We were on a tour from our cruise ship, and it stopped here on our way to Sorrento, which was not indicated on the tour when we booked. This is a lovely store and the demo of cameo making was very interesting. However, we were not interested is purchasing cameos. If you are interested, the 25 minutes that we spent there would not have been sufficient to peruse the store. If you are looking to purchase a cameo, make sure you know what you are looking for before arriving since they have a large number of offerings.

We stopped here because our tour company had an agreement... they bring in the customers and the store allows access to restrooms. A brief but interesting video and demo of cameo making was followed by a visit to the showroom. Here, cameo jewelry in a wide variety of sizes and prices were offered.

I went on a tour and it brought me to this jewelry store. I didn’t plan on getting anything until I learned more about it and made an impulse $300 purchase. I haven’t taken it off yet so it’s definitely worth every penny. It’s very dainty and authentic- I need to go back and buy more. Splurge a little on this vacation 😉

Con esta palabra creo que lo defino todo. No hablaré de lo que no conozco pero sinceramente me ha parecido un lugar para turistas sin más.
El lugar parece que es de artesanía pero en mi caso no es un tema que me interese. Sinceramente en nuestro caso creo que sobra en una excursión que hemos pagado bien pagada.

This was a surprise stop by our tour director on the way to Pompeii. It was delightful to see how cameos are made. I would have never guessed. Beautiful hand crafted jewelry. Something for everyone.

We stopped at the factory as part of our excursion. My mom & I were amazed at the exquisite detail and craftsmanship that goes into each and every cameo. The staff were not aggressive at all and helped me find a small perfect pendant for less than $90 CDN.

This place has been creating these beautiful cameos since 1885, and they are located just outside of Naples, Italy. We were traveling with a group when we stopped at this place...They greeted us and showed us brief video, and also introduced us to one of the artists, that creates these beautiful cameos from the corals. We then went back to a room that housed all of these cameos, and WOW...I did not expect to see the "Last Supper" engraved on one, nor did I expect to see "The Sistine Chapel" on another one. The detail is exquisite and a must have for any traveler to bring back either for themselves or for their mothers. We actually picked up four: one for me, one for our niece and one for both of our mother-in-laws. They are a little expensive; however definitely worth the price.

Our tour bus load of passengers from the Prinsendam has come to see how cameo and coral jewelry is made. We will also test the facilities before moving on. Since1885 high quality shell carved cameo and coral jewels have been made by hand here in Pompeii. An expert shows us how the cameo consists of two layers: a raised figure/scene and a background. Ancient rulers were often carved as pictures into the cameo. Next was a demonstration of how a shell cameo proves translucent when held to light and has a curved back. Traditional cameos were carved from sardonyx or carnelian shell. Today they incorporate materials such as agate, lava, jet, ivory, celluoid, Bakelite, resin, glass, and plastic.
Our expert showed us his bullion, the original cameo carving tool, invented by Italians in the early 1800s and still used today. He add pencil lead to the piece he was working and then carved the lead away to get the needed depth. This process is repeated over and over until the work is completed.
For those that are buying a new cameo he recommends keeping cameos out of sonic cleaners or jewelry cleaning solutions, which can damage or destroy the finish.
Wipe your cameo with mineral oil about once a year, and let it set overnight. In the morning, gently clean it using a cotton swab or soft toothbrush. Wash in lukewarm water and mild soap (non-bacterial dishwashing soap or mild shampoo, for example), and dry thoroughly with a soft cotton cloth or the cool air flow of a hair dryer.
Do not conserve cameos for a long time in a close place. Sometimes leave it exposed to air -- sitting it in your jewelry box works fine.
A very informative demonstration and well worth another visit.

Популярное у туристов место, водят организованные группы - посмотреть и купить. цены, на мой взгляд, завышены. Есть места и подемократичнее!!!

We visited this shop as part of our tour. We watched a short video and was able to see a craftsman at work (amazing!) before visiting the showroom. There were several tables set up around the room, each bearing the same merchandise. Sales people were not pushy. I chose a small pendant that I will pass down to my granddaughters one of these days. I thought the price was reasonable -about $55 American. If you're looking for a small souvenir, this is a good choice.
