Очень красивый дворец, с потрясающей архитектурой. Ботанический сад заслуживает отдельного внимания, нам он понравился больше, чем в Пене и Кинте. Сложно будет с колясками, брусчатка, но иногда по территории ходит автобус.

Not nearly as crowded as Pena Palace, yet it’s much more beautiful. This is according to me and a local who claims Portuguese people in general really admire this palace. Well worth visiting.
P.S. This review applies only to the palace itself as I didn’t get to see the garden due to other commitments.

This is a great little palace and gardens to visit. This is not the main palace but still worth visiting.
The gardens are set on a quite steep hill.
If you walk to the bottom, you can get the free buggy ride to the top.

One of the most amazing palaces with grandiose interior, intricate designs and super unique. Do visit this palace if you want to avoid the tourist crowds. It also has a beautiful garden and does not get as busy as other places in Sintra. You can also book your tickets online.

Monserrate is a beautiful historic palace with great English historical connections and set in a wonderful estate of interesting gardens. It is well worth a visit and for me, better than the more visited Quinta da Regaleiria which was very crowded and not as interesting as the Monserrate.
I do hope that my review is read by someone from the Monserrate management as my wife had an unfortunate fall at the ticket entrance on the day of our visit, 31st August 2023, nothing too serious as it turned out but I want the Monserrate management to know that Pedro, the Securitas officer at the entrance, attended to my wife with brilliant first aid care and attention. My wife tripped and fell on her face causing a lot of blood loss from her nose and bruising around the bridge of the nose as well as scraped and scratched knees. I called Pedro to attend and he immediately dealt with the situation with perfect first aid applications. After stabilising my wife on the ground he got her to a chair, applied an ice pack to her nose and cleaned up her scraped knees with antiseptic. Pedro was truly brilliant in this unfortunate occurrence and I hope the Monserrate management can acknowledge his care and attention with a commendation based on my review. I am pleased to say that my wife has now made a full recovery due, in no small way, to the immediate and correct first aid actions of Pedro. My grateful thanks go to him and we were able to continue our visit to the Monserrate, a little shaken, but nevertheless enjoying our visit.

The mansion and its premises are lovely and worth a visit;) The only downside is the lack of logic behind the signs pointing to the different parts of the complex. The signs are extremely misleading and they should do something about them (it's not just my impression - I stumbled upon a few confused tourists struggling (liked me) to get to the exit

A significant walk is required to access this palace unless you're lucky enough to get a ride in a purpose-built cart as we were. The gardens are attractive and restful and the building is very grand. Because it is unfurnished and lacks chandeliers etc it is hard for it to compete with the other Sintra attractions. However, the decorative features and fewer tourists are very appealing and we really enjoyed looking around and admiring the architecture and surroundings. Highly recommended.

Il palazzo è molto bello, immerso in un giardino ben curato ed enorme con un sacco di piante esotiche. La fila per l'ingresso è, come sempre in Portogallo, confusa e priva di indicazioni. Se si ha già in biglietto, bisogna fare lo stesso la fila alla cassa per farselo vidimare, se invece lo si acquista dalle casse automatiche (di fianco alla fila) non si viene controllati (largo ai furbetti...). L'unico problema è il raggiungere il posto, consiglio un tuk tuk, che essendo scoperto, evita in estate di soffocare come invece sugli autobus, che allo stesso modo devono farsi 40minuti di strada stretta e affollata

The building is very beautiful and worth a visit, the gardens are nice to. But don't go in summer because the place is fully packed with tourists!

Hi Therese,
the palace is really beautiful, not very big, but there is a wonderful garden / park around.
Unfortunately we had not enough time to enjoy the surroundings.
If I went there again, I would spend at least 2, better 3 hours in the garden and the palace.
Hope this helps - otherwise don't hesitate to ask more questions! ;-)

Hello!
I was advised to skip Pena Palace (due to the crowds *_*) So, I am thinking of adding Monserrate palace in addition to the Quinta de Regaileira.
I was wondering how much time does it take to tour the palace itself.
Also, we are arriving by a charter bus, how far is the parking from the entrance to the palace? Difficult walk?

Its quite a distance to the house down a steep valley through stunning gardens, however there is a hop on hop off buggy thing that takes you if you don’t want to walk . The house itself isn’t that big you could probably go round in an hour . I was there longer because i was enjoying the gardens which are idyllic - think garden of eden.

At the palace you can park the stroller under the stairs on the first floor, and then use the stairs to get to the second floor and the basement. It is challenging as you walk uphill as it is steep, but overall I would recommend visiting Monserrate no matter what, just keep in mind it is a bit of a workout to pull it off with a stroller. But very worthwhile.

We walked from the Monserrate Palace to the centre of Sintra in about 40 minutes, from whence there are regular buses to Cabo de Roca. Alternatively there's a circular route bus that drops off and picks up from Monserrate back to Sintra's railway station where a change of bus is required to get to Cabo de Roca.

Hello,
When I visited Montserrat, in one of the rooms, I watched a documentary/interview with one of the heir, I think. He was talking about his life there, about the lake, the gardens and the parties during world war II. Does anyone know where I can find this documentary/interview.

Can you pls provide info on whether there is a hop on hop off cart INSIDE the monserrate palace to skip the long walk through the gardens and get directly to the palace??

I know they do have mobility options the only thing not sure about is, if it's only for reduced mobility reasons or anyone.
