With over 600 five star reviews for Paolo it's going to be hard to say something unique or different to add anything; however, perhaps I have a different perspective. At the age of 75 I took my first overseas trip to Florence, and I went alone. It was an adventure. Based on the previous reviews, I asked Paolo to be my guide. I can't tell you how glad I am that I made that decision. Not only did I learn a great deal about Florence, but I had in Paolo an instant friend. It was a great comfort not to feel alone in another country. When Paolo said, "You can ask me any question," he meant it. He made me comfortable enough to ask all those questions that plague a new tourist. How do I get a cab? How much do I tip? Can I just plop down outside and expect a waiter to find me? How can I be a good guest in your country? As we walked around Florence he told stories, shared experiences, and I felt I was with a friend who wanted me to be as in love with Florence as he was. He reminded me, "This is your tour," and so he customized things to fit my needs. Always present with an arm so I could steady myself, I could go places I might not try otherwise. I wasn't feeling well when we toured the Uffizi and had to sit. Paolo was unfailingly patient and understanding, telling me about the paintings in the hall of this fabulous museum as I sat waiting for my back to recover, providing a tour that was tailor made for me. What I'm trying to say is, yes, as evidenced by all the previous reviews, Paolo is knowledgeable, friendly, interesting, professional and all those things one needs to be to be an excellent tour guide, but he quickly becomes a kind, caring friend. He is the consummate professional. He is quick to respond and there to guide you. You will learn about Florence, art and all things Italian, and you will fall in love with Florence. Paolo will see to that!

Paolo can be described in two words ..The Best. I cannot say enough about how he brought the Uffizi to life for us. We were not an easy group...my sister in law is an art major, my husband doesn't really like museums but is a history buff, and I have a bit confused knowledge of the Renaissance, artwork and history..He walked us through the museum and brought the works of art to life in a very easy yet educated way. He showed us how art progressed, from the Byzantine to the Renaissance, how art of the time was a reflection of the social and political scene and also informed us about the painters, the masterpieces with many details and interesting facts about the symbolism and hidden objects in the paintings. If you have any doubt...just go with him...you will be very happy. Worth every penny and then some.

I can’t recommend Paolo enough. While the big tour companies have their place, Paolo’s personal attention and genuine interest in providing an excellent experience is priceless. Paolo guided me, my wife, and her sister through the highlights of the Uffizi Gallery, and he displayed a high level of expertise interpreting the artwork and pointing out little details and other anecdotes. If I could be a tour guide, I would want to be like Paolo. Have a great trip.

If you truly want to experience Florence, Paolo is your man. His enthusiasm for his city was evident from the moment we met and he began to describe the piazza where our tour kicked off.
Paolo is an absolute fount of knowledge of Florence's history. In an afternoon, we rambled all across the city as he pointed out hidden gems. He is clearly well-known by many in Florence, and his friendly demeanor will delight you as you explore this amazing city along with him.
But it's not just the city's past that you will learn about on your tour: Paolo also has a great many recommendations on restaurants, arts, and contemporary things to see and do while you're visiting...as well as tips and tricks to make the most of it.
We have gone on quite a few private tours over the years, and have met a number of wonderful guides. I can say without reservation that Paolo is one of the best.

On our anniversary, we hired Paolo to guide us through the highlights of the Academy and the Uffizi Gallery. Paolo made the day truly memorable with his extensive knowledge. He was punctual, professional, and very responsive before the tour. Although my husband and I are not art experts, we learned much from Paolo and appreciated him answering all our questions and every minute of our tour with him.
We also visited the museums on a Saturday, which was incredibly crowded, but Paolo expertly navigated the crowds and seemed to know everyone in both museums. It also helped that he provided headsets so we could hear him clearly. We will certainly recommend him to all our friends and family traveling to Florence.

Paolo is an amazing guide! He was very knowledgeable, personable, and helpful. My wife and I planned a fairly "whirlwind tour" as we had limited time in Florence. We hit all the high spots we wanted to - The Duomo, Accademia, Uffizi, plus the main part of the city between our hotel in the Piazza Santo Spirito and the Duomo. The historical context was constantly presented by Paolo so we could understand the history and how the different pieces fit together. It was a great time! I was sick one day and he helped us with finding a Farmacia and making sure I was okay (while pointing out where the best pizza in Florence is located). We will definitely use Paolo again when we return.

The best of the best. Our tour guide Paolo was always very prompt in communicating before, during and after the trip. His recommendations were incredible every step of the way. We came from Australia and his expert advice made the trip so easy and comfortable. He has incredible knowledge of the city, the history, the architecture, the art and the food. I even thought he was a history academic! He was easy to communicate with and welcoming. Absolutely the best guide to show you around Florence and meet all your needs. He is a lovely man, it felt like we’d known him for years. Paulo. You rock. Thank you for looking after us.

Paolo was absolutely fantastic and we recommend him wholeheartedly. His knowledge of the history of his tour destinations and his ability to increase our understanding of sites was truly appreciated!

Paolo is pictured with his hands in a welcoming gesture - that is a perfect summation of his attitude, personality, and hospitality. We could not be more pleased with the day we spent touring with this exceptional private guide. Our only disappointment is that our travel schedule did not allow us to stay in Florence and book more time with Paolo! He is an exceptional talent, and a truly fine gentleman.
Our tour with him was planned as a combination of targeted overview and orientation/introduction combined with some pre-planned deep dives (e.g., Uffizi Gallery museum). Paolo learned about us and our interests before we arrived. Nonetheless, he began the day with a warm welcome, and then we discussed our interests and what WE most wanted to do with our time together. Unlike other guides, he did not use a clock or a pre-planned route/itinerary to dictate the tour, and was very flexible in making adjustments to meet our evolving interests and questions. We saw and experienced much more than we had thought we would - and at the same time felt like he was 'at our service' no matter what we might ask.
Regarding substance ... Paolo is a wealth of knowledge, both of the city and culture in general and of art/architecture/history in particular. I am a design professional, and studied both art and architecture throughout my college years, and my degree is in architecture. Both my wife and I are amateur historians regarding art and culture. I point this out because we were both delighted by his breadth and depth of knowledge, we learned much from Paolo! We were entertained by his warm personality, inspired by his passion, and enthralled as he explained the subtleties of some of the world's greatest works of art. We planned our day to be open-ended and had no evening conflict. As the end of the day approached we let Paolo know that we were not rushing him, but wanted to be respectful of his time (we did not want to impose and get 'free' guide services beyond the time we had paid). He and we were so interested in the marvels at hand that he stayed on with us to continue our invigorating discussion and viewing pleasure of masterpieces.
Paolo will be our first call when we return to Italy in general, and Florence and region in particular. Frankly, we would love to spend a week with him and say 'show us everything!' Although technically an employee, and by most standards an acquaintance, we feel like we have made a friend in Paolo. He is brilliant, gracious, and a warm host.
You will do yourself a grave disservice if you use any guide other than Paolo!
