This first time we visited the Acropolis (later I will write the review for the Necropolis, which is located in the part of the Park) with a guided tour. The guide was a young and passionate archaeologist who thrilled us with her explanations. Through his words we relived the discovery of the ancient city, dated 2nd century BC whose main buildings date back to Roman times (The three temples below, the road uphill, the loggias and the houses above with the beautiful mosaics with marine figures and daring history). Excavations are evolving and so, who knows, maybe next year we will see something more or different. Leaving the guide, a path through the scrub allows you to reach the top of the promontory, with a spectacular view, and the traces of the first Etruscan settlement of Populonia, where the architecture of the ancient huts in perishable materials is well evoked by the so-called King’s House.
The ticket includes the guided tour (highly recommended) me the route is equipped with explanatory panels.

The visit to the Archaeological Park was limited this time to the Acropolis and thanks to a Guide (Roberta Lucia) who was able to transmit her knowledge and her enthusiasm to those who listened to it, it turned out to be of great interest and not without surprises. Highlights of the tour remain the Roman aristocratic house with its private baths and what seem to have been the public baths with the sea mosaic (in copy, the original is in Piombino) and the mosaic, visible for now only in photos, dedicated to the cult of Venus. But all the excavations, still ongoing, are noteworthy and remind us of the prestige of Roman Populonia.

I have been twice and this was the third, it is a beautiful park, with two Etruscan necropolis and a very nice natural tour. We have arrived at 16:00, two hours before they close (the last entrance is at 16:30), but we have NOT been allowed to do the full tour of the Necropoli delle Grotte.
Partly I understand, because it is late and there will be people who have a hard time doing it, but the person who has treated us has LIED in our faces. He said he can't let us visit the necropolis because it takes five hours to do so. I've done it twice and it's NEVER taken more than two hours. On the same page of the Val di Cornia says that the tour is two hours.
He didn't let us in because he didn't feel like it. And now

Beautiful and very extensive park. We opted for the full ticket, including 3 guided tours throughout the day: acropolis and two necropolises.
Guides prepared and very pleasant (thanks Irene, Lisa and Silvia), which make the visit to the park even more enjoyable.
Recommended comfortable clothing and sneakers.
Go there: it really deserves!!

The Archaeological Park of Baratti offers a rich and immersive cultural experience, with honest prices considering that, in Italy, culture has a rather high cost. The guides are exceptional: knowledgeable, friendly and able to explain in detail but engaging, making the experience much more interesting. Although there is a lot to walk, it is absolutely worth it. This place has aroused in me a new interest in a theme that I previously approached superficially. Another positive aspect is that the park is not overly touristy, allowing you to fully enjoy the visit without much confusion.
PS. AND WHAT VIEWS!!!

We visited the acropolis and necropolis during the Etruscan feast of August 24.
The Acropolis Visit Guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. The view lasts an hour. And it's very interesting. Then there is the nature trail that leads to the king's house with beautiful panoramic views!
We then drove down to the necropolis. The Etruscan camp was set up for the feast with various "stands" in which there were super competent "Etruscans"; who dyed wool, who made coins, who told the story of the Etruscans. The camp really worth visiting. We attended dances, fights and a concert. Very particular. We visited the cave necropolis with the Audio Guide because we missed the guided tour. But it was still exhaustive.
In the evening, at 10 pm, we visited the necropolis of San Cerbone. On this, I Recommendation the day view as the evening has nothing more, and indeed, you see less because not fully lit.
Inside the necropolis there is a bar/restaurant.
At the acropolis the nearby parking is paid while that of the necropolis is free.
The Etruscan festival is worth a visit, it should certainly be more publicized, perhaps with signs on the streets.

We had read that the routes would not be practicable without sneakers but we discovered that they are also very feasible in slippers (despite getting your feet dirty).
We bought the ticket for the acropolis of Populonia and the Necropolis of San Cerbone.
As for the Necropolis, we were not thrilled: despite the Guide was very prepared and the subject was interesting, we did not see anything particular in our opinion, beyond the first large tomb. The route is also feasible independently but the large tomb is opened exclusively by the Guide (which is the only one that can be worth visiting because it is largely visible).
The Acropolis of Populonia, however, we liked it much better. Again, the Guide was very competent and nice, drawing parallels with the present day or other civilizations.
Definitely simple path even with a dog, I do not believe with small children in tow especially if with a stroller.
Interesting, many parts present, some reconstructed and others partial but gives a good idea of how the city worked.
The nature trail is worth doing (alone) but be careful because the last access is at 5.30 pm, which we were not told at the time of Reservation.
Customer service available but not punctual in giving all the information.

I had been almost 40 years ago when there was still no park and the necropolis was an uncultivated lawn behind the beach with a gate and a caretaker, I don't even remember if there were entrance fees, but I assure you there was nothing.
I returned to a very well organized place with dedicated parking separated from those of the beaches so that there is always room for visitors, a well-kept and organized park center with also a well-stocked souvenir shop and with nice and original gadgets, a great refreshment point with bar and restaurant service. Clean bathrooms. You take the ticket and are assigned to a departure time visit with a Guide that explains in a simple and really exhaustive curiosity and history of the site and the different tombs present, different in type and characteristics. We did not make the route in the woods because the temperature of August is prohibitive! Still very nice. At the entrance you will also get a discount of the for other parks in the Val di Cornia.
Two things:
- the soil shines because rich in ferrous deposits, there are scraps of iron working that covered the area until the early 1900s, when archaeology was not something to be cared for
- REMEMBER TO VALIDATE YOUR PARKING TICKET BEFORE THE EXIT, or you will have to go back up to the park center!!!

Nice experience to have with children. Between the train and visit the mine on foot (nn is long) they surprisingly preferred the second experience made. If it is hot the walk to the miners town is not to be done especially with small children.Piaciuta also to us adults and good guides. At the ticket office then give a card to get a 50% discount on other places in the Val di Conca such as Populonia

Grazie
