It occupies the space, more or less, of the ancient forum of Ariminum, where the cardo and decumanus maximus crossed. In it you can see the free temple of San Antonio and behind it a modern rotunda church dedicated to the same saint, a Roman plinth, the statue of Julius Caesar remembering the harangue to his soldiers to go to Rome against the Senate, as well as shops, cafes , ice cream parlors etc.

Almost in the very center of Rimini is one of the oldest squares in the city - Piazza tre Martiri. If translated into “the language of native aspens” - the Square of the Three Martyrs. Agree, not the most fun “name”? I am sure that you visited both it and Piazza Cavour during your visit to Rimini.
But if Kovur Square - an urban “penny” with the “Shishka” fountain, a monument to Pope Paul V and a “host” of architectural and other must-see landmarks is nothing more than a harmonious collection of attractions, then I personally perceived Tre Martiri Square like a kind of historical “heart”, for more than two thousand years “beating” in unison with the life of Rimini with all its joys and sorrows, ups and downs, “black and white stripes”...
Let me move away from copy-pasting online information about the history of this interesting Piazza - you can read about it yourself on the net. But how many squares on your travel routes were there where one of the greatest rulers of mankind, the Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar, spoke? If you haven’t already, head to Rimini, on Piazza tre Martiri!!!
After all, it was here, at the intersection of il cardo and il decumano, on the formed public “penny” of the city, in 49 BC, that an outstanding commander, having crossed the Rubicon River, flowing north of Rimini, appealed to his maniples, cohorts and legions with a request to support his decision to march on Rome!!! Such an event could not go unnoticed - look for a low column with an inscription in Latin on the eastern side of the Piazza, where Via IV Novembre begins.
On this same square you will see the sculpture of Caesar, which Benito Mussolini himself donated to the city from the generosity of his soul, the Clock Tower, the Tingoli and Brioli palaces, the temple of St. Anthony of Padua, the chapel in memory of the “Miracle of the Mule”, the very sad place where the gallows stood, on which three partisans (the same “Three Martyrs” who gave the “name” of the Square) were hanged in 1944, etc. Alas, three churches that once stood on the Piazza - San Giorgio, San Michelle and Sant’Innocenza - have not survived to this day (which does not detract from the interestingness of this Square).
During its existence, the Square has seen different things: brisk trade and public ceremonies, knightly tournaments and the burning of all sorts of witches “for the sake of variety.” And over the course of many centuries, it changed its “name” more than once or twice: Piazza delle Erbe (Grass Square), Grande piazza (Big Square), Piazza del mulo (Mule Square), Piazza Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar Square). Either in 1944 or 1946 (sources interpret it differently) it received its current name - Piazza Tre Martiri (Three Martyrs Square) in memory of the tragedy that occurred on August 16, 1944.
On this day, three members of the Italian Resistance, Mario Capelli, Luigi Nicolo and Adelio Pagliarani, were hanged in the square. These partisans were part of the 29th brigade named Gastone Sozzi and were sent by the command to conduct sabotage operations in Rimini. Unfortunately, the mission ended in failure: on August 14, 1944, they were captured in an old barracks on Via Ducale.
And just two days later, at 7 o’clock in the morning on August 16, 1944, the trinity of brave men was hanged in Julius Caesar Square. If you believe numerous legends, their last words were: “Long live Stalin!”... By the decision of the city council appointed by the National Liberation Committee, Piazza Giulio Cesare was renamed Piazza Tre Martiri.
The memory of the fallen heroes is immortalized in Rimini by two memorial plaques by the sculptor and medalist Elio Morri, the author of numerous works of the first half of the 20th century: the first - in the Square of the Three Martyrs, on the corner of the house to the left of the Church of St. Anthony of Padua - just opposite the place where the execution, and the second on the wall of the old barracks on Via Ducale, where the partisans were captured.
The very place where the gallows was installed is marked on the square by two parallel white oblique stripes tiled on the sidewalk. Yes, and for lovers of the work of Federico Fellini: at the very corner of the Piazza, where Corso d'Augusto and Via Antonio Battarro meet, there was once a bar “Rossini”, where in his youth the great Master often hung out, playing billiards with his friends. So I definitely recommend visiting Piazza tre Martiri!!!

Really good piazza that certainly is full of history (like most of Italy!!!)
When I was there piazza had market stalls in there and was interesting to walk around them, had lunch in restaurant surrounding square that was nice, square does have some energy to it with all the tourists and locals.

A nice, historic square in the old town. Shopping and nice restaurants nearby to cater to all your spending needs. It can get quite hot in the summer, so bring a bottle of water and let yourself get lost in the back alleys of old town Rimni.

The Piazza Tre Martiri is one of the major public squares of RImini, located at the crossroads between the decumanus and the maximi leading to the Arco di Augusto. Some of the great landmarks in the square include the Piazza delle Erbe, the Torre dell'Orologio and the Monument to the Fallen, located at the foot of the tower. There's also a statue of Julius Caesar at near the northern part of the square, which fans of is worth seeking out.

This locale was the ancient Roman forum where Julius Caesar stopped after crossing the Rubicon as a statue and a memorial testify the same. It had been a market-place for centuries and later on in the 20th century was called 'Piazza Tre Martiri' in memory of the three young partisans executed here on 16th August 1944. A marble insert indicates the spot.Today it is the main town centre of Rimini with a variety of shops, restaurants and
