Imposing structure of the great architect Bramante with its immense columns. Don't miss it! The magnificence from Rome can also be seen in these works!

I try to enter the cloister as I have done for a lifetime but at the ticket office they stop me: for the visit now you have to pay a ticket. Pazzesco!

Chiostro del Bramante it's a beautiful museum and coffee shop, we enjoyed the museum, the church and a nice wee break in the beautiful renovated coffee bar. Highly recommended. Free WiFi, very quite location for meeting up a friend, for studying and so on.

We liked the cloister and the art event.
The construction of the church of S. Maria della Pace was followed by that of the nearby monastery which was promoted by Cardinal Oliviero Carafa in ca. 1500-1504.
The beautiful cloister (chiostro) of the church of Santa Maria della Pace was designed by Donato Bramante (1444-1514), and it is a prominent element of the church itself, a Renaissance masterpiece: it acts as a counterpoint to the soft lines of the church. .
Built on a square plan, the cloister is made up of two storeys. The lower storey is a spacious vaulted portico with four arches on each side.
The arches are articulated with Ionic pilasters. The upper storey is an open gallery with alternating Corinthian pilasters and columns and a wooden ceiling.
At the base of each pillar of the loggia, there are seats once used by the monks, while the walls of the portico on the ground floor are adorned with sepulchral monuments from the end of the fifteenth century.
Inside the portico, the lunettes on the back wall are frescoed with Stories from the life of the Virgin, to which are added episodes linked to the church and the miraculous image.
The most unusual feature of the design is the placing of a column above the centre of each of the ground-floor arches, thus breaking the hallowed rule of void over void and solid over solid.
The cloister is the most beautiful example of an early Renaissance court in Rome, marking a harmonious renewal in the construction of the loggias: there are four arches on the ground floor, all supported by Doric pillars on which Ionic pilasters are placed, whilst in the upper loggia the composite pillars alternate with Corinthian columns creating eight openings on each side, above which an architrave takes the place of the round arches.
The two orders are separated by the dedicatory inscription that runs along the entablature. Bramante gave up the decorative richness and illusionistic effects of his Lombard period, still present in the choir of "Santa Maria del Popolo", for a sober solemnity that responds to a supreme idea of regularity.
The harmony of lines of the portico with pilasters and of the superimposed loggia with pillars and columns, combined with the serene atmosphere, makes this place a corner of extraordinary beauty.
The convent, initially intended for the Lateran canons, passed to the Dominicans with Pius VII, then to the regular clergy.
Today the complex is an international cultural center and hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
The upper floor of Bramante's cloister is home to a charming café.
It was a lovery experience.

The ugliest exhibition ever seen, exorbitant ticket price, lasts very little and you leave disappointed and disconcerted by such banality and ugliness.

How to spoil an extraordinary renaissance building with modern artsy noise and decorations and a useless bookshop. What a shame!

Absolutely to avoid
Cost as a companion of a disabled person €15 (full ticket) for 6 meaningless rooms even using a lot of imagination

A quality but super affordable coffee maker, immersed in the contemporary art proposed by DART, refined and never banal, surrounded by Bramante, Raffaello, Rosso Fiorentino... An intelligent way to approach and experience art. An experience that only the best Italy can give us. Unrepeatable elsewhere.

If you want to experience 2 hours of ugliness, then I invite you to visit the EMOTION exhibition!
Our luck is that we didn't pay for the tickets because they gave them to us as gifts.
Horrible, empty of meaning, senseless. There is no interaction, no involvement.
Afterwards we went to the Escher exhibition at Palazzo Bonaparte to feast our eyes and soul... Now that's a marvel!!!

How far is this from the Borghese Gardens?
كُتب بتاريخ 2 أبريل 2016
Since the gardens are rather large it's difficult to judge but it's about 25 minutes (walking) from Spagna or Spanish Steps.
