Visita con degustazione assolutamente consigliata a tutti! Amalia, guida materna e molto preparata , ha spiegato in maniera esaustiva e lineare tutto il processo evolutivo che va dal latte.. al parmigiano a tavola!
Molto interessante e a tratti emozionante… : veder nascere sotto ai nostri occhi un passato che emerge e che ci rispecchia.
Acquisto il loco a buon prezzo.

A great dairy, very close to Parma. Easily can take a taxi, though I drove. Small farm with a family of diary farmers and a family of cheesemakers that have worked together for generations.
Highly recommend a 9a tour, to see actual cheese production. Process is described in detail and very informative. This farm also produces cheese from Parma brown cows (most PR is made from Holstein cows). These cows produce less milk, but with a higher fat that produce a more flavorful cheese. Aging room is insta-worthy.
Great pride and passion for this slow food art are shown. Tasting is truly just a taste, but the information is well-worth it. Also, tractor museum is pretty cool, right off the tasting room.
Buy as much cheese as you can - it's incredibly affordable (you'll pay 4x minimum in the US). In cooler temps, vacuum sealed cheese can stay at room temperature until you get home.

This fascinating tour was given at the cheesemaking facility by a 7th generation member of the family dairy farm. The visit is a feast of interesting facts and one that appeals to all the senses. You can see the different color of the wheels at various ages, smell the aromas in each room from beginning to end, feel the difference in firmness as the wheels mature, and hear the resonance of the cheese as the wheels are tapped with a special metal hammer. Finally, a gratifying tasting at the end. It's over the top with aged balsamic vinegar or even fruit jams. Who would have known? This is NOT the same “parmesan cheese” from the grocery store. I am enlightened now.
Here you will learn not only how cheese is made, but THIS specific process, only from this small region of Northern Italy. The flavor is overwhelmingly superior.
The family members work hard daily, production is all done BY HAND, and there are numerous regulations that must be adhered to in order to earn the Parmigiano-Reggiano name. It's eye-opening and reinforces the worth of every bit that is charged for this revered cheese.

Comprato il parmigiano reggiano 12/24/30 mesi. Mai successo di trovare 3 su 3 che non sanno dì niente, non sembra parmigiano reggiano. Ho comprato varie volte in diversi caseifici ma una cosa così mai capitata. Anche il 30 mesi, non è possibile non sapere di niente così. Meglio il grana padano della Pam. Sarò stato sfortunato io vedendo le altre recensioni, ma veramente mai sentito un parmigiano reggiano così..

Our hostess was knowledgeable and totally amazing!! She explained the process well and allowed questions and comments. She was truly exceptional in her abilities to conduct a group and make everyone feel welcome. The cheese was incredible and we purchased quite a bit. The only thing they could add was the ability to ship more of this delicious cheese.

Visite guidée passionnante (en anglais ou en italien, 20€/per), sur RDV, qui vous apprendra tout sur la fabrication du parmesan. La famille qui s'en occupe sait transmettre sa passion pour le travail bien fait et repondra à toutes vos questions. Degustation à la fin pour bien gouter la difference entre le 12/24/36 mois. A ne pas manquer si vous etes dans la region !

Great tour in English and Italian, well organized and led by one of the local owners/farmers. There is a tasting at the end. 15 minutes from Old Parma.

Siamo stati in visita in questo piccolo caseificio a conduzione familiare e consigliamo vivamente questa esperienza .
La visita prevede la visione della produzione nel dettaglio, compresa la sala della stagionatura . Personale cortese e preparato . Lo consiglio sia a coppie che famiglie. Ci ritorneremo!

Lors de cette visite réservée à l'avance (cause Covid), nous avons assisté à toutes les étapes de la fabrication du vrai parmesan. La visite est commentée en anglais. Notre guide nous a fournit des explications claires et détaillées, elle nous a expliqué ce qui permettait de donner l'appellation au fromage et elle a répondu à nos questions.
Cette entreprise est une entreprise familiale et notre guide fait partie de la famille. elle est passionné par le parmesan et arrive à transmettre avec bonne humeur les saveurs de son fromage.
A l'issue de la visite qui dure un peu moins de 2 heures, une dégustation de fromage est proposée. Puis un petit tour par la boutique avant de partir, permet d'emmener chez vous quelques saveurs de cette belle découverte.
Cette entreprise est une entreprise familiale et notre guide fait partie de la famille. elle est passionné par le parmesan et arrive à transmettre avec bonne humeur les saveurs de son fromage.
A l'issue de la visite qui dure un peu moins de 2 heures, une dégustation de fromage est proposée. Puis un petit tour par la boutique avant de partir, permet d'emmener chez vous quelques saveurs de cette belle découverte.

Hello,
If we visit Caseificio San Pier Damiani on our own (without a tour group), what is the best way to arrange transportation? We can hire a cab to take us to Caseificio San Pier Damiani, but I'm not sure what the best method of getting back to Parma is? Is it easy to call another cab to pick us up, or to arrange for pickup at a certain time?

This was very educational and sort of fun, in a very personal, small venue and up-close way. Don't miss it.
We had a car. We went places with a car...out of the way, off the beaten path so to speak. I highly recommend one for the Parma area, if only for two or three days. Point A to point B is not the most efficient way to see more, i.e. locals, personal idiosyncrasies, non-touristy restaurants, sites, scenery, oddities of an area, etc.
The cheese maker is about 10-15 minutes out of Parma and certainly can be reached by cab, plus the return trip. Should not be many Euros each way.

Was it easy to get a taxi to/from or did you have to pre-arrange one? Also, did you hire the English guide once you got there or is that something you set up in advance? If in advance, how did you make the arrangement?

I'm so sorry for the delay in answering your question. Somehow TripAdvisor isn't letting me know when I have a question waiting for an answer.
We had not problems finding a taxi after arriving at the train station. There was a taxi dropping someone off, and we just jumped in. After the visit to Caseificio San Pier Damiani, they called a cab for us and it took about 10-15 minutes for it to arrive.
We did not use an English guide. I believe you can let them know you want a guide and they will provide one for a fee. But we downloaded an audioguide before we went. I think they send the link to us when we made the reservation. And we listened to that while we were there. It explained everything that we were seeing. When we had questions, we used our feeble Italian or I used Google Translate to get the idea across. While it might be nice to have an English guide, I don't think it's necessary. You can figure out what they are doing by just watching.
Enjoy your visit there. It's a very nice place. We were the only ones there on the day we went but even if you had a big group, it would still be fascinating. It was a highlight for us.
