‪We took a day tour of Thorsmork with Stefan. He was professional and a very experienced driver. We felt confident in his driving skills as we drove thru rivers and up the side of a hill. He brought us to sites we would have never been able to get to on our own. Majestic and memorable tour with an amazing guide. Thank you. ‬

‪Three years ago we hired Valdimar as a guide to see the northern lights. The night proved a little cloudy, so, while we saw a glow from the lights, we didn't feel that we saw them and our trip was at its end. Valdimar, during this short tour, was fantastic and drove miles over dirt roads and up the sides of mountains in pursuit of the elusive aurora. He is also a poet and a thespian and gave us a rendition of Stanley Kowalski's "Stella!" from "Street Car Named Desire". It was a memorable trip. So I called him up and asked for another tour. He suggested a combination of activities which included a tour of the lava caves, lobster dinner at a sea side restaurant, a visit to the black beach and a hunt for the lights. The tour was remarkable. 5 of us in our seventies were climbing over lava stone and ice down the lava tube, walking the black beach at night while downing a potato drink called "black death" and climbing hills and back roads in search of the lights. All the while being regaled by Valdimar with information about Iceland and stories from the past and all with a great sense of humor. If you're going to tour Iceland and want something other than a large over crowded tour bus, give Valdimar a call. You will have a memorable experience.‬

‪My boyfriend and I spent a fantastic day with Kristjan. He took us in his superjeep and we visited a glacier, walked through caverns to find hidden waterfalls and we walked through a beautiful valley. The tour was brilliant, one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland! Kristjan was so lovely and had so much knowledge to share! We cannot thank him enough and we definitely recommend a tour with him, it was incredible!‬

‪We had a fabulous 2-day trip with Kristjan in a super jeep. We did the regular stops on the golden circle and southwest itineraries but added a bunch of other custom stops. We hiked on a glacier, saw waterfalls, spend the night at Hotel Vos (separate review but also fantastic) and did some northern light viewing. Kristjan is personable and really enjoyable to spend time with. He really did a great job and I wouldn’t think twice about recommending him and his company. ‬

‪COMMENTS AND TIPS ON ICELANDIC TOUR : Peter Fan. September 1, 2017.
Iceland is a very popular tourist destination with many unusual sights and activities, including golf. The best way to see the entire country is a circular mini-bus small group tour. However, you must put up with the following annoyances - high cost of food, over-crowded airport, sub-par hotels, and lots of walking. I and my wife recently participated in such a tour with ‘NordicVisitors.com’ which specializes in small groups of 16 persons. Their web-site was very informative. We took the ‘Golden Circle Natural Wonders Tour’, consisting of 9 days, 8 nights, costing about $3700 per person, which included all hotels, all breakfasts, 6 out of 8 dinners, all ground transportation, with initial pick-up and drop-off at the airport, but excluding air flights, lunches and 2 dinners. All the other major travel agencies such as Globus, Trafalgar, and Insight, offer similar tours once a week, with similar prices, but beware, they are all fully booked well in advance.
There is the problem of the early arrival time at Reykjavik with all the airlines. Delta flies from JFK. We flew on Icelandair direct from Newark, taking a red-eye, leaving Newark at 8.00 pm, arriving at Reykjavik at 7 am, and at the hotel at 9.00 am, requiring us to beg for early check-in, which they obliged.
The initial impression is that it resembles a Scandinavian country with many blondes. The capital of Reykjavik is busy and expensive. The Keflavic Airport is like a zoo. It is big but not big enough. It is so crowded that there are no empty waiting seats anywhere. The population is only 350,000, but they have over 2 million visitors a year. They are descendants of the Vikings from Norway and Denmark. Strangely the second largest population group are Asian immigrants.
The general landscape is that of mountains, rocks, lava fields, rivers, waterfalls, with hardly any grass, flowers, shrubs, or trees. There is plenty of clean water from the mountains. In the hotels, the water from the cold water tap is drinkable. In fact, the hotels do not supply or sell any bottled water. There are so many waterfalls and rivers, that it was difficult to count them or remember their names. They all over the place, of different sizes and shapes.
In many areas, the land is relatively flat, but is very barren, not arable, like the Sahara Desert, except the sand has been replaced by old lava rocks, covered with moss or minimal vegetation. There are also rocky mountains in the distance. There was one area where the surface was similar to that on the moon, and that’s where the astronaut Neil Armstrong had trained.
The sights included - The famous house where Reagan and Gorbachov met for the first time, Bobby Fischer’s grave, the gap between the European and the North American tectonic plates, hot-water springs, geothermal areas, sulphur springs, spouting geysers, ice caps, glaciers, glacier-lagoons with a ride inside a boat with drivable wheels, amongst floating ice-bergs, a huge geothermal greenhouse containing hundreds of bees for growing tomatoes. There were also, huge lava fields, black volcanic beaches, and numerous waterfalls all over with varying sizes, shapes. There was one huge waterfall, where the water comes out half way up the side of the mountain, not from the top. There was another huge waterfall where people could walk through behind it. There was a large farm breeding Icelandic Horses, a special hardy breed, accompanied a horse trotting show. There was a remarkable horse-shoe shaped deep canyon with steep walls. The highlight was going out on a boat to the open sea, dressed in wet gear, and viewing humpback whales from a boat at about 50 feet. There were 3 or 4 whales, and they seemed to have been waiting for us, and when our boat approached, they just flipped to show off.
The weather was about 10 to 28 degrees C. Fortunately, we had no rain. There was strong sunshine, requiring sun-glasses, and sun-hat. The clothing was an important consideration. It was very windy and cold at all the sights – We wore a thick jumper as well as a heavy wind-cheater with an inner lining, a ski-type hat, gloves, and boots for walking on uneven surfaces. We also carried a thin jumper and regular shoes for indoor use.
The grounds near the sites visited were mostly covered with gravel, or small rocks, or pebbles, and were difficult to walk on if you any problems with ankles and knees, and required boots with stiff soles. We often had to walk long distances, about half a mile. It was a little tiring for seniors. On the other hand, these long walks were good physical therapy for my weak knees, which improved upon my return.
The minibus was fairly comfortable, an Italian make, Iveco. It had free wifi all the way. The iphones could be charged on the bus. Most of the time, everybody slept during the rides, because the sights are boring in between the stops, showing only lava fields, or barren flat lands, or barren mountains or rivers, or marshes. It was a good cure for insomnia. There was however one major problem. Besides the driver, there was no separate guide. After reaching a destination, all the lady driver would do was to give instructions as to how to make the long walk to the various sights. She did not accompany us, because she had to look after the vehicle. After reaching a hotel, she depended on the some male passengers to move the luggage. There was however no need for air- condition at any time, either on the bus or in the hotels.
All the hotels in the smaller cities, except those in the capital city, were quite primitive, or were simply built as stops in the wild. Some of them were worse than motels, offering no toilet accessories, no telephone in the rooms so one could not call the front desk, no handle bars in the bathroom, which was very dangerous to the seniors and the disabled. But those hotels were the best available in those locations. The hotel room in Reykjavik where we stayed cost $420 per night in the height of the summer season.
On the 5th & 6th days, we stayed in the city of Husavik in the center of the northern coast, the whale capital. The hotel there had 2 floors, with no elevators, and a 15” TV. My survey of my fellow passengers showed nobody had a working TV. The hot water out of the tap was from the hot springs, and smelled strongly of sulphur. The bathroom had no exhaust fan. So, the bedroom felt stuffy and stinky, and we had to open the windows to sleep. There was also a very long walk from the hotel to the nearest restaurant. But this was the place for whale watching from a boat, which was quite an experience, so we willingly forgave all these inadequacies. This is once in a lifetime experience, and I highly recommend it. Seeing Husavik cost us 3 to 4 of our days. Instead of doing a 9 day circular tour, one could take 4 to 5 days just to see the southern coast, and then take a same day return flight from Reykjavik to Husavik.
The quality of the food generally was quite good, and the cooking flavor was continental, agreeable, better than expected. Fish was plenty, especially salmon, and cod, also a ‘char’ which is similar to but smaller than salmon. We tried fish & chips, which was quite good, better than in London. Food however was very expensive, about 2 to 3 times NYC prices. A simple lunch of sandwich and soup can cost $40. A regular main course dinner plate can cost $90. The included breakfasts in the hotels were cold but acceptable. There was no hot stuff, no fried eggs or omelets. The cold boiled eggs and the fresh fruits were all served thinly sliced, because of the relative shortage of these items. The included dinners on the other hand, were all very good, even in the remote places. The Danish pastries were excellent, out of this world.
The TV in hotels was horrible. In Reykjavik hotels, only BBC International news, and a few other old movie channels. In the remote regions, they provided the smallest ancient TV set with one working local channel, so all week we could not watch any TV.
There was no problem with the Internet. All the smallest hotels except one provided wifi access. But the traveling mini-bus parked outside the hotel, was able to provide wifi to us inside the hotel rooms.
Regrading drinks, a liter of bottled water costs 3 to 4 dollars, and a bottle of Coke cost 5 to 6 dollars. As to the exchange rate, 1 Icelandic knona = 1 cent, and therefore 2700 krona = 27 dollars.
There is a good restaurant in Reykjavik, the “Apotek”, but it needs reservation.‬

‪Valdimar took us on a Golden Circle Day Tour including Pingvellir National Park, Gullfoss, Geysir, and Langjokul Glacier. The itinerary itself was pretty amazing but what really brought it all to life was Valdimar's friendly demeanor and ability to impart his vast knowledge in a fun and engaging manner. It was like spending the day with a good friend. He really made the experience come to life and made the kilometers fly by!‬

‪We're still in Iceland while I write this review and all I have to say is these guys are simply amazing!! I was told by numerous people when I booked the trip to Iceland to hire a private tour guide so with that in mind got in touch with Iceland all the way! I'd been speaking to Stefan over email about what I wanted to do etc and he'd suggested an itinerary! Kristjan was our tour guide and he has simply turned an amazing trip into a trip of a lifetime! He picked us up from our hotel and we spent the day discovering the south shore, the waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and black sand beaches! His knowledge and enthusiasm was amazing! He took us to a secret waterfall before decided to drive up the volcano to the glacier where we had the most breathtaking views of Westman Islands! Once back down he took us to a local dairy for a delicious lunch before heading to the beaches! Not before stopping at the wool market for a browse around! The beaches were just stunning! On the way back he enlightened us some more about the volcano which erupted in 2010 he suggested we stop at the farm at its foothill which it devastated as there was much more information not only was there more info but a 20 minute film we could watch and the family who live at the foothills to talk to! On the way back we stopped at another waterfall to take some more amazing photos! Nothing is a problem for these guys and the day is literally yours! They take you to the best and most amazing places and are more than happy to stop when and wherever to take photos! We're heading back out with Kristjan one evening for the northern lights and we can't wait! Do not hesitate in booking with Iceland all the way! We still have lots to do but this is already a trip of a lifetime that's going to be hard pushed to beat!! Thanks guys!‬

‪Iceland All the Way took us on a series of day and night tours from Reykjavik, including the Northern Lights! We hiked glaciers and saw waterfalls, boiling mud puddles, beautiful scenery and black sand beaches with gorgeous rock formations. They were very adaptable & ready for anything--including rescuing a family that got stuck in a snow drift! Always willing to indulge any request. Their guides speak perfect English & have 4x4 vehicles that get you anywhere. We had a great peel & eat langoustina dinner with them in a fishing village one night. They do it all!‬

‪We did a private tour with Iceland all the way , just two of us and Stefan the tour guide and I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable day of my life.

I had been planning this tour over email with Stefan for a few months - as it was just us we could change it to go where we wanted etc. In life very few things live up to your dreams.... But this day was perfect and all we hoped for.

Stefan picked us up on time, in fact he was early! He took us to a shop to get lunch then the tour commenced !!

We went to see volcanoes, waterfalls , glacier rivers, drove through rivers, saw black sand beaches, then visited the plane wreck on the beach.

We then decided to have dinner (langoustine feast ) which was amazing , the locals were even doing a firework display behind the restaurant - better than the ones in the UK you pay for!! Then off to hunt the northern lights!! We got some great photos of them, Stefan even drove to 5 different sites to try and get different photos / see if we could get better sights of them.

Stefans knowledge is amazing - we were in a car together for a total of 17 hours!! We discussed everything from Icelandic politics, religion, the Icelandic financial crash, law in Iceland etc etc.... At no point did he not know a answer or struggle with a answer!

See the photos I've posted of his car! It's awesome , even has wifi!!! I facetimed my mum from a glacier ! Amazing !!!

Not the cheapest day, but I'm already in contact with Stefan to plan a 2 night trip to the mountains staying in cabins! ‬
