The dome is only accessible with a cumulative ticket called Brunelleschi pass (30€).
You must reserve the access time slot when purchasing your ticket.
After a first set of stairs you enter a partition where theoretically you should admire the beauty of the frescoes, but because of dirty and striped protective glass you can not admire anything, plus the arrogant and rude security kept screaming that we could not stop but we had to keep walking... (Mah).
At the top, the view is very beautiful.
Too bad about the internal management!

... obligatory when traveling to Florence. The visit to the dome is only sold in pack, so you will have to pay 30€; the pack allows you to visit the whole monumental set for 3 days but there is no possibility to visit only the dome. It is advisable to buy the ticket well in advance.
You have 45 minutes to get up and down. On the ascent you will pass through the wider ring of the dome to see the frescoes, and on the descent you pass through the narrower ring; but you have to pass without waiting to enjoy the paintings, a pity. I got vertigo and I could enjoy them even less 😅😅. The last part of the climb is much steeper, but the good thing is that you don’t meet anyone coming down as they make sure that the previous shift has passed through; and when you get upstairs the views of the city are amazing, the climb is worth it.

At the center of the three naves of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, stands on an octagonal plan the imposing Dome by Brunelleschi, which houses on an area of 3600 m2 the largest fresco ever made. According to the sources, initially the intent was to coat the interior surfaces with golden mosaics, so that they shine in a wide visual play the interior light. The idea came from its builder, Brunelleschi, but postmortem was shelved. Only later, on the basis of Cosimo de' Medici, it was decided to fresco it, entrusting the onerous task to the Vasari-Borghini couple who developed the theme of the Last Judgment.
The dome, given the basal geometry, is presented in eight portions, each of them themed historiated up to the top, where we find the "fake lantern" where gathered in the basal perimeter there are the elders of the Apocalypse, in groups of 3 for each sector. Generally in the frescoes we find the figure of Christ enthroned by Mary and various saints, with the Holy Trinity, the Virtues and the Beatitudes. As opposed to Christ, in the opposite sector, there is Satan with hell. Inside the dome, in addition to the crawl space, there is a balcony, which you can access and visit closely the decorations. At the junction of the eight sectors there is the external lantern, accessible to the public, through which you can enjoy the Florentine panorama. In the second half of the fifteenth century Verrocchio designed the bronze globe surmounted by the cross on the end
An interesting fact is that this dome also acts as a tool to study solar phases, the light of which penetrates through a hole in the lantern and projects light to particular points on the floor below.
The summit and interior part can be visited only after purchasing the Brunelleschi Pass (30€), a foul supplement to the already substantial Firenze Card (85€).

The Duomo designed by Brunelleschi was an engineering marvel of the world when it was completed in 1436 as it was the largest dome ever built in Western Europe at that time. Today it is the iconic landmark of the beautiful city of Florence. It is truly a spectacular sight. A highlight of a visit to Florence is making the 463-step climb to the top of the dome. The panoramic views from here are stunning. Tickets should be purchased in advance online. I bought the Brunelleschi Pass that includes a timed entry to climb the Dome and entry into all the other sights at the Piazza del Duomo including Giotto's Bell Tower which can be climbed as well. The pass is good for 3 days after initiation allowing you to return to see the other sights at your leisure.

Going up the several hundred steps inside the Dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is an obligatory visit when in Florence. It is an amazing work of art and architecture. Its creator was a man called Brunelleschi who came up with this half "egg-shaped" idea for the dome. The steps inside are quite steep but not impossible, unless you are claustrophobic! The views of the dome and the interior of the building are fantastic. The nice surprise is at the very top when you emerge and you have a stunning panoramic view of the city!

The stairs up were pretty challenging for most people and to be honest, was the best part of the cupola. There were some great views inside the stairway and out of the windows. Also great views over the side of the dome once outside. As far as getting a good look at Brunelleschi's dome up close, forget it. The catwalk around the dome is very narrow, plexiglass obstructs every view, and an official kept telling people to keep moving. You can't stop to look or take pictures if you're kept moving. I honestly wouldn't recommend doing this. See the dome from the floor.

The views are amazing, great! You should know, if you start climbing the dome by stairs, there's no going back, you have to go to the top. The staircase inside the wall is narrow enough, sometimes complicated, but it's worth it. If there are mobility limitations, you should first assess your strength. But it's worth it!

The effort of the 463 steps is rewarded by the beauty that there is, both inside, with the wonderful frescoes and especially outside, where you can admire Florence from a spectacular place!

Absolutely gorgeous at the top. It can be quite a climb depending on your fitness level but completely worth the views. Great views of the inside as well. Honestly one of the highlights of our trip in Florence.

WARNING, I bought an entrance to the dome of santa maria del flora at tiqets. The e-ticket had to be enough. However, the official website of the duomo complicates matters as desired. You must find in front of the entrance of the duomo a person who holds a cover in your name with a ticket issued by opera de santa maria del flora. Please fill in, the person in question is "agreed", but without distinguishing sign, on that day.
Have a nice climb to the dome! Plexiglass embarrasses the photos, that's a shame. A lot of wind.
In summary I was very disappointed if it was to be done again, I would not go up.

Is this still included in the Firenze Card? I read that people used their Firenze Card to visit the Cupola but I can't find anything about it on the Firenze Card website.

Ciao a tutti.

Buongiorno,
Sono pieni in marmo storico.

The easiest way to book the ticket is online. If you book online, make sure to use the official site because if you buy it through a third party site, you will pay extra, for no extra benefit.
You cannot buy a ticket for just the Cupola. You have to buy a combination ticket which includes entry to the Baptistery, the Duomo Museum, the Clock Tower and the crypt (entry to the basilica is free but the lines can be very long). The ticket remains valid for 3 days.
The other important thing to know is that you will need to also book an entry time to the Cupola. At the same time that you buy your ticket, you can choose your time slot for the cupola. One of the advantages of biking online is that you can book early and have more time slots to choose from.

Buongiorno,

Buon viaggio!

Hi - We are going to Florence in October. We purchased the Firenze Card and I am reading that we need a free reservation to book a time slot for the Cupola climb... I see on your review you can do this in florence - but I'm worried there won't be any spots left!! On the website, it appear they're already running out. (And I don't want to purchase tickets when we have the museum pass). Do you think we will have an issue ?
Just trying to figure out best way to handle :)
Also - did you do the crypt too?
Thank you!!

We booked it directly in Florence. As it was January, we had no problem to have it on the same day we reserved it.

Hola !!!
From the first scan of your ticket (first entry) it is valid for 72 hours (exactly !!)
There is no time restriction for the single entries (cupola, museum,...), nobody checks thats.
For the cupola you should calculate 45 min., the campanile appr. 30 (Not so worth, you are completely caged there).
There biggest problem is to enter the cathedral, it can take 1- 2 hours (!!) to get into due to security checks. Bur you get some internal views while visiting the cupola. We skipped the visit of the cathedral and the crypt.
