Housed in one of Oslo’s two synagogues from the early Twentieth Century, there are three exhibits. In the courtyard, covering the outside walls is a display on Norwegian Jewish athletes. Although the post-World War II Jewish population has been under 1000, quite a number have apparently been prominent athletes, in golf, hockey, soccer football, boxing, and skiing.
Inside, a detailed exhibit depicts the Norwegian Jews in the Holocaust. A number were taken by the Nazi troops that invaded Norway in 1940, shipped to concentration camps, where most were killed by the Nazis - only a small number returned.
Some fought in the Norwegian resistance, indeed a higher proportion than among non-Jewish Norwegians. Many were smuggled to neutral Sweden, and returned after the war. Some managed to stay hidden during the war. Both those who escaped to Sweden and those who remained hidden did so with the help of courageous non-Jews who are celebrated by name, with details of their heroic exploits.
The third section is an elementary introduction to the Jewish religious holiday cycle. Holocaust education is part of the regular school curriculum and Norwegian students visit the museum as part of their study.

Drammatico vedere le pietre d'inciampo che cospargonoo il quartiere. E il museo racconte la storia di tutte le famiglie che perirono. #NeverAgain

The Jewish Museum in Oslo is sort of hidden away but well worth visiting. The Norwegian Jewish population was small even before the Holocaust but contributed to the life of the city way above its size. The Museum documents the fate of families, some of them who lived just yards away from the museum itself. Evocative snapshots and portraits, accounts of Jewish participation in the resistance, and all placards and such are in English as well as Norwegian. Very much worth visiting

Upon reading others’ reviews of the Oslo Jewish Museum, I went. I was not disappointed and spent an hour reading all of the displays. I think this, “Remember is unto life- Jews in Norway 1940-45,” might be a temporary exhibit, but I found it extremely interesting and touching. It told stories and had photos and items of Jewish families in Norway during WWII, many of whom were deported and died. There were also videos with commentaries that I didn’t watch.
There was also a part that had the Jewish Holy Days and a brief description of what they were in English (more detail in Norwegian). I enjoyed reading about these as well.
I would highly recommend this museum!!!

This is a very interesting but sad display of Norwegian Jews who lost their lives and courageous ones who took 1000 to safety in Sweden

Definitely worth a visit, we went with our Oslo passes. I did find it very strange that the entrance is through a secure key-entry iron gate. We spent more time here than in the Viking museum as the quality of the information was great. Very interesting to hear stories from brave individuals who survived the wrath of Nazi Germany, it's important that these accounts live on in history. Although not religious myself it was also very interesting to learn more about the faith.

Consigliato!

If you are in Oslo do not miss this museum. It’s small but mighty and beautiful! The Jewish history of Oslo is depicted here and the whole world should know how they survived the Holocaust even though few returned to Oslo. The history coupled with the Jewish traditions of each season is a wonderful place to learn whether you are Jewish or not. Don’t miss this beautiful tribute to the Jewish community of Oslo, Norway!

Et lite, men interessant museum i en tidligere synagoge. Det dekker primært jødenes situasjon i Norge under VW2, med deportasjonene; og det jødiske «religiøse året». Gode skriftlige kommentarer, og også noe AV i bruk. Anbefales!
