Près de la Piazzale Michelangelo, sur la colline se trouve une petite église romane: la Basilica San Miniato al Monte. L'église a été construite sur le tombeau de Saint Minias, un martyr du christianisme. La façade de 'église peut être aperçue dans tout Florence et elle vaut vraiment le détour.

La salita è impegnativa ( nel caso non si voglia prendere il bus) ma la chiesa merita davvero una visita. Meritevoli anche il commovente cimitero ( dove troverete le tombe di Collodi, Coveri, Zeffirelli) e la piccola farmacia che produce delizie culinarie e unguenti.

Dalla terrazza un panorama di Firenze bellissimo fa da ingresso alla visita di una basilica bellissima: merita una visita.

Definitely come up to San Miniato for the views of the city. There’s less people compared to Piazzale Michelangelo and the view is so pretty. It’s free to enter the church as well, which is multi-level. It’s a very peaceful environment and there are a few people who come in to pray. There were quite a bit of stairs to climb, so be ready for a brief workout. It’s within walking distance from the city center and there were quite a few people running to workout.

I have a thing for visiting old cemeteries, and the cemetery adjacent to the Basilica di San Miniato is the oldest in Florence. The Basilica is also lovely, and the views from there of Florence are WAY better than the views from Piazzale di Michelangelo, mostly because it is so much more peaceful and less crowded. (Piazzale di Michelangelo is basically a car park, where all the tour buses stop and it is very commercialized with vendors all around). If you want the lovely view of Florence (and want to see a lovely cathedral), head up to Basilica di Miniato al Monte. This was my favourite venue in Florence.

Posto in posizione rialzata sopra piazzale Michelangelo, la basilica è di origine romanica e nella cripta custodisce le reliquie di San Miniato. Belle le tombe antistanti a destra e sinistra.

Fuimos un domingo porque nos enteramos que los monjes en festivos cantan gregorianos en la cripta.
Llegamos a la una de la tarde y hasta las dos allí solo cantaban los pájaros.
Si es cierto que unas chicas que llegaron antes que nosotros oyeron cantar a los monjes pero no le dieron mucha importancia.
La Basílica a esa hora estaba cerrada. La tienda también.
Lo mejor, el paisaje. Espectacular Florencia desde allí.
Para subir coger el bus 12. Te deja en las mismas escaleras de la basílica en la penúltima parada antes de la plaza Michelangelo.

My favorite church in Firenze. Each time I come there, I don’t miss to climb up to enjoy the view, to seat some minutes in the holy silence of the place, to offer some candles to Mother Mary and to pray.

save your euro's and spend a few hours here.Beautiful place, walk around the basillica and you will be surrounded by stunning scenery and magnificent views of florence.Painters nestled between the foilage and roses everywhere you turn.Magnificent monuments and a divine cemetery,bell tower chiming every hour.So lovely

Una basílica precisa. Me ha encantado, sobre todo sus techos y el altar mayor. Otra maravilla más de las muchas vistas en Florencia. El cementerio, impresionante también.

Hello, we have a free day in Florence and are planning to visit the Accademia gallery first thing in the morning and we would also like to visit the Boboli and Birdini gardens and then head to the Basilica of San Miniato. Is this a reasonable itinerary? Is all of this walkable and how long is the walk to San Mianato from let's say the Duomo? It would be me, my sister and my mom who is 60 and in very decent shape. Thank you in advance!

I agree that this is a challenging itinerary, with the Accademia being the other side of town from the gardens and San Miniato. If you wish to combine the gardens/San Miniato with a gallery, how about Palazzo Pitti? Much more varied collection there- the Accademia is a bit of a one-hit wonder (the David, of course) although if you like gold ground alterpieces it has an excellent collection, as well as the museum of musical instruments and other Michaelangelo statuary (the Slaves). That said, the Pitti has a huge and diverse painting collection, and the Grand Ducal Treasury of porcelain, glass, micromosaics, and more. The views from San Miniato or wonderful, as is the interior, I will emphasise finally.

We missed the chant because we arrived at the wrong time. I found the website confusing. When there we stopped in the gift shop and the woman working there spoke good English (I don't read or speak Italian.)
Even though we missed the chant, it was worth the trip because of the gorgeous view of both the church and the city. We took an Uber up and walked back down into the city. A highlight.
