An incredible experience! Great ride on little boat (for 12 people) and the opportunity to get closer to dolphins and whales than other big boats. A well-deserved 10/10!

Met het team van Sea Colors op "expeditie" geweest. Met respect voor de rust en de natuurlijke omgeving van de dieren het kustgebied van de azoren bezocht.
Een paar uur op het water met de rubber boot en daarna rustig geprobeerd terug te zeilen met Paulo.
door weinig wind toch terug gebracht met de rubberboot naar Ponta Delgada.
Wat ons erg beviel was de rustige manier van het benaderen van de dieren om ze zo veel mogelijk met rust te laten.
Ik vind dat het hele team een groot compliment moet krijgen voor de begeleiding/uitleg en de totale ervaring.
Een paar uur op het water met de rubber boot en daarna rustig geprobeerd terug te zeilen met Paulo.

Abbiamo trascorso una giornata con Sea Colors e siamo stati poco fortunati con il tempo (nuvoloso e con mare mosso) e con gli animali: abbiamo incontrato i delfini ma non le balene.
Jasmine, la biologa marina che ci accompagnava, era dispiaciuta quanto noi e ci ha generosamente proposto di portarci fuori anche il giorno seguente. Al secondo tentativo è stato fantastico: abbiamo nuotato con i delfini e abbiamo visto un enorme capodoglio. Jasmine ci ha offerto un’uscita di più di 3 ore per mostrarci le bellezze dell’avventura sull’oceano. Raccomandiamo assolutamente sea colors, tutta a gestione familiare: i gruppi non sono troppo numerosi (max 12 persone) e non si ha assolutamente la percezione di essere ammassati.
Molto bello anche per i ragazzi adolescenti che sono stati molto interessati all’iniziativa e sono rimasti affascinati anche dall’ascolto dei rumori degli animali del mare attraverso le speciali apparecchiature portate da Jasmine!

Great place! As every whale/dolphin company claims but not deliver: these guys really care about the animals. Swimming with dolphin is possible, but only when they see the animals are at ease. Did a great trip on the ocean with them and experienced an unbelievable encounter of 6 spermwhales. Multiple breaches out of the water and up & close meeting the animals, swimming towards us, we got it all. I stuck my camera in the water and got these amazing shots. Oh, I forgot the 100 dolphins playing around our boat..

Unvergessliche Expedition fernab der Massenabfertigung der großen, konventionellen Anbieter. Nicht einfach nur Whale Watching, hier ist man mit Forschern unterwegs, deren Projekte man durch die Teilnahme unterstützt. Sehr sympathisches Team, Kleingruppe von nur 8 Personen dazu noch traumhaftes Wetter und natürlich: WALE! Die sehr ruhige und private um nicht zu sagen intime Atmosphäre an Bord des Zodiacs ermöglichten es, die Begegnungen mit den Meeressäugern richtig zu genießen. Der anschließende Aufenthalt auf dem Segelboot war herrlich entspannt. Ein perfekter Tag! Lieben Dank an Jasmin, Paolo, Paulina und die Pottwale!

We did several trips over our week in Ponta Delgarda and this was definitely the best one. If you want to do a whale and dolphin watching trip I would really suggest doing one with Sea Colours.
We did the whole day trip that is a split of a sailing trip (with Paulo) and time on a rib (with Jasmine). It was pretty calm on the day we went, so the sailing was a bit slow but it meant that the rib trip was fairly calm. Obviously seeing anything from a boat under sail is pretty hit or miss (we saw a shy beaked whale from a distance, but not much else) but it was still enjoyable. On the day we went, a small group went sailing first and another group went on the rib first - we then met up at sea and swapped boats. The advantage was that when we met up with the rib at lunchtime we were able to go straight to the area where Jasmine had seen whales that morning (and be the only boat there for quite a long time). We saw sperm whales, Atlantic Spotted dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins and lots of playful Risso dolphins, and a couple of shark dorsal fins. While we did a full day trip, I think that the shorter half-day trip that they also do would also be an excellent experience.
Jasmine was great at being in touch before our visit and we really liked the ethos of the company - these are people who do research about the whales and dolphins, and going with them funds this as it allows them to undertake research on the day of the trip (identifying which individual whales are seen) and provides revenue for their ongoing research. This is different from the other commercial boats. If you are interested in supporting this work, and want to go on a trip with really lovely knowledgeable people then we would recommend this trip. When we re-visit the Azores we will book with Sea Colours again and would genuinely recommend them to anyone visiting.

Rispetto e studio dell’oceano fanno di questa esperienza il motore maggiore. I fondatori di questo tour operator sono scienziati del mare, persone che ogni giorno raccolgono informazioni utili alla tutela della fauna marina e che lottano affinché venga rispettata. Questo significa che se si incontri un gruppo di delfini venga valutata la socialità di qualche elemento e se non ci siano mamme delfino con i piccoli, o che non se ne disturbi la rotta. Una regola valida anche per i cetacei che si potranno incontrare. Questa scelta etica personalmente mi è bastata per decidere di intraprendere questa avventura immersiva nell’Oceano Atlantico. Grazie Paulo e Jasmine per averci fatti sentire parte di questo vostro grande progetto anche solo per un pomeriggio.

We wanted to see whales in a respectful way and this tour did just that.
We saw this company mentioned in a guide book, looked at recent reviews and emailed them.
Janice wrote a lengthy and informative reply and arranging the trip was easy.
Janice gives a little talk at the beginning of the trip on land, you get kitted out with waterproof jacket and trousers and life jacket, dry bags are also available.
Opportunity to use the bathrooms and off we went. It’s a small RIB and a max of 12 people so not crowded and excellent to be low in the water for great viewing of the wildlife. Crashing through the waves was great fun as we went out to sea, everyone on the lookout for that first glimpse of whales. We were not disappointed. Around 8-9 sperm whale were lazing around, enjoying a Tues afternoon doing what whales do. We must have spent around an hour or so watching this group; the boat not getting too close, being respectful at all times and not cutting across the path of the whales. Plenty of opportunity to ask questions and take photos. Janice is very informed and you can tell the wildlife is her absolute passion.
I would recommend this trip without hesitation to see whales with a company that respects their habitat.

Sea Colors is the only company you should consider going out with for dolphin / whale watching in Sao Miguel.
We booked two trips with them because we were coming to the Azores specifically for cetaceans and they did not disappoint. In addition to taking us on two exceptional trips on which we saw sperm whales It’s also clear that this company is more ethical and conscious of the animals than others. We saw other boats drive directly in the path of the animals and sort of chase them down - this was not at all the vibe with Sea colors who were instead careful to give you an amazing view of the animals but also incredibly careful to give the animals space to exhibit their natural behaviours. I hope we come back to The Azores soon and go out with them again.

The whale watching experience with Sea Colours in Ponta Delgada was an amazing experience.
Sea Colours personnel is highly professional, nice and respectful.
Sea Colours differs from other whale watching services as the personnel is highly motivated and you can feel the passion for the sea and nature they are able to share.
During our whale watching, today almost 9 sperm whales altogether, Sea Colours has always been very respectful of the sailing rules sailing at very low speed near the coast and always respecting the whales keeping the appropriate distance.
Before boarding the rubber boat you are provided with water proof trousers, jacket and bag in addition to the life vest.
Sea Colours does not use big boats with many passengers on board but only rubber boats with a limited number (max12) which is the best way to fully appreciate the experience respecting the whales.
Super recommended. If you are in Ponta Delgada you can't miss the Sea Colours whale watching experience!

Are the boats safe for pregnant women?

I wouldnt take this type of trip when pregnant - the boats are safe but they move fast over the sea and if its choppy you will move around and up and down on the seat. You are also sat astride the seat for around 4hrs which can be uncomfortable when pregnant. You are advised that you may slam down in your seat with the potential to cause back ache so there are risk factors to consider.

I never asked them specifically about this, but as far as I know, you have to come to them. They’re a relatively small operation and I doubt they have the means to offer a pickup service. They’re really good though, so I recommend making your way down to the dock to do the trip with them, you won’t be disappointed. If you don’t have your own transportation, just order a taxi...

Si. Tieni presente che la nuotata non è garantita ma si decide di poterla fare solo se i delfini lo permettono, e non a priori come fanno altre compagnie che, vendendo il prodotto non si preoccupano degli animali

Hi,
I would also wait a couple of days for a reponse via email. I booked in June 2018 and they replied in two or three days. If you're in a hurry than maybe a call would work faster. Have a great trip!
