Das "Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum", kurz HAUM bietet eine umfangreiche Gemälde-Sammlung u.a. deutscher, niederländischer und italienischer Künstler.
Daneben sind aber auch die Ausstellung der "Silbermöbel der Welfen" und die Skulpturen-Ausstellung sehenswert.
Aktuell gibt es noch eine Sonderausstellung über den Maler Max Beckmann zu sehen.
Angesichts des Umfanges ist viel Zeit mitzubringen oder ein mehrfacher Besuch anzuraten.
Daneben sind aber auch die Ausstellung der "Silbermöbel der Welfen" und die Skulpturen-Ausstellung sehenswert.
Aktuell gibt es noch eine Sonderausstellung über den Maler Max Beckmann zu sehen.
Angesichts des Umfanges ist viel Zeit mitzubringen oder ein mehrfacher Besuch anzuraten.

Leider bekamen (nicht nur wir) keinen Tisch, obwohl es mehrere freie Tische gab, die alle reserviert waren. Eine größere Gesellschaft nahm fast die Hälfte der Plätze im Café ein. Ein Museums-Café aber ist m. E. kein idealer Ort für größere Feierlichkeiten, die Stunden dauern. Dafür gibt es zahlreiche andere Orte in der Stadt. Und für ein Museums-Café ist auch das Reservierungssystem keine gute Idee. Es entstehen Leerzeiten bis zu einer halben Stunde an den reservierten Tischen, und die Museumsbesucher dürfen trotzdem nicht Platz nehmen, obgleich sie vielleicht gar nicht so lange im Café bleiben würden. Es wäre viel besser, auf Reservierungen zu verzichten. Dann würden die Gäste mehr fluktuieren. Und wenn tatsächlich einmal alle Tische besetzt wären, würde das bei den abgewiesenen Besuchern keine Frustration erzeugen.

A splendid collection of classic art with works of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Rubens etc. Actually one doesn't expect to find sich a fine collection in Brunswick. My warmest recommendation for every art lover. I'll absolutely go there in warmer season.

Das Museum ist sehr sehenswert. Es gibt eine sehr schöne Gemäldegalerie, in der italienische, flämische, französische und deutsche Malerei, hauptsächlich aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert ausgestellt wird. Im 2. OG gibt es eine Skulpturenausstellung die ebenfalls sehr sehenswert ist. Wir haben ca. 3 Stunden im Museum verbracht. Da Kunst bekanntlich Hunger macht, kann man im Museumscafé etwas essen und trinken.

I have visited this museum back in 2013. In fact my review for this attraction is the first one here as I was the one to request this entry. At the time the museum was under renovation and they temporarily displayed a couple of dozen of their masterpieces in the city museum nearby. That included their Vermeer which is presently on tour in Dresden. But now you can see the rest of their collection. It's small but very good. Rembrandt, Lievens, Mor, Holbein, Cranach, Dou, Metsu.
Credit cards accepted on orders over 10 euros.

Great gallery with many well known artists' work. Worths a visit if you are around. Most descriptions for paintings are in German. I would like to see some more easy to read information in English.

Beautiful museum in a magnificent building. Like many visitors I wanted to see their 17th century Dutch painting collection.
Late corona pandemic times required our party of four to present our negative rapid COVID test results or immunization record. The museum was practically empty. For a small fee we were able to leave our coats and bags in a locker.
The painting gallery is amazing but not overwhelming bringing to our hearts the joy that comes from the ability to see familiar and generally well recognized pieces of art.
The new free Painting Gallery Visitor’s Guide is very helpful as it offers the commentary both in German and English. If not for that there are no other explanatory notes in English in this museum. The layout of the gallery is slightly confusing consisting of three parallel exhibits.
The sculpture gallery was closed and not available for some “corona related “ reasons.
I highly recommend Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum as one of the “must-see” highlights of Braunschweig . The proximity of this Museum to the old city and all the attractions makes it easy to include as a stop in walking tour of Braunschweig.

Collezione molto interessante con alcuni capolavori come 'La ragazza con il bicchiere di vino' di Vermeer. Il secondo piano non era accessibile non sappiamo se per riduzione del personale legato al COVID o ristrutturazione, ma il museo merita comunque una visita approfondita.

Nach langem Warten hat das Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum endlich ein Café, das wunderbar an das Museum integriert ist.
Obwohl wir nicht reserviert hatten, bekamen wir einen Tisch und bestellten beide unterschiedliche Frühstücksangebote! Das Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Es wird auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen!
Beide waren wir von unserem Frühstück sehr angetan, was aus sehr frischen und qualitativ hochwertigen Lebensmitteln wie Käse, Wurst, leckerer Konfitüre, Brot und Brötchen bestand.
Ein weiterer Besuch ist geplant!
Ich kann dieses Café und Bistro nur weiter empfehlen!

Wunderbar gelungene Renovierung und Prasentation der Kunstwerke.
Gerade auch die Masse und an einigen Stellen enge Hängung der Bilder ist wunderbar .
Ganz schlimm ist aber und eine Geringschaetzung der Besucher
Keine EC Kartenzahlung , erst ab 10 Euro,
also es geht aber die Besucher werden bevormundet und von dieser Zahlung abgehalten. Wohl Bequemlichkeit.
Das die Kasse auch verwaltet und das Bargeld bearbeitet werden muss, scheint noch nicht im Alltagswissen angekommen zu sein.
Das Cafe war unerwartet geschlossen.
Ein derart prächtige Museum braucht einen Raum wo man sich stärken kann.
Für Rentner ist keine Ermässigung vorgesehen.
Menschen die dieses Land aufgebaut haben und Steuern zahlen werden nochmal ausgebeutet.
Ich glaube Flüchtlinge kommen umsonst rein.

Just take the ICE train. 1.5 hours from Berlin main station to Braunschweig main station. 15 minutes walk from there.
