Although I sent an inquiry via their website for a tour while in Rome we were totally ignored. Thank goodness there were many reputable companies that did respond.

A fantastic tour which was made by the knowledge and enthusiasm of our guide, Teresa. Her narration of the history of the Colosseum and Forum was full of small anecdotes (who knew that the fertility of the Roman nobles was affected by the lead pipes in their palaces!) as well as describing a broad sweep of Roman history. The trip ‘underground’ is definitely worth the extra money, absolutely fascinating and a view of the Colosseum that most of the crowds miss. Highly recommended.

Our guide was truly wonderful and helped us navigate the crowds very well, sharing her knowledge and giving us a behind the scenes look at what life in the Colosseum would really have been like. The exclusive portions of the tour were really special. Highly recommend this tour and well worth the money!

Our experiences were everything that we had wanted them to be. Our guide was very knowledgeable and his information and descriptions painted vivid pictures of the society during those times. Would highly recommend this company and yes it was worth every dime.

Our tour was fantastic! As a family with young teens, who had never been to Italy before we absolutely loved our tour. Our tour guide had so much information to share. Visiting in July, it was steamy hot, our guide not only was informative and answered our questions, but was considerate of our inexperience as n the heat and we found shade or took breaks as needed. Well informed tour!

To start with, Real Rome Tours was proactive and responsive from start to finish. Colosseum tickets must be booked max 4 weeks out, so it's a bit of a scalping game to get tickets. Real Rome executed it perfectly and let us know immediately that tickets were secured. Detailed instructions on meetup point were provided well in advance and we found the process completely seamless and stress-free. Booking a private tour for this specific experience is a must, in our opinion - to avoid lines and chaos and other hassles that are just inevitable in Rome.
Our tour guide, Theresa was extremely knowledgeable about all things ancient Rome. As a PhD professor, her insight and detailed knowledge really made the tour special. It was almost like having a walking textbook next to you! She was also friendly and conversational, which made the experience fly by (sadly!). We met her at the entrance to the Roman Forum and leisurely strolled around this beautiful, sprawling section of ancient Rome while she explained all of the history of the ruins, gardens, monuments, basilica, and other structures. The Colosseum was the last part of the tour and we breezed past all of the tourists and lines straight into a queue to go see the underground floor, which was probably the best part of the Colosseum tour. The arena and other levels have their own breathtaking charm, but we found all of the peculiar details of the lower level to be fascinating.

Thankyou so much for a great tour! It was a group tour of only a maximum of 6 which was well worth it. The tour guide teresa was very friendly, knowledgeable and informative. Thank-you for a great experience. I 100% recommend.

We had an amazing experience touring the Colosseum and underground, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Real Rome was very upfront about how getting tickets for the underground worked with the new system the colosseum has in place. They managed expectations by saying that it wasn’t guaranteed until a few weeks before our travel date when tickets go on sale to tour companies and they try hard to get all tickets needed! They didn’t charge us until tickets had indeed been acquired. I read a lot of reviews of other less upfront companies that said it felt like a bait and switch because they didn’t know until the day of that the company didn’t actually secure tickets for them. Not so with Real Rome! Real Rome also had great communication during booking, when tickets had been acquired, and how to meet our guide. Our guide, Patrizia, was excellent! She was very knowledgeable and added a lot to our understanding of the history of Rome and the colosseum itself. I can’t imagine touring these locations without a guide! You’d miss so much good info! I definitely recommend this tour company!

The underground colosseum tour was outstanding. Highly recommend! Communication prior to our trip and tour was amazing and our guide Teresa was knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to understand. Overall a wonderful experience!

Highest recommendation possible for Real Rome Tours! Before we even arrived, Gerard was fantastic at communication, tailoring the tour to our interests, and figuring out the best times to arrive at each spot. They were always on time to pick us up at our hotel and stayed on time throughout the day. The Mercedes van was always clean and had water in it for us. There was only two of us but it would have comfortably seated 6 people. We booked them for the evening walking tour--a must to see Rome at night with Heidi, the next day a full tour of Rome complete with the Vatican, Colosseum, and more with Max and Fabio, and in our final day an amazing drive to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast with Fabio and Katerina. Highly recommend all three tours. At the end of each day they always gave their recommendations on dinner choices and dessert. Gerard, Heidi, Max, Fabio, and Katerina, many many thanks!

There are 4 of us. We have 2 days in Rome, the 9th + 10th September.. 2 of us tire very quickly (over 60) We originally thought we would do the Rome in a day tour but are thinking we should do it in 2 halves. What do you advise? would the price work out the same?

The Rome in A Day Group Tour lasts for 8 hours and the Private Tour lasts for 6 hours (the pace could be adjusted with the guide). This tour is available only on September 9th as the Vatican Museums are closed on Sundays (September 10th). We can split the tour in 2 days as well but please note that in this case the city center stroll will not be included (only Rome In A Day itinerary includes it).
You could join the Vatican Tour on September 9th in a group or private way and the Ancient Rome Tour on September 10th - private option only.
The prices vary depending on the tour options.

We did the Colosseum Underground VIP Tour last March. We also did the Early Bird Vatican Tour. Both were excellent. We will be in Rome again the 26- April and 27- April with another couple. We want to repeat these tours. I see we can book the Early Bird for the 27th but cannot book the Colosseum Underground this early. Our only date available is the 26th. Please advise Tom

Let us explain why the Underground Tour is not available yet. The Colosseum allows us to make reservations for the underground every month, and we can only make this tour available for sale when we have our reservations in place. For tours in April, this will be sometime in the middle of March, as the exact date when we can make our reservations is only made known to us 2 weeks prior.
In the meantime, you can book our Ancient Rome tour, which visits all of the same places with the exception of the reserved areas of the Colosseum underground, third tier and arena floor. When booking through our website, you can tick the box to request an upgrade to the version including these areas, which we will then prioritise when making our reservations for the period.
If you do not wish to book the regular Ancient Rome tour, but prefer to wait for confirmation of the dates on which the Underground tour is available, please check back on our website for updates during the month of March.

Hello, the Ancient Rome tour is available as a private tour and as a semi-private tour. The private tour can be arranged for parties of all sizes, while the semi-private tour is limited to a maximum of 13 people per group.

Hello kamykef, our Colosseum Underground tour is very popular, and you should see the Vatican also while you are in Rome. The Early Bird option is again very popular, because we enter before the doors are officially opened to the public, so the Sistine Chapel is less crowded than usual.
