Large central Gothic church where the construction began in 1290, it has a stunning interior, 14th century artwork and frescoes. Very impressive and definately worth a visit, for us a highlight of Verona.

Very beautiful and particular is the Basilica of Sant'Anastasia with the ceiling in the shape of an overturned ship's hull and the lower Church in which there are ancient frescoes. We found it interesting to follow the route with the free audio guide found on IZI Travel. We recommend to make the ticket that includes a visit to the four main churches of Verona.

This was the first church we visited with our Verona Pass. We were impressed by the beautiful ceilings and the inlaid marble floors. There are several chapels with intricately carved terracotta walls and other decorations.
One notable feature are the two hunchback figures. In Italian folklore, The Hunchback is considered to be a good soul who personifies humility and hardship; and for that reason, they are often thought to bring good luck. To touch the Hunchback’s back is considered good luck. They are often depicted supporting the basins containing the holy water.

We visited 3 churches while staying in Verona, this by far is the largest and the most impressive. As part of the Verona Pass sights, the entrance is already "included". While the entrance and exterior were not as stunning as the other churches we've seen on our trip, the interior will definitely blow you away! It turned out to be massive.
Some of the things we really enjoyed: the red Verona marble columns. The tri colored flooring. The two hunchback figures, one of which attributed to Paolo Veronese's elder son, Gabriele Caliari. Many beautiful chapels throughout. Definitely worth the 1 to 2 hours we spent here, especially nice on a very warm afternoon in Verona.

This church dates back to the late 13th century when construction began on the site of an earlier church. The building works took just over 200 years with the church being largely completed by 1400 although additional works continued during the next century, however, similar to some other Veronese churches, the facade was never completed.
The imposing red brick facade is effectively divided into three sections mirroring the interior central nave and two aisles. The main portal has two doors above which are a number of arches with decorated lunettes. Above the arches is a single rose window. The sections either side of the central facade section, corresponding to the two aisles, each have a very long, mullioned, stained glass window. There is also a belfry on either side.
The 72 metre tall belltower was completed in 1460 with four bells. It now has nine.
The impressive and richly decorated interior is in the shape of a Latin Cross. The three large aisles are supported by 12 red Veronese marble columns while the cross vaulted ceiling is beautifully decorated as are the ceilings of the apse and the various chapels. The floor is white, black and red.
There are five quite lovely chapels in the transept that contain a number of important works of art and frescoes. The main altar is quite impressive. It has four large columns and contains a 15th century work of art of "Our Lady enthroned between St Thomas and St Augustine".
Also of note is a 15th century fresco by Pisanello titled "St George and the Princess" which is in the Pellegrini Chapel and the woodwork in the choir of Giusti Chapel.
What also caught my attention was the hunchback figure holding up the Holy Water stoup.
Well worth a look. Single entry cost was EUR4-00 or you could buy a ticket that would allow entry to four churches, including the Duomo, for EUR8-00.

Our hotel concierge recommended this church as she said its her favorite in Verona and she was right! We loved it! What a beautiful Gothic church with amazing ceiling and ornate detail. This wonderful church was built around 1200 era by the religious Dominican Order.
The ticket price was 4 euros per person but you can buy a combo church ticket etc

St. Anastasy's Basilica is an example of Italian Gothic. There are 3 large naves supported by 12 powerful Verona red marble columns. It is the most beautiful church in Verona

Beautiful church, discreet facade hides true treasures inside. The clip of Andrea Bocelli and Aida Garifullina was recently recorded in this church.

This basilica is a marvel, wide, spacious and even colorful due to the contrast of its horizontal stripes that characterize it. For a small fee you pay entry to 4-5 churches but, after a certain time, you can enter freely

Buongiorno
