Questo palazzo era la sede dei mercanti nel xv secolo, bellissima la facciata esterna gotico veneziana. Purtroppo ci siamo passati diverse volte, ma l'abbiamo sempre trovato chiuso. peccato.

Può essere ammirata solo la facciata, ricchissima di stupendi decori, di questo antico mercato la cui magnificenza doveva dimostrare il buon esito dei commerci dei cittadini.

La loggia dei Mercanti è il più importante edificio civile della città ed il simbolo della sua vitalità commerciale. Si trova nelle vicinanze del porto e fu voluto dagli Anziani come sede dell' esposizione e della compravendita delle merci provenienti da oltremare. La decorazione della facciata fu commissionata allo scultore dalmata Giorgio di Matteo da Sebenico che si ispirò allo stile gotico fiorito. Al centro si staglia il Cavaliere a cavallo con spada , simbolo , secondo la tradizione, dell' imperatore Traiano e stemma di Ancona. Nelle edicole sono collocate quattro statue raffiguranti le virtù del buon mercante cristiano, la Speranza, la Furbizia, la Giustizia e la Carità. Edificio elegante e testimonianza dell' antica importanza della città, nodo di scambio tra Oriente ed Occidente , Nord e Sud. L' interno non è visitabile.

There's not a whole lot to do in Ancona and this little Museum was no exception. It's got like two pictures on the wall and a bunch of chairs. An absolute bore. The only reason I gave it to stars is because the staff is friendly and it was air-conditioned

Molto bello e sicuramente da visitare, consiglio il tour con una guida per scoprire cosa accadeva in questo palazzo. Anche dall'esterno lo stile si fa sentire.

Ad Ancona per lavoro lo scorso luglio, sono ripassato davanti a questa loggia poichè avevo l'hotel a due passi. Costruito in stile neogotico veneziano tra il 1300 e il 1400, venivano qui esposte le mercanzie, con l'aiuto del vicino porto

We passed by the Loggia dei Mercanti in Ancona whilst docked in the port for a sunny Sunday in June. We had opted to explore the town on foot and had prepared our own agenda with points of interest to visit.
The house is located in a narrow side street just off of the Piazza della Repubblica where we had stopped for a drink.
The house was built to enable a meeting point for prosperous merchants and the upper storey facade is highly decorated with ornate stone carvings. Unfortunately due to the width of the street that it is situated in, it is almost impossible to get a good photo of the overall effect, although there is a small side street almost opposite which helps with the angle. The house appeared to be open on the day of our visit although we were not clear if you could enter and we did not really have the time anyway for an in depth visit.
Certainly worth a passing look if you are visiting and taking a walk around the port.

Dating from the 15C but modified over the years, unfortunately the fabulous façade is almost impossible to photograph as the street is extremely narrow. Also difficult to actually look at the façade. Inside we spotted a small replica of the facade on a stand.
There are also info sheets in different languages which describe both the façade and the various statues and frescoes, all of which are impressive.
If open, do go in.
