Do you want see how a striving young Dresdener became one of the world's top earning artists? Gerhard Richter's works are a highlight of the Albertinum contemporary art museum on the banks of the river Elbe. This may be one of the most under-visited sights of Dresden but for art lovers it's a real find.
Many of Germany's most renowned 19th and 20th century painters came from Saxony. Caspar David Friedrich and his famed moonlight scenes,for example, or Pechstein and the revolutionary Blaue Reiter movement.
The top floor has many of their works and a sprinkling of other leading German and French impressionists.

L'Albertinum è uno museo che contiene opere pregevoli di maestri e artisti europei, primo fra tutti Rodin, è posto sulla terrazza di Brühl, nel pieno centro storico di Dresda, ed è uno degli edifici più belli e particolari della città. La struttura originale è andata distrutta durante i bombardamenti di Dresda, come la maggior parte della città, ma è stata ricostruita nel 1953, restando fedeli allo stile originale.

Whereas the gallery at Zwinger has the so called old masters, here you can see paintings and statues of the "new masters" and in my opinion it's not any less impressive. The size of the museum is surely big but okay to do in 1 day although towards the end you definitely gained a lot of impressions. Would certainly recommend it.

Rigtig gode samlinger - bl.a. af de tidlige tyske ekspressionister - og et fremragende Gauguin billede (købt af Edvard Brandes i 1926!)
Og en sjov skulptur udstilling i stueetagen.
Boghandlen er meget gode med god spredning i udgivelser.

The Albertinum is a wonderful museum. I especially liked the Romantic paintings (Caspar Friederich among others), but they have a great collection of weimar paintings and more modern art as well. Well worth the visit.

Leuk museum met voor ieder van ons gezin wat te beleven. Persoonlijk was ik vooral fan van de afdeling 'nieuwe meesters'. Ook gezellige inkomhal waar je iets kan drinken en even verpozen.

Vacker byggnad som vi bara hade tid med att se från utsidan. Inrymmer konst-akademien. Att stanna till och kolla in denna byggnad kan rekommenderas att göras.

No centro de Dresden possui uma arquitetura arrojada e muito impressionante. O museu estava fechado quando fomos. Vale a visita.

Albertinum, museum in Dresden, Germany, displaying fine art and national treasures. It is one of several institutions associated with the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections). The Albertinum, was built on the foundations of a former armoury by Karl Adolf Canzler, who completed the construction in the year 1887. The building was destroyed in World War II but reopened in the year 1953. The Albertinum is one of several historical buildings occupying Dresden’s famous Cultural District. The museum is home to two of the state collections: Sculpture Collection and the New Masters Gallery. The Skulpturensammlung includes works from ancient Greece and Rome, as well as European carvings from antiquity to the present. A wing of the collection is devoted to Renaissance and Baroque works, and there are also Late Saxon wood carvings. The celebrated Galerie Neue Meister, which contains art from the 19th to the 21th century, has one of Germany’s most significant collections of modern and contemporary art. Works include German and other European masterpieces dating from the Renaissance to the present.
