‪Impressive Frescoes‬

‪This church was much more than I had expected. There were two frescoes by Bernardino Luini that really impressed me. They were the “Passion and Crucifixion” and “The Last Supper”. It was free admission into the church. The church is at the southern end of Via Nassa and right across the street from the Lake Lugano promenade.‬

‪A charming small old church with lots of old paintings. It reminded me of Saint francis of Assisi. It is on the main road along the lake.‬

‪Stunning little church‬

‪A lovely little late romanesque church you should give a few minutes to when in Lugano. The simplicity of the exterior is lovely and the major art works of the interior are stunning. The fresco of the last supper on the left-hand wall is charming while the crucifixion above the altar is quite staggering. There are few, if any, finer frescoes in Europe; a bold claim but you'll probably agree as you stand in front of it!‬

‪Non so perché ma l'esterno era così anonimo che ho pensato dovesse celare qualcosa...
È stato così! Entri e ti trovi davanti un affresco parietale enorme, bellissimo, raffigurante la crocifissione.
La mano che lo aveva dipinto non mi era nuova. Ora, non sarò un esperto, ma mi sembrava di aver visto lo stesso stile a Milano e a Lodi...e non mi sbagliavo! Mi trovavo di fronte a un dipinto del Luini, allievo di Leonardo.
Non mi dilungherò sull'analisi dell'opera, non mi compete. Consiglio solo una visita.

Nota: al lato sinistro della chiesa c'è anche "un'ultima cena": anche da questa si notano "somiglianze da vinciane" e per chi vuole vedere qualcosa di curioso "l'abbraccio" che avete visto nel "Codice da Vinci" tra Cristo e "la Maddalena" qui è dipinto (intendo che San Giovanni è appoggiato alla spalla di Gesù). Se questa ultima parte non vi è chiara, è perché non ricordate l'opera di Dan Brown...non vi preoccupate, non è fondamentale!‬

‪The church of "Santa Maria degli Angioli" (Saint Mary of the Angels) is a late Romanesque church in Lugano, that was built starting from 1499.

It's a small church, with great art masterpieces:
- On the tramezzo you can see the "Passion and Crucifixion" fresco, by Bernardino Luini, the most famous Renaissance fresco in Switzerland, dated 1529
- On the tramezzo, below the "Passion and Crucifixion", two frescoes with St. Sebastian and St. Roch, by Bernardino Luini
- On the left wall another fresco by Bernardino Luini is "The last Supper"
- Other frescoes around all the church

This church is so beautiful, and should not be missed.‬
