Yes you can but its not widely advertised. There is a turquoise Parormitis Travel minibus that leaves Yialos at 10.30am from where the Pedi bus stops/starts and I think it goes around 2pm also. There may be an even earlier bus - you can ask the driver if you see him. It doesnt stay at the monastery very long returning at 12noon and around 3.20pm. Not a lot to do in that area if you catch the morning bus and wait till the afternoon return. Or alternatively there is a Symi Travel bus which is a paler blue and also leaves at the same time as Panormitis Travel. We caught the Symi Travel bus (by mistake when we flagged it down up in Chorio) and returned by the Panormitis bus at noon. The Symi Travel bus did stop a couple of times for passengers to take photos on the way. We were worried that we were on the Symi Travel day excursion which then goes off to a beach for several hours which we didnt want hence why we got the Panormitis Travel bus back but we would have been OK as the Symi Travel bus was returning at 1pm so a little longer visit. Symi Travel do a full day excursion with this and other parts of the island on certain days - you can ask in their office. We unfortunately arrived just as the second of the large ferries was docking so really busy - however the ferries only wait about half an hour then leave so not too bad. We walked around a bit before going in the monastery just as the ferries were leaving so quieter. Not sure if going in the afternoon would be better if no ferries call in at that time. Not sure also if some days the ferries dont call in there first - we went on a Monday. Also the ferry timetables vary during the season so sorry cant be sure about the day trippers. The cost of the bus was 6 euros return.
