‪This is a fabulous museum with helpful and well informed staff. The museum is organised as a trip through the ages with terrific exhibits and some really good interactive displays. It’s also great value with free audio commentaries on your phone if you choose. Not as commercial as some others but all the better for it.‬

‪So unbelievably boring. I love museums but this one was terribly set up and organized and so boring. Don't waste your time, skip it!‬

‪Important National museum‬

‪I would strongly recommend visiting this museum when you first arrive in Iceland that way you will have a better understanding of Iceland’s history before you set off around the country. We did it at the end and we learned so much we could have benefitted from on our journey. Items are really well displayed with others in draws you may pull out and there are excellent explanations. I gave myself 1.5 hours but I could have done with a great deal more. The size of the museum does not over awe the visitor, it is really impressive.‬

‪It was interesting to walk around to learn more about Iceland. There are 2 floors you can walk around. I'm not a huge museum person but as they go, this had some interesting facts we learned.‬

‪I used my Reykjavik City Card for free entry. This museum provided a good history of Iceland with displays from the times of the Vikings to today. Displays had signs in English. There is a free audio guide that you can download onto your phone. Make sure you bring your earbuds. There is a café and a gift shop inside the museum.‬

‪A chaotic mess of a museum‬

‪While the artifacts to be sure are amazing, the layout of this museum is chaotic and awkward, impossible to follow by the numbers posted on them because it is haphardly laid out so that the numbered displays are not in order; particularly frustrating when you are trying to follow along with the audio guide. Need rearranging to be more meaningful.‬

‪We really enjoyed our visit here. We stayed almost 2 hours and particularly enjoyed the special exhibit of household items and original clothing from an old Icelandic home.

Appreciated the free lockers for coats and backpacks.‬
