Na lange tijd weer eens een dagje Nijmegen. En we werden positief verrast. De stad heeft veel historie, een levendige kade aan de Waal en een druk en gezellig winkelcentrum waar weinig leegstand is. Ook zijn er diverse kleine musea. Volgende keer blijven we een nachtje, genoeg te beleven daar.

Veel leuke restaurants, groot winkelcentrum veel activiteiten in de buurt zoals de schaatsbaan een bos en andere mooie bezienswaardigheden

Wenn man andere historische Städte in den Niederlanden gesehen hat, kann man vielleicht ein wenig enttäuscht sein. Meiner Meinung nach ist Nijmegen aktuell eher eine Einkaufsstadt. Man sollte in der Sommerzeit dort hinfahren.

I enjoyed a city sightseeing by walking for a day. Most of the sites are located in a city center and reachable by foot.
- St. Stephen’s Church is simple and religious, climbing up to the top is fun.
- walking around along the Main Street is really fun to stop by at food trucks and shops, see historical buildings.
- if you get tired, Valkhof park is a nice park to relax. You can see the ruin of the church there.
- the central station area shows a typical Netherlandish things.. bicycle lanes with signals for bicycles. I loved bicycle stoppers near the station. uploaded the photo.
- I regret I couldn’t see muZIEum. Better to book ahead. I jumped in when it opened in the morning but told fully booked for the Saturday.
Please walk a lot energetically, then you’ll find the charms of this pretty city a lot!

We stayed on an old barge near the bridge in Nijmegen. We had a really nice evening walking around the city centre. We shared a portion of 'frites and mayonnaise' in the pedestrian area and visited a couple of bars before having satay in a restaurant near the cathedral. Felt safe throughout with friendly people wherever we went.

Lovely Dutch town - lots to see and do here with regard to WW" and Market Garden. Some interesting old fortifications - great views. People as always are friendly.

Kommen immer wieder gerne nach Nijmegen

We ended up in Nijmegen for my 50th birthday this past weekend and almost by chance - my youngest son was on a soccer tour in and around the region and Nijmegen seemed central and the best bet for our base as touring parents - but if you’d said it was somewhere high on my list of places to go for my 50th birthday weekend, then you would have been wrong.
I’m so glad we did!
Interesting history - ancient through to operation market garden in WW2, some nice sites, good shopping and a bustling market surrounded by pleasant architecture
The weekend before our Nijmegen trip we spent 4 days in Berlin - which was great in terms of sites and it’s history but we found the nightlife very fragmented (obviously due to its size and how it’s evolved due to its divided history) anywhere we ate out involved a taxi or a walk and it didn’t feel like you could just move from bar to bar.
Nijmegen is the polar opposite - it has an amazing energetic little heart, built around a thriving student scene

Een rijke geschiedenis is terug te zien in het centrum. Helaas zijn veel mooie oude delen vergaan, toch zijn er nog veel pareltjes te vinden.
Bovendien ook een fijne gemoedelijke sfeer.
