‪Not worth visiting if you are in the city only for 2 days. The hall of mirrors was not possible to visit as there was a concert going on at the same time something that the staff at the ticket office failed to mention. This was not right as in reality this is the main attraction for paying a ticket to go in!‬

‪Historic 15th century building located in the city centre. It was the work of the architect and sculptor Michelozzo, on the escort of Cosimo il Vecchio, then residence of the Medici, passed only in the mid-17th century to the Riccardi family who made some changes in terms of enlargement.
The building has a square plan in the center of which there is a courtyard surrounded by a colonnaded loggia, forms these echoing the works of Leon Battista Alberti. Externally it has austere forms, however resulting in a solemn elegance. The façade is on three horizontal levels, each separated by a cornice, starting from the basal one in rougher stone, passing to the second with smooth stones up to the third with the newly sketched stones, all to create a trend gradually lighter as you ascend, lightness also guaranteed by the mullioned windows that fill the horizontal space.
The inner courtyard also follows the above philosophy; here we find the porch with Corinthian capital columns connected with round arches, all made by Michelozzo. In the walls we find several niches with statues, busts and other decorations, including that of Orpheus who enchants the fawn. Also interesting are the medallions with the Medici coats of arms.
Internally, one of the most interesting rooms is the one dedicated to the Chapel of the Magi, undoubtedly the masterpiece of Benozzo Gozzoli, already a pupil of Blessed Angelico. Located on the so-called "Piano Nobile", the name is given by the large fresco of the "Cavavalcade of the Magi", an artistic pastiche that combines religious tradition with a precise political scenario, suitable to magnify the Medici family, depicting all the main personalities who over the years came to visit Florence at the invitation of the Medici themselves. On the altar instead you can contemplate the altarpiece by Filippo Lippi depicting 'The Adoration of the Child' Also noteworthy is the large gallery of mirrors, whose frescoed ceiling was made by Luca Giordano, commissioned by the Ricciardi family in the mid-17th century, depicting mythological scenes and a central tribute to the Medici family.
Finally, in the basement there is the very recent exhibition of marbles, which collects an anthology of marble finds found in Florence that tell its story, from primitive times to the most modern ones, including the collections of the Ricciardi family.
Today, in addition to housing the aforementioned museum, it is the seat of the Metropolitan Council.‬

‪Across the road from where we stayed so we thought we’d have a look. The Medici’s were involved in most of the great Renaissance events and this is where it happened. The Renaissance led to the Modern era so what we have today basically all started in this house (palace). Compared to the great museums it’s ok, but it’s the significance of this place which hits you. Wasn’t crowded at all so good opportunities to reflect and admire the place unlike the super popular things where you just get shuffled through, get to take a few pics and then shuffled on like a herd of sheep.‬

‪The part of the Palace, beautiful, nothing to say.
The beautiful and suggestive hall of mirrors.
The Marble Museum, bad.
It consists of three rooms with some works where if you wanted to read their explanation you had to go to the last room where there was a panel with all the works previously seen listed.
And then put honestly, it's not worth it.‬

‪The Palazzo Medici Riccardi was home to the wealthy and powerful Medici family from 1444 to 1659, before selling it to the Riccardi family. It came into the possession of the city of Florence in the 1870s and now hosts local events. It may have been splendid in its day but is now largely grey and faded. You get to see several rooms in this large space but only three of them have any interest. First, is the Medici’s private chapel, the Chapel of the Magi, frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli in 1459 with a large, continuous painting showing the family and local nobility out hunting. Another room contains the rather lovely Madonna and Child by Filippo Lippi, painted in the 1480s, with perhaps his lover as the model (Lucrezia Buti). The Mirror Gallery, dating from the 1680s, is one of the finest examples of late Florentine baroque. The highlight is Luca Giordano’s fresco on the ceiling; The Apotheosis of the Medici, which is a great, if OTT, example of that floating-over-your-head technique (“di sotto in su”).‬

‪A fantastic synergy of architecture and art. The Chapel of the Magi must be seen with your own eyes, because it is impossible to show it in photographs. The Galleria degli Specchi (Mirror Gallery) is worth a stop to explore the ceiling paintings. The nice thing is that you will not be disturbed by the crowds and noise of visitors.‬

‪A short walk from the Duomo, this museum is well worth it, just to see the Medici Chapel alone! Recommend a short internet search beforehand to get a fuller appreciation of Gollozo's masterpiece and the palazzo itself. There was a lecture when I visited the Hall of the Mirrors, unfortunately. There is a special exhibition of Felice Carena's paintings which deserve attention.‬

‪The ride of the Magi and the agnus dei, of the most esoteric and mysterious chapel in Florence, alone are worth the visit of this wonderful palace, an essential starting point for those who want to deepen the history of the Medici family‬

‪Near the hotel so I visited this interesting place. Collections of artworks were amazing and incredible. The Gallery of mirrors was fine place in the palace. Wonderful view of ceiling. Not crowded. Prices were little bit expensive. Regrettably, no audio guide could be provided to realize more information. Staffs were friendly and helpful. There were other exhibitions downstairs (free entry).‬

‪Renaissance palace, residence of the Medici. Commissioned by Cosimo the old man from Michelozzo. Built very close to the church of San Lorenzo, a place chosen by the family for their burials.
It is said that the facade copied many elements of the Signoria palace, the palazzo Vecchio, in order to take certain symbols of the city to exalt the family. Later, the family would live in Palazzo Vecchio and finally Pitti Palace.
There are opinions that say that the entrance is expensive for what you can see inside compared to other museums and palaces in Florence and yes, the entrance is not cheap, but for me it is a must of Florence, especially for the magnificent Chapel of the Magi. This chapel has a pictorial cycle on the three Magi in a riding that was to culminate in the altar area of the chapel, where the main painting was the Worship of the Child, by Fra Filippo Lippi. These paintings contain a great symbology, since all the men of the Medici family belonged to the Brotherhood of the Magi and it is also significant that Lorenzo the Magnificent was baptized on the day of the Magi. It is thought that on the east wall of the chapel are represented, Cosimo, Piero and Lorenzo the Magnificent, as the three Magi. The purpose was to give the Medici family almost royal status and, in fact, Piero was so proud of it that it was the place where he received his visits. Knowing that this place was chosen by the Medici to highlight the family makes it very special.
You can also see the gallery of mirrors, with frescoes by Luca Giordano, but for me what is really valuable is the chapel.
I recommend your visit.‬
