Highly recommended is this. This beautiful house/villa still stands proudly for the ideals of the bauhaus group (those who followed the ideas of architect walter Gropius at the beginning of the 20th century). They wanted to make art and design available to everyone. In Huis Sonneveld you go back more than 90 years and see how a small group could at least afford this luxury.

A nice interesting visit to a villa from the 1930s. It's well reproduced and very moving. You should watch the video of about 20 minutes that explains the renovation of this beautiful villa.

Very interesting, only flaw no toilets for visitors. Tough when one of the visitors is a heart patient. We were referred to the New Institute.

When the factory director Albertus Sonneveld moved into the new house he commissioned in 1933, the family left behind all their household supplies. It was fully established in the tradition of New Living, a style that began at the beginning of the 20th century. It reached its peak between the World Wars. The Haus Sonneveld museum impressively documents how the upper middle class adapted the avant-garde.
The house is part of Rotterdam Museum Park. Tickets are available on the (somewhat confusing) website of the Nieuwe Institute, or in the museum itself. A very well made audio guide (also in German) facilitates the discovery of this fascinating building, and the lives of its inhabitants.

The Sonneveld house was built in 1933 for a family of industrialists of 4 people and their household staff, 2 or 4 people.The house was built according to the principles of Dutch modernism. It is a technical tour de force. It has been restored beautifully, the heir has been much involved in this restoration. It is visited furnished with the original furniture. Take the time to watch the 25-minute film that explains the steps of the restoration and makes the visit even more exciting. It takes an hour and a half to visit. The ticket combined with the Chabot Museum is interesting because you can admire another construction from the same period

This museum house is highly recommended to visit. Built in the 1930s for a director of the Van Nelle Factory. At that time this was a very modern villa. Very functional design. Museum card is valid. Good tour with audio guide.

Na het bezoek aan het depot kwam ik hier langs. Super leuk, reis terug in de tijd. Hoe een opdrachtgever toen al zo vooruitstrevend kon zijn. En huis met doordachte architectuur en techno snufjes. In elke kamer een huistelefoon en radio.. Wat mij opviel is de enorme hoeveelheid kastruimte. Denk dat rommel niet mocht

Für mich eine der Top Sehenswürdigkeiten in Rotterdam, wer sich für Architektur interessiert kommt wird begeistert sein. Eine Ikone im Bauhausstil, durchdacht bis ins Deatil, voll eingerichtet mit einer heraussragend guten Audioführung (wird in Englisch angeboten, nicht in Deutsch). man fragt sich, warum Millionäre heute nicht mehr so bauen lassen. Hingehen!
