Visited to kill time while it was pouring down.
It's a bit exciting to see how the soup Islendingur was built but the overall exhibition is a bit messy.
There was some cardboard exhibition of Viking Gods but that was just to fill in the space. Would be more fun to make it more "hands on".

Much better than many museums I have visited. Hands on exhibits helped to learn how Vikings lived. The opportunity to walk the deck of the Islendingur was powerful! The Virtual Reality experience of a battle was a blast!

We walked to the museum from Hotel Keflavik. Along the way we enjoyed seeing the the Viking playground, the Viking sward, and the turf houses My favorite part of the visit to the museum was singing and dancing along during the presentation of the Viking ship the Icelander! I also enjoyed the fate of the gods exhibit. This museum is family friendly and a great stop while in Keflavik.

El Museo nos gustó mucho, por ser un tema que nos gusta mucho. El museo es pequeño y fácil de disfrutar, tanto para niños como para grandes

I visited museum with my 3,9 and 12 year old children. The only part that stood out is the Viking boat and VR experience from 1238.is
I truly recommend the owners to get rid of the rest of the rubbish and make it nice. It has a great potential, but everything is so outdated. The God exhibition is pointless and takes half of the space. I didn’t see people spending there more than 2 minutes in there. Make it more entertaining, new interesting posters which make sense and sell more variety of cakes…

Nothing exciting. Seeing the maps of Northern Canada, Greenland & iceland really put into perspective how close US is.

I love history, and I'm a museum groupie. I knew something about viking culture and history, and now I know more. I spent about an hour here. Not very busy. Family oriented.

Gave it a go after a cancelled flight being stuck here a day.
I really very much enjoyed it. Good for 2 hours if you read every single cars, which I did. I especially like you are allowed to enter/experience the Viking boat.
There was one black maze area, I think with saga illustrations/ cartoons that I feel locals understand. As an American, I had no idea what was going on. Could use a sign or two, at least at the beginning.... otherwise, very well done and worth a visit.

Something to do when there’s bad weather in Iceland, only spent 1-2 hours there. Good displays and good for learning about the Viking’s.

Is there anywhere to store our luggage while seeing this museum? We are staying in Reykjavik and don't want to waste time going back and forth to hotel before the museum.

How can get to Viking museum for opening at 7am from airport with two small kids please? Also how’s the return? We have 5.5 hour lay over and are thinking to see your museum and maybe little bit of Reykjavík. Thank you!

A 5.5 hour layover will definitely be hard to do both. Essentially you get one or the other because it take about 45 mins to get to Reykjavik and 20 mins to the museum. To get to the museum, the best thing to do is get a taxi, but to go into town you might want to look into getting a car. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the buffet breakfast post for teh viking museum. I did not see the buffet breakfast option for it on their website. Was this a normal thing they offer? Thanks.

Hello, apart from breakfast buffet we offer also soups after 11am and small refreshments: cakes, sandwiches, coffee, etc.

Viking World has a shuttle service from/to the airport. You can reserve a time an pay for it ahead of time from their website. Very convenient!

My initial reaction was 1 - 2 hours, but as Dawn has mentioned if you want to walk around outside to see the settlement remains you'd want another half hour. I was blowing a gale when I was there so I skipped the outside part...

In the case of early arrival, we can offer you a breakfast. A price for the breakfast buffet is 1800 isk per person and admission to the museum is included.
The buffet is open from 7:00 to 10:30 and you will pay on the spot.
The buffet consists of coffee and milk, tea, yogurt, sliced bread or baguete with jam/butter, cheese, meat, ham, pepperoni, boiled eggs, croissants, pastries, rolls, fruit salad, warm oat porridge, fruit juice, smoked lamb and herrings.
No seafood or fried eggs and bacon
If you would like to have a breakfast, just let me know date and number of the people.
