The structure is one of the oldest in Rome, dating from the 2nd century B.C. Hercules was the protector of oil producers. Expensive pentelic marble was used, showing the power of the equestrian class. It is near the Temple of Portunus.

To go inside you need to pre book as part of a guided tour with the nearby Temple of Portunus, only available two days a week. This is an old, Greek style temple that is visible from the Palatine Hill. It is next to the Theatre of Mercellus, in the Forum Boarium area.
The temple was built in the second century BC and also served as a church as the population converted from pagansim. It's in a nice area near the Tiber with benches nearby.

The Temple of Portunus is an elegant, small rectangular temple in Rome's Forum Boarium, and is one of the oldest in Rome. Lovely to sit in the little park area and enjoy this and the other ancient temple as well as the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.

The Temple of Hercules Victor is a beautiful, ancient round temple in the Forum Boarium. Nearby is the Temple of Portunus, the Arch of Janus. and the churches of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and San Giorgio in Velabro. An area well worth seeing.

Per lungo tempo si è pensato che fosse il tempio della Fortuna Virile, poi all’inizio del novecento è stato identificato con il tempio di Portuno, il dio protettore dell’antico e vicino porto fluviale. L’edificio non è molto grande e presenta un pronao a quattro colonne ioniche sul fronte e una sui due lati, che precede una cella di forma rettangolare alla quale si addossano diverse semicolonne. Nell’anno 872 fu trasformato in chiesa cristiana col nome di S. Maria Egiziaca, la struttura ecclesiastica venne eliminata soltanto a inizio del secolo scorso per rimettere in luce il tempio romano.

E’ il più antico edificio superstite di Roma realizzato in marmo, noto impropriamente anche come tempio di Vesta perché di forma circolare come quello del Foro Romano, risalente a fine sec. II a.C. e restaurato successivamente. Nel sec. XII divenne chiesa prima col nome di S. Stefano, detta delle Carrozze, e poi S. Maria del Sole. Si trova in piazza della Bocca della Verità, tra il tempio di Portuno e la fontana dei Tritoni, ed è composto da eleganti colonne corinzie che circondano la cella cilindrica.

Templo con diversas dedicaciones que es muy antiguo, ahora está ahí esperándote a que te deleites en su contemplacióin, está muy bien conservado en pequeña zona verde. De noche se ve hermoso.

Di epoca repubblicana risalente al IV° secolo a.C.Sorgeva al limite del porto al di fuori delle mura.Rettangolare con 4 colonne scanalate sul davanti e semicolonne sui lati è costruito in tufo e travertino.In passato è stato trasformato in chiesa e forse anche per questo è giunto sino a noi in buone condizioni. Chiuso e non visitabile.

E' il più antico edificio di marmo giunto a noi quasi intatto.Si trova nell'area del Foro Boario ed è dedicato al dio protettore dei commercianti;è di forma circolare con 20 colonne corinzie alte 11 metri che poggiano su gradini di marmo.Trovato chiuso,quindi non visitabile.

Nel Foro Boario (attuale area verde in piazza della Bocca della Verità), vicino al rettangolare tempio di Portuno (anch’esso di epoca repubblicana) vi è questo tempio circolare dedicato ad Ercole e ben conservato pur risalendo al 120 a.C., risultando così il più antico edificio in marmo dell’antica Roma che ci è pervenuto. E’ caratterizzato da una cella rotonda circondata da 20 eleganti colonne scanalate in marmo (una però e mancante) e terminanti con capitelli corinzi (alcuni purtroppo incompleti). Nonostante si siano persi alcuni elementi, tra cui la maggior parte della trabeazione e la copertura originaria, il monumento risulta in buone condizioni, grazie al fatto che nel medioevo fu utilizzato come chiesa, utilizzo che si è protratto fino agli inizi del XIX secolo, quando fu restituito all’antica funzione e riportato alle forme originarie dal Valadier.
E’ conosciuto anche come tempio di Vesta, a causa della sua forma, simile al vero tempio di Vesta che è nel foro romano.
Il tempio, pur con prenotazione, può essere visitato internamente (anche se non c’è molto da vedere: solo un affresco rinascimentale) ma, a quanto mi risulta, al momento le visite sono sospese.
E’ conosciuto anche come tempio di Vesta, a causa della sua forma, simile al vero tempio di Vesta che è nel foro romano.
Il tempio, pur con prenotazione, può essere visitato internamente (anche se non c’è molto da vedere: solo un affresco rinascimentale) ma, a quanto mi risulta, al momento le visite sono sospese.
