Tremendous insight into the lives of Danish people from 1700-1900 or so by having original houses from all areas of Danmark. A wonderful place for a day out. I would have loved to go back again and again.

On a grand autumn afternoon we spent a great couple of hours exploring the varied life in Denmark’s past. With a multitudes of original dwellings over a few centuries it gives an unparallel picture of farming, varied crafts and occupations.
It was fascinating to see the all the different buildings from every part of the country, including former territories under Denmark’s rule.
Several types of mills are present, reflecting the key function they had in the tough lives of the past.
A plethora of implements and utensils are on display, covering every aspect of day to day survival in former olden times.

Bonita experiencia para niños y adultos. Merece la pena detenerse en este encantador museo y entrar en las viviendas para conocer el modo de vida y las construcciones rurales de Dinamarca. Y si el tiempo acompaña, mejor.

20 minutes drive from Copenhagen centrum you get to time travel and see how the danes lived just a few generations back.

Jeg har været på mange andre museer i samme kategori både her i landet og i Sverige. Her møder man håndværkere og folk i gammelt tøj, det er der meget lidt af på Frilandsmuseet. Området er dejligt at gå rundt i, men flere bemandede huse ville højne oplevelsen kolossalt. Man kunne vel få lokale borgere til at tage tjansen, det tror jeg mange gerne vil prøve.

Very nice atmosphere from the minute you walk in! Many different houses and building styles. You may freely enter the houses and walk around. Good weather is a requirement. Plenty of activities scattered around the place for kids.

Vi kom tidligt søndag. Der var mange forskellige gamle huse fra landdistrikterne, både Sydslesvig og Halland. Det færøske hus, og huset med tangtag fra Læsø var nok de sjoveste.

Det er omkring 40 år siden, jeg var på Frilandsmuseet og der er ikke sket meget.
Uden for husene er der en informationstavle om hvornår og hvor huset er fra, hvor mange der har boet i huset og hvornår det er genopført. Men det er så al information man får.
Flere steder møder man et skilt at museumsgenstanden ikke må berøres, men ikke et kuk om, hvad det er.
Vi nåede ikke hele området igennem. Vi gik simpelthen kold efter en times tid.
Måske er her sjovt for børn med legeaktiviteter og hestetur.

Are their any tours from downtown Copenhagen to the Outdoor Museum and Brede Works that would deliver us to the entrance.. My husband is partially disabled and cannot walk from the train station and then manage the museums, too.

You Can easily combine local traffic which is disabled friendly, and taxi. You can make it all with local traffic, there are buses going between these attractions, it means local buses frequently from Copenhagen Centrum to Lyngby etc. almost. everything Scandinavia is handicap/ disabled friendly by law, especially when it comes to transportation.

Get a train from Copenhagen station to Sorgenfri station (Sorgenfri station is a station on the Hillerød radial of the S-train network) and walk from there, it's about 11min.

You can reach Tha National MuseUm by taking bus no. 1A, 2A or 26. The Main Central Station and Kongens Nytorv metrostation is also quite close.
