It was a long walk to Villa dei Misteri (after a morning visiting many other meaningful sites). On the way there I visited the domus of Dionysius, a must but not publicised sufficiently. The Villa is being refurbished but the main room could still be viewed.

è stata l'ultima tappa di un lungo tour, c'era pochissima gente verso le 17 di un giorno altrimenti molto affollato. Qui si trova anche un'uscita dal sito. la villa è ben conservata, si trovano dei resti di una persona di cui si vedono i tratti del viso. La stanza con il famoso affresco che da' il nome alla casa è visibile solo da una finestra che impedisce di vedere per intero l'affresco

Dit huis dankt zijn naam, aan de grote doorlopende frisco dat 3 muren bedekt. Op de centrale muur zie je Dionysus met zijn vrouw Ariadne. Het is een van de best bewaarde frisco's hier in Pompeï.
Het is de moeite om dit huis te bezoeken. Je kunt het als laatste inplannen om te bezoeken. Er is hier een uitgang (draaihek) om de site te verlaten. Je kan hier je bezoek niet starten, daar er geen ingang is.

It was billed as really interesting, but if you're tired its not really worth the walk. Its a rebuilt Pompei house and has some fresco's and painted walls, thee is better in Herculaum

Un po’ dislocata rispetto alle mura dell’antica città e riaperta dopo la chiusura nel periodo pandemico, la Villa prende il nome dal famoso Salone degli affreschi con figure a grandezza naturale, ispirati alla pittura greca e raffiguranti riti in onore di Dioniso. Molto suggestiva

A Pompei è assolutamente immancabile la visita alla Villa dei Misteri, un posto magico, gli affreschi perfettamente conservati sono da vedere almeno una volta nella vita e lì ritroverete il vero e famoso "rosso pompeiano"

Il faut faire le petit effort d'aller jusqu'à la villa (on n'est plus à 1km près!!!), la fresque murale est juste exceptionnelle à voir.

uno dei motivi principali della mia visita al sito archeologico di Pompei,,,,che dire meravigliosa,,,assolutamente da vedere.
Peccato solo la modalità con la quale è stato deciso di poter ammirare questa meraviglia, infatti non è possibile vedere l affresco nella sua totalità, uno dei soggetti più interessanti( bellissima e giovane sposa dai capelli biondi, assistita da un’ancella) non è visibile, peccato perchè si potrebbe valutare assolutamente la possibilità di ammirare intera opera con delle transenne....
Peccato solo la modalità con la quale è stato deciso di poter ammirare questa meraviglia, infatti non è possibile vedere l affresco nella sua totalità, uno dei soggetti più interessanti( bellissima e giovane sposa dai capelli biondi, assistita da un’ancella) non è visibile, peccato perchè si potrebbe valutare assolutamente la possibilità di ammirare intera opera con delle transenne....

Non, vous devez acheter d´autre fois le billet de Pompei, on peux pas acheter seulement celui de la ville.

Yes, it part of the city of pompeii, although it was built just outside the city walls, but it is still with in the Pompeii site, and as such can be viewed with in your days entrance. it is well worth the extra walking to see the fabulous wall paintings

Ciao Laura, la Villa dei Misteri è inclusa nel biglietto d'ingresso, quindi puoi visitarla tranquillamente anche con l'ingresso gratuito. Mi raccomando di visitarla, è stupenda!!

Non si puo visitare solo la villa, devi adquire il biglieto normale de tutta la visita a pompei.

We have been to Pompeii twice but would like to return to visit House/Villa of Mysteries and Villa di Diomedi which we have not seen (we did see the tombs outside Porta Ercolano though). Can we purchase Pompeii tickets for the villa(s) at the entrance by House of Mysteries versus having to purchase them at the main gate? In your experience, would the line be shorter at the House of Mysteries entrance? Is the "House/Villa" entrance always open during Pompeii's operating hours? If so, this would save us time and enable us to see more as we could bee-line right to House of Mysteries and then go through the Porta Ercolano gate afterwards to see whatever else time permits.

The door by the Villa dei misteri is only an exit.
You have to enter through one of the entrances. The closest one is downhill on the left hand side of the road when exiting the Circumvesuviana station.
You will then have to make your way to the villa.
Go early in the morning before the tour busses arrive

I am taking a cruise and one stop is Naples. What are the nearest tourist attractions to the cruise port? How near is this to the cruise port? Thanks.

Cruise ships generally have excursions to Pompei. Be prepared for a hot few hours with lots of other Visitors. I would not recommend going on your own there.
If the cruise offers a trip to Paestum take that in preference to Pompei. The site is much quieter and the temples are out of this world.
If you Stay in Naples There are lots of sights to see. I recommend a trip up to Capo di Monte palace. Easy to get to by bus or taxi. Go in the morning and be sure you see Andy Warhol's Vesuvius and Carravagio' flagellation which is breathTaking.
From there go to see the Catacombs of San Gennaro, which is a short bus ride from Capo di Monte back to Naples centre. Check opening times on line for both attractions.
If you don't have that much time stay in Naples and see the cathedral, the historic centre and the underground world of St Lorenz Maggiore, which takes you back through the Greek, Roman and Medieaval history of the site.
Be very careful around the train station and on public transport in Naples. The pickpockets are masters of their art!!
For a more energetic day You can get a 1 day ticket that covers the whole of Naples by bus and metro M 2 mto Pozzuoli, which has a fantastic Amphitheatre and Roman market as well as the Solfatara, a crater that still sends out steam and bubbling mud.
Around the harbour there are lots of nice restaurants and if you are there before lunch time try and get to the Rione Terra, the old part of the town. The duomo is partly a roman temple an is a great place to visit but it closes at lunchtime so check opening times of the places you want to see.

To get to the villa, do you first enter Pompeii at the main entrance and then walk to the villa or do you walk down the road outside the main ruins to a separate entrance to the villa? Need separate ticket?

It is part of the Pompeian Ruins. At the northwest entrance kind of by itself. It was a pretty nice house of one of the more wealthy residents. There are some great frescoes and there is continuing restoration at this site. I went through it on my way out towards the old Ercolaneum road gate.
