I was so lucky to be able to enjoy Katya's fantastic tour. She really makes this tour special with her knowledge and humor. Easy to speak with and easy to like! She goes the extra mile to make sure the experience is top notch! Magnificent tour with a passionate Katya as guide is all you need to learn something new about this amazing city!

We were on a classic tour with Paul as our guide - the tour was very informative along with plenty of humour. Highly recommend doing this at the beginning of your trip as it gives your the opportunity to get to know the city and benefit from recommendations from your guide.

Had an amazing time with Marius, he is so knowledgeable with all the history with the food and can tell he is passionate and enjoys what he does! He made sure everyone was taken care of! He did a classical/food tour with our group and was super engaging! Highly recommend going this tour was a beautiful two hours with fun, laughter, history and food!

I took 2 walking tours: a classic one and a food tour.
I cannot say I was impressed with any.
For 40 min of the walking tour we stayed in one spot at Dam Square talking about bits and pieces of the Dutch history. It wasn’t very informative, and at some point ppl started yarning and getting cold. Then we stopped behind the Dam Sq, near the New Church. Only after that, we did a bit of walking. On the way, our guide would mention some info about this and that which was more fun, than the first part. We also got a stroop waffle at some point.
The food tour was quite similar: 30-40 min of talking at one spot. Then we walked not far from Dam Square and the guide pointed some nice restaurants. We made a few stops to try some food samples: stroop waffle (same place as in the walking tour, herring, cheeses (this shop offers cheese samples to all visitors), and we finished the tour in a bar where we tried the hot balls.
Both tours lasted roughly 1,5 hours.
Both guides were very friendly and good story-tellers. They were ready to answer questions.
If you a solo traveler, and in Amsterdam for the first time, and/or you are not well prepared for the trip, maybe it’s not a bad idea. This way you can learn the city a bit (though you won’t go far from Dam Sq) and meet other travelers.

Enjoyed the free classic tour with Marius. He had great stories and got to see a lot and hear some really interesting facts about Amsterdam. Would highly recommend!

I went on the Amsterdam free walking tour with Luuk. I found the experience to be awesome. He was funny, both during the script of his tour and during moments that were spontaneous. He was extremely knowledgeable about his subject and had detailed answers ready for the many questions I and the other patrons were asking. He wasn't afraid to lean in to the darker and more controversial aspects of history when they came up, and he always managed to bring a level of humor and lighten up the mood when dark topics arose. He truly was a highlight of our time in Amsterdam and I would highly recommend anyone take this tour, and cross your fingers you end up with Luuk.

I was doing free food tour ansterdam with Marius, it was very good experience and we taste very good food and were in special stores and bakeries. Very reccommend tour!

Naszym przewodnikiem był Ilja. Mówił z pasją i humorem i zaprowadził nas w ciekawe miejsce w ramach standardowego zwiedzania. Trochę za dużo mówienia kosztem zobaczenia większej ilości ciekawych miejsc. Trzeba dokonać rejestracji i zapłacić drobną opłatę rezerwacyjną ale jest to proste.

For the classic tour where does the tour end? And if we do both the classic and red light tour will we be learning some of the same information on both tours? Or are they totally different?

Hi Natalie,
The classic tour has a bit of everything and a lot of history. So there is a little overlap as the Redlight district is also told in the Classic tour.
The Redlight district tour itself goes way deeper into the suppject and shows all sides of this special area.
So it is different, we always end at the dam square again.

That is really up to you what you want to give. Most people are between 5 an 10 euro
But again it is up to you!

There seem to be several free walking tours in Amsterdam. Are these reviews of just Sandeman's or are all the companies reviewed here together, without always being specific about the company?

I found it on internet, called Free Walking Tour Amsterdam. Meeting place was Dam Square and the guide had a white umbrella. We took the classic tour.

how far is the meeting place from Anne Frank museum. I have a ticket for 11:00am and would like to do a classic tour at 14:00

According to Google Maps, it is an 8 minute walk. I did not personally go to the Ann Frank house during my visit, but based on the map, this should be an easy walk.

I did this with my parents and was not at all stressful. There is little walking to do, with many rest points in between. Although not many places where one can sit.
