Interesting archaeological museum in Almería, probably the most worthwhile, and it is free. It has 3 floors, the first for the Millares, the second for the Argar, the third for the Roman and Islamic stages. It has many models and samples of remains, many are small pieces of objects, most of them from the sites discovered by the Belgian archaeologist Luis Siret in the 19th century. The descriptive texts are fine, although some interactive screens did not work. The museum has a certain modern artistic look. They tried to make it enjoyable for the general public, but perhaps they have gone too far in the interpretations of what life was like in the villages, for example one of the main installations recreates a birth with abstract human sculptures, with a woman in labor surrounded by people and even a big dog. Or the most important installation is a sloping space with a large number of pieces and human remains, which rather aims to repeat the harsh living conditions of the slaves in the very classist Argaric society, with the skeletons of slave children appearing in contrast to the weapons. , metal objects and jewels of the privileged, convincing the assistant that it was a failed society, perhaps corrected in those that followed, such as the ones best known to the Spanish of the Iberians or Celtiberians or later with the Romans. There is also no shortage of bold phrases in large characters that seem more like a personal interpretation of the symbols associated with the beliefs of these people.
Among what is missing is that there is no mention anywhere of the looting and destruction of the archaeological remains, for example in the sites of the Metal Age in the 19th century stones were used for construction, or until recently They were looted because the remains were not monitored until there began to be minimal concern, such as with the inauguration of this museum. The destruction in other places continued in recent years, a necropolis in Barranquete was destroyed due to crops, or recently the remains of the Millares were destroyed to build a roundabout. They are also common in other remains from other times, such as some Romans left in the middle of a roundabout in the West, and above all, damage to the Muslims is common, starting in the 19th century when they destroyed most of the walls and buildings. Caliphate Shipyards, or in recent years an individual placed a locked door in one of the towers of the wall, or several times they have made holes during construction, or even used them as a sewage passage.
The Roman and Islamic periods divide the third floor although the Roman era was hardly important. This floor of the museum is a little off from the first two stages. Of the Roman one, a medium-sized statue of the god Bacchus and several marble tombstones stand out, however a marble tombstone is not mentioned, which is the first known evidence of a Jewish girl born on the peninsula, Annia Salomonula from the 2nd or 3rd century. apparently poor or born a slave, especially this is evident if one compares her simple tombstone with the tombstones in the museum. It was a tombstone that a well-known 18th century historian specialized in Hebrew, Francisco Pérez Bayer, found in a hermitage in the town of Adra, and which apparently disappeared after his move to Toledo. At least a drawing remains of the tombstone, and the Jewish girl does have a lot of importance in Israel or for all Sephardic Jews.
The part dedicated to Islam is very scarce and even more so taking into account its great relevance and the founding of Almería, for example there is no mention of the importance that the Jews had in trade, in which Muslim Almería especially stood out according to evidence found a few years ago. decades in the Cairo Geniza.
The rest of the periods are little more than mentioned in some text. In any case, the museum is more for the Millares and the Argar and only for these is it worth it.

Free entrance, clean and nice restroom. Interesting exhibition about the prehistory in the local area.
Well put together mixed media installations and the building has very nice acoustics and has an architecturally interesting building plan on the inside. It is open all day. Had a nice visit alone at 20:00.

It's very nice. We stayed for an hour and we went quickly. Guided tours would be nice and they would explain everything a little to you.

Echt super. Der Eintritt ist für alle Besucher frei. Sehr sehenswert.

A bit interesting. About an hour to see it. We had to share the visit with children. Very noisy! Can’t find the way to the view no one around to supervise the floors

The 3 story column in the center of the building is a wonderful visualization of the ancient time period. The story telling brings the period to life. It's not just artifacts in glass cases.

Me encanta, todo súper bien cuidado y el recepcionista súper amable. Muy bien explicado todo y muy fino el museo. También tiene un área de conocimientos en los que puedes leer libros del tema.
