The place is quiet and resembles more a park than a cemetary. There are many very beautiful graves decorated with sculptures, statues, monuments. There are memorials of people murdered by the Nazi regime. Also of people killed during the Allied bombing of Leipzig. Many personalities like physicians, scientists, artists or politicians (I did not know any of them, but it is my fault) rest there.
There is a huge crematorium, which looks more like a castle.
It is just next to the Battle of Leipzig memorial. Best place for walk after visiting it. It makes oné wonder, how many graves would fit for the vast amount of bodies left dead after the battle.

Très bel endroit pour croiser des oiseaux, biches, lièvres, écureuils... Cela peut déranger de visiter un cimetière, mais ici l'expression "reposer en paix" prend tout son sens. On s'y recueille différemment d'un cimetière français. Une promenade au calme sous les grands arbres.

Wonderful place, more a park rather than a cemetery, and a must-see during and after the WGT. Especially for your inner Goth, there can't be a better place to start spool down from exhibition, concert and party mode again.

Südfriedhof – ist ein Riese großer Stadtfriedhof, der als Park heutzutage dient. Die Dominante ist die Kapellenanlage in dem Krematorium Leipzig, die man schon von ferne zu sehen ist.

Wir sind wenn wir in Leipzig sind immer wieder auf diesem Friedhof, da eine Verwandte dort beigesetzt ist.
Die sehr gepflegte hat dabei Parkcharakter und wartet auch mit beeindruckenden Gebäuden und Grabmalen auf.

Simplemente maravilloso. Resulta curioso comprobar como en Alemania los cementerios, lejos de ser un lugar triste y tétrico, son como jardines, llenos de flores, cuidados en extremo, preciosos jardines por los que pasear y relajarse. Este es un claro exponente de ello, coronado por sus espectaculares edificios. Lejos del centro, pero vale la pena el desplazamiento.

ja durchaus interessant, schon mehrmals dort gewesen, (teilweise auch beruflich bedingt) Friedhofspersonal in der Verwaltung sehr freundlich

Ich liebe alte Friedhöfe. Daher versuche ich immer wieder, bei Städtetrips Friedhöfe zu besichtigen. Sehr toll angelegt. Auch die Lage zum Völkerschlachtdenkmal ist super. Man kann die Besuche sehr gut kombinieren

This is a cemetery not a tourist attraction. You get quite a lot of strange looks from the workers there when they see you strolling around 'sightseeing' as opposed to paying your respects. There is a huge building set in the middle of the grounds that has lovely architecture, pillars, steeples and towers with the rest of the areas mainly tombstones or plaques. It's not my idea of fun and there was a cremation in progress too which made me feel awkward.

Hi, I am visiting my Brothers grave next March, he was buried in Plot 22 Row F Grave 13. The photo I have of his grave shows a cross with the details of my Fathers regiment. However I was doing some research and found a photo of a stone which only shows his name and DOD, which I find really impersonal. Can you confirm that cross has been replaced with this stone?
