibitions here. Due to the uneven composition of the participants, exhibitions sometimes ended in failure. The first stage consisted of 9 houses . Two of the nine houses of the first stage were completely destroyed on the night of September 11-12, 1944, when 226 Lancasters of the Royal Air Force burned down the entire city center, while not destroying the chemical plants declared the target of the bombing. After the war, both houses were not restored. The damaged houses of Peter Behrens, Josef Olbrich and Ludwig Habich were rebuilt in 1951-1952. Their interior is irretrievably lost. Thus, only 4 houses were preserved. We arrived at half past five, so we didn't get anywhere, limiting ourselves to an external inspection.

Ein total spannender Stadtteil, der sich fast ausschließlich dem Jugendstil widmet. Allerdings im Sommer oder Frühjahr eher zu empfehlen, denn die Sehenswürdigkeiten sind meist Outdoor. Kritikfähig war, dass es einen Lage Plan nur auf Englisch gab. Dem Zeitgeist geschuldet, dass die Deutschen, die Geldgeber, zu vernachlässigen sind☹️

I did not find the parking situation to my liking: not great options nearby. You either walk too far or pay toouch. If this sorted, the viewing can be more enjoyable.

Fangen wir mal an:
Wir gehen auf die Webseite, bereiten einen Trip vor und suchen uns eine Parkplatz raus, der als erster auf der Webseite aufgeführt ist.
Wir kommen an und? Na toll, was soll der Unsinn? Ein emfpohlener Parkplatz mit 4 Stunden Höchstparkdauer. 30 min. Fußweg und und zurück mach 3 Stunden Besuchzeit. Wenn wollen die den Verarschen. Also weiter gesucht. Parkplatz gegenüber 2 Stunden.... und als nicht Ortskundiger ist das der Moment wo Du schon das erste mal genervt bist. Dann doch ein Parkhaus gefunden. Gut nicht billig 15€ am Tag. Aber das ist halt so. Ist OK. Raus aus dem Parkhaus und wo geht es jetzt lang?
Beschilderung findet keine statt. Sogar direkt am Aufgang am Ledigenhaus kein Schild zu finden, dass einem als Fußgänger weiter geleitet hätte.
Rennt ja nicht jeder mit dem Smartphone im Anschlag durch die Stadt.
Endlich oben angekommen. Riesen Baustelle, das wußten wir, aber wie kommen wir nun zur Info oder ggf. zu Toiletten.
Beschilderungen schenen in DA ein Fremdwort zu sein.
Beispiel Plantantenhain: Wenigstens am Eingang mal ein paar Erläuterungen. Was die Intentionen waren, warum hier indische und arabische Mythonlogie genutzt wurde.
Und so geht das irgendwie als weiter. Die einzige offene Ausstellung in der Künstlerkolonie hat eine Sonderausstellung im Keller. Wären wir nicht mal auf Toilette gegangen hätten wir die Bilderausstellung, die sehr interessant war, komplett verpaßt.
Ein paar Hinwe... ach lassen wir es... scheint in DA niemand zu interessieren ob die Leute dort hin kommen oder nicht.

Il sito (ci riferiamo a tutto il complesso) é stata una piacevole sorpresa, più suggestivo di quello che appare nelle foto. Oltre alle strutture principali da non perdere le case nei pressi che gli artisti della colonia si erano fatti costruire. Se interessati ad approfondire l'argomento, dovrebbero esserci visite guidate in inglese almeno una volta a settimana.

Je me suis rendu à Darmstadt dans le cadre des villes art nouveau. Grosse déception, musée hors de prix pour ce qu'on y présente. Heureusement que la ville contient un autre bijou architecturale contemporain et époustouflant le Waldspirale.

cette colline située à quelques arrêts de bu du centre ville est entièrement consacrée à l art nouveau. le résultat est spectaculaire : église russe, musée, jardin et villas constituent un exceptionnel site art nouveau.

Das gesamte Areal ist sehr schön. Leider wird die Ausstellungshalle renoviert (Stand 12/21). Parken ist weitgehend unmöglich. Entlang der Straße für 5€ 30 min Max 1h 10€

Ganz nett, gerade die russische Kapelle ist ein Hingucker. doch richtig gut wird es erst wenn die Renovierungsarbeiten angeschlossen sind.

I guess the dates for 2018 are not out yet, but you should be able to make plans according to the 2017 opening times around holidays. Prices will most likely be accordingly.
Do visit the museum. It has all the Jugendstil items you ever wanted to see-really worth the money if you are interested. But also walk around the area a bit and have a look at the Jugendstil houses. There are not many places like this.
