‪Not sure if you'd ever find another potter that makes pottery with pieces of lava rocks. The vase/candle holders have a large varieties of shapes and sizes, and they wrap them very well for you to take home. Slightly pricey, but this is Iceland.‬

‪Tucked away in the Reykjavik art district is a unique ceramic gallery with pieces that are as beautiful as they are original. The artist (Guomundur Einarsson) used Icelandic lava to enhance his pottery and the results are really interesting and appealing. His studio is part of the gallery and he is happy to share his experience with you. We recently bought a piece there and Mr. Einarsson was very gracious and friendly.
Spend some time there and by all means pick up a piece of artwork that will be a lasting memory‬

‪I stopped in art shops everywhere I found them in Iceland. This place had the highest quality work at the most reasonable prices. Very nice work. Some even includes lava rock. Spectacular color glazes.‬

‪If you are in the market for unique ceramics/art, look no further. The owner is a true master of his craft. I picked up a few pieces for me and family members and they all love it.‬

‪I 'happened' along this shop while exploring Reykjavik on holiday. The pieces of art are beautiful, and the shop owner/artist is very knowledgeable and engaging! Definitely one of the highlights of my day exploring Reykjavik!‬

‪This is the oldest ceramic studio in Iceland. The present owner is the grandson of the original owner. The shop is located down a back alley off Skolavoerdustigur street, just a block or so from the big church.

I thought the prices were very fair for a ceramic shop where everything is hand made. You should be able to find something within your price range. I bought a traditional headpiece of Thor wearing the helmet with horns.‬

‪This shop is located down an alley near Hallgrímskirkja, and was worth the trip. We enjoyed the artwork, seeing the artists studio and the conversation with the artist himself. Learning the history of the ceramic workshop/store (opened in 1927 by his grandfather), and the artists creative process was a fun and informative experience.
We always purchase a local piece of artwork when we travel so when we came across this shop and the craftsmen we knew we found the piece of art that would always remind us of our time in Iceland.‬

‪A short distance from Hallgrímskirkja (the largest church in Iceland, at least by height), this unique pottery shop is a wonderful stop for both the crafts as well as speaking with the owner, Guomundur Einarsson. We spent 45 minutes there much of it speaking with him about his history and the history of Reykjavik. I also bought a piece (the candle holder in the shape of a helmeted viking) for two friends.

The store is down a small alley on the left as you ascend the hill. Established in 1927, by Guomundur's grandfather, he is the 3rd generation keeping the shop running. Even so, he has a second, main job.

Just a caution to those on a tight budget, the item I bought was not inexpensive. I have no regrets as it was unique, beautiful - especially when a candle was used, and made my friends happy.

While there were many finished pieces on display, you could also see others in various stages of work. Guomundur can also talk you through the process and show you the elements, both lava pieces and other, that he uses to make his distinct artistic pieces.‬

‪The oldest ceramic/artists workshop in Reykjavich, Iceland. It was established in 1927. Small, tidy, working studio with pieces in progress out to be seen - along with the wheels, kilns, glazes and other tools of the trade. Pieces are small to medium size (easily manageable as a carry-on). Dishes, bowls, candleholders. We bought an interesting votive candleholder with a beautiful deep grey metallic glaze which was almost mirrorlike in the abstracted shape of a viking. It's very easy to miss this small shop tucked into an alleyway - watch for the signs out on the sidewalk. Definitely worth taking a look around. Pieces are beautifully made and glazed and a lovely change from the usual tourist fare. Prices are fair given how much skill goes into making pottery (most folks would NEVER guess). Some pieces are decorated with bits of volcanic stone. I found the work to be what I've come to think of as very I Icelandic - artistic and well-executed, carefully made, and inspired by nature but with surprising bits of quirky, whimsical charm and a bit of unexpected color here and there.‬

‪This is the oldest ceramic workshop (and now a store, too) in Iceland and it's name LISTVINAHÚSIÐ means House of Artist Patrons. Since 1927, three generations make amazing hand-made pottery on the premises. You can see the kilns, the pottery wheels, meet the family and see their amazing work, most incorporating Icelandic lava in their glazed designs. A great place for the unusual present or remembrance, not the standard tourist fare, including bowls, vases, and jewelry. It's at the top of the hill right beside the spectacular Hallgrímskirkja.‬
