Drove here in our hire car from Playa Santiago and spent a few hours in this pleasant, laid-back place. There's a small cluster of shops and restaurants, a rocky beach with a few surfers when we were there and a nice walk along the promenade. The drive here is truly spectacular also with various viewpoints looking down the valley to the coast.

Валье-дель-Рей - впечатляющая долина в горах на Ла Гомера; внизу ярусами построены дома одноименной деревни. У подножия головокружительно крутых скал долина питает плантации деревьев папайи и авокадо. То тут, то там бугенвиллея разворачивает свои ослепительно красные или розовые цветы.

A small town where not much happens. A place for those who value peace without the crowds of tourists. A perfect starting point for hiking on mountain trails. Near the bus station to be able to explore other parts of the island, lots of places where you can rent a car. Delicious little restaurants with local food. I recommend a trip to the La Gomera Garajonay national park, similar to the original forest in Madeira but worth seeing the amazing views

La Gomera ist eine wunderschöne Insel auf den Kanaren. Es ist zwar anstrengend bis man endlich ankommt. - Es gibt keine Direktflüge! Die Wanderungen sind eigentlich immer herausfordernd - aber es hat sich absolut gelohnt!!

La station balnéaire de la Gomera. Station est toutefois un grand mot, de très jolies plages avec une petite offre de logement balnéaire en font un endroit très agréable avec de nombreux poissons dont des raies & barracuda. On se baigne dans le port, sur les plages, avec les hippies, à votre choix. Une expérience agréable pour la détente et les restaurants

Pod tą nazwą kryją się te trzy atrakcje .Z naszego pensjonatu w Las Hayas wybraliśmy się na cudowny trekking do brzegu Atlantyku przy plaży La Puntilla . Na naszej trasie było wszystko czego przysłowiowa dusza zapragnie . Najpierw przejście przez bardziej wiejskie tereny z tarasowymi uprawami i pięknymi palmami .Póżniej odkrywaliśmy bardziej surowe oblicze doliny . Skaliste i strome zbocza na przemian z niewiarygodnie bujną zielenią . Po drodze były postoje w El Cercado i La Vizina. W pierwszym przypadku mogliśmy poznać produkcję regionalnej ceramiki i odwiedzić bar Maria . W drugim miejscu z tarasu baru Bodegan mogliśmy podziwiać uroki całej doliny przy dowolnym napoju . Dalej w Los Reyes obejrzeliśmy [ niestety tylko z zewnątrz ] pustelnię/kaplicę Ermita de Los Reyes. Schodząc w dół do brzegu Atlantyku oglądaliśmy zróżnicowaną tutejszą roślinność i otaczające nas ściany wąwozu . Sam Atlantyk obejrzeliśmy na plaży La Puntilla , w miejscu gdzie stoi pomnik króla Garajonay. Kumpel zdążył się nawet wykąpać . Pogoda była również rewelacyjna więc ten ok. 6- godzinny trekking był wielką przyjemnością . Na koniec , po rozejrzeniu się po Valle Gran Rey była jeszcze udana kolacja . Powrót odbył się już zamówionym minibusem .

Un auténtico paraíso en La Gomera,lo tiene todo ,unas vistas y paisajes impresionantes,cascada de agua, palmeras,ñameras, cañaverales,playas, alojamientos turísticos la mayoría de gente del pueblo, siempre que puedo voy como mínimo una semana,y sobre todo la paz y la tranquilidad que se respira.

Als Nichtdeutscher, ziemlich ätzend dieser Ort wo jeder Seinesgleiche sucht. Bestes Beispiel: Hamburgerbeiz mit Fettpommes rappelvoll von Veganfans und nebenan, beste lokale Küche, leer. Es wird halt Spanisch gesprochen. Klar wo ich esse.
Das Gute, jede Seele die hier happy ist, läuft mir in den Bergen nicht über den Weg.

Je découvre l’île de La Gomera pour la première fois. J’ai choisi de rester à Valle Gran Rey pour sa situation ensoleillée au bord de mer. J’y ai découvert une grande majorité d’allemands dont la moyenne d’âge est de 65 ans. J’aurais aimé rencontrer des gens plus jeunes et d’autres nationalités, parlant anglais.
L’île sert de centre pour retraités allemands et de sanatorium pour allemands déprimés ou ayant des problèmes psychologiques.
Également, beaucoup de vagabonds, de clochards, de personnes sans ressources financières ou sociales.
Il n’y a pas de hippies sur cette île. Il y a des allemands incapables de s’adapter à la vie en Allemagne, et par conséquent sont venus s’isoler sur La Gomera.
Les points positifs: soleil, température de l’eau idéale pour la baignade, belles randonnées à découvrir.
Points négatifs: la communauté allemande a totalement colonisé l’île. Ici, aucun esprit canarien , espagnol ou international.

We spend two weeks holiday in this region, from 10th to 24th October in Playa la Calera.
The town of Valle Gran Rey includes the three villages of La Calera, La Puntilla and Vueltas.
During our holiday we walked along the Promenade de Playa de la Calera, it took us through La Calera, La Puntilla leading to Vueltas and the Port. En route we visited the beaches of the three villages and the Port
Walking away from the seafront we strolled through the narrow streets where we saw unusal buildings, wall art, oddities all combining to create an adventure filled with surprises.
The unusual sights are side by side with historic, traditional, commercial and cultural buildings.
There are numerous restaurants, cafés, bars and a wide variety of artisan, souvenir and supermarkets throughout the region
The Valley is formed by the two large cliffs, La Merica 983 metres high on one side and Teguerguenche 497 metres on the other.

Does any one know how long it takes to drive from Valle Gran Rey to the ferry?
We have a ferry booking at 7:45 am.

You can normally do this journey in 75/90 mins,but
Low clouds up in the mountain can reduce visabillity,so i would air on the side of caution and allow 2hrs +

we are staying here for 2 weeks in November we want to do some walking but I am no good With climbing mountains and heights is there any flatish walks anywhere on the island anyone can recommend ? We are also thinking about hiring a car

There are some flat walks within the national park at the top of the island. Also you can walk in El Cedro.
The best way to rent a car is from Tenerife airrport. Cicar is the best company. You have to inform that you will take the car on the ferry to La Gomera. The fee is only 10 euros and you have transportation both on Tnerife and La Gomera.

It takes 1 hour and it is very well sign posted. However there are a lot of viewpoints that you might want to stay on the way.

We're visiting Valle Gran Rey soon and we're very excited!
Does anyone know of a place where we can either rent or buy a baby chair in Valle Gran Rey (for eating at a table)? We have a toddler of ten months and the hotel doesn't offer one.

Hola Anna, para ir a La Gomera imagino que irás desde el puerto de los cristianos, ahí en Los Cristianos tienes multitud de tiendas y con total seguridad la encuentras, yo me permito aconsejarte que llevéis crema protectora solar sobre todo por el bebé y que disfrutéis al máximo, también aunque no creas que el sol vaya a hacer daño, ten en cuenta que aquí aunque las temperaturas son primaverales el sol es muy intenso

Hi Mona, ja kann man auf jeden Fall! Baby Beach bekommt zwar bei Flut immer wieder frisches Wasser, aber da es so flach ist, erwärmt es sich schnell. Hat dann natürlich keine 30 Grad, aber unser Kleiner war immer drin! VG

How is the road from playa santiago to valle gran rey? Is it very steep and windy? We are cycling around, with our lugage on the bikes.
And from VGR to Agulo, or to San Sebastian?
From san sebastian to playa santiago was okay, but more wind and steeper climbs may be goo challenging.
