Well worth the trip up. We are in our 70’s so didn’t do the long portico walk. Instead we went to Piazza Maggiore and caught the San Luca Express which is the little tourist train. Tickets are sold in the Piazza. From memory it was €12 per person with an additional €5 per person if you want to climb the 100 steps inside to the top of the dome. We did purchase the extra ticket and managed the climb fine. It is a very tight stone winding staircase and you go up and down the same way, however, there are large alcoves at intervals to pass or simply have a rest if you need it. The view from the top made it all worth it. The interior of the sanctuary is beautiful and at certain times you can go up and view the icon of the Virgin Mary and Child. The views from the garden and terrace out front are magnificent. Take some time to sit out front and enjoy this space. Even though we took the train up and back, we still got a good look at the portico as the train runs along side it.

Questo santuario merita sicuramente una visita anche per ammirare, durante il percorso da Porta Saragozza, lo splendido porticato che è lungo circa quattro chilometri. Essendo edificato su un colle è possibile anche godere di una bella vista di Bologna e delle zone circostanti.

C'est vrai! La montée par le petit train San Luca Express est sympathique et peu chère. Le site du sanctuaire est joli mais la vue sur Bologne est quelconque. Idem pour l'intérieur de l'église. A part ça, pas de parc ou d'espace où se reposer, pas de buvette, pas de toilettes. Il n'est pas inintéressant ni trop fatigant de redescendre à pied par l'allée couverte sous les 666 arcades. Mais globalement, ne faire cette excursion que si on a déjà vu tout le reste. La ville est nettement plus intéressante

Caught the little road train from Piazza Maggiore to the Santuario as not sure we fancied the walk both ways as it was very hot. Great decision! The architecture of the sanctuario is beautiful and well worth the trip for the beautiful views of the countryside surrounding Bologna. Walked back to the city via the 4km long portico and thoroughly enjoyed it as there are interesting chapels to see on the way and it didn't feel too far - took us just over an hour before we stopped for a well deserved spritz and pizza!!

As we are knocking on a bit now we did take the land train to the Basilica, in both directions. It is nice ride through the town and when we saw how steep the hill was to the summit, we knew we made the right decision. The basilica itself has a fantastic position on the top of the hill overlooking Bologna, and the interior is superb, it has toilets if needed and it was well worth a visit as the interior of the building is just stunning.

Santuario facilmente raggiungibile grazie al servizio ben organizzato "San Luca Express"
Appena si raggiunge il santuario, lo si può vedere nella sua ampiezza.
C'è possibilità di vedere un bellissimo panorama dall'alto del santuario, cosa che consiglio vivamente.

On a hot day we decided to catch the land train from the Piazza Maggiore up to the church and then walk back down the hill through the porticos - it was amazing. The church at the top was fairly quiet inside and absolutely stunning. We then walked back down to the city centre under the shelter of the porticos enjoying the views and the odd painting or statue on the way.
This is a must if you are visiting Bologna.

Il Sabtuario della Madonna di San Luca é una delle chiese più importanti di Bologna, sicuramente quello a cui i cittadini sono più affezionati.
La chiesa venne completata in stile barocco nel 1765, e venne realizzata per custodire la miracolosa icona della Madonna di San Luca.
L'interno ospita meravigliose tele e affreschi, e una cupola decorata nel Settecento.
Una scala consente di salire sull'altare dove si trova l'icona della Madonna di San Luca. La chiesa comprende anche una cripta sotterranea, mentre un'altra scala consente la salita alla cupola.
Visita consigliata.
La chiesa venne completata in stile barocco nel 1765, e venne realizzata per custodire la miracolosa icona della Madonna di San Luca.

Dalla strada da cui siamo saliti con il trenino express, credo che per un pulman sia difficile arrivarci visto che ci sono delle curve abbastanza strette ed impegnative in salita.
La strada dal parcheggio al santuario è percorribile con un passeggino?

Ciao, noi abbiamo lasciato l'auto proprio al di fuori del cancellone del santuario. Ci sono dei sampietrini ma è fattibile con il passeggino. Poi puoi utilizzare l'ascensore per salire in Basilica, quindi sì al passeggino. Se invece fai i portici, tieni presente che ci sono ogni tot dei gradini, e quindi con il passeggino può diventare difficoltoso.
Il parcheggio nella piazza del Santuario è a pagamento? Grazie

Scusate ma la salita dall'Arco del Meloncello al Santuario (parallela al portico) è percorribile in auto/moto nei giorni feriali o ci sono limitazioni di traffico (ztl, permessi...)? E' di libero accesso? Grazie a tutti.

Ho letto che c'è un percorso di circa 3700mt ad arrivare fino in cima al San Luca, che parte dal centro, qualcuno sa darmi l'indirizzo da cui parte? Grazie!

Buongiorno
è molto facile, cerca via Saragozza, parte dal centro e procedendo a passo comodo o come meglio, a passo deciso, sotto i portici, vai verso porta Saragozza e prosegui attraversando il viale e poi sempre sotto i portici (sempre via Saragozza) passi davanti alla pasticceria Neri, dove puoi fare una sosta, e poi ancora avanti sino a San Luca.
