We booked the Standard plus Zipline fjord tour & had a fabulous trip! After reading some of the previous reviews I was a little nervous about self guiding our way around & missing some of the connections but in reality it ran like clockwork. So long as you are organised, are aware of timings & read all the instructions & information given to you by Norway Active you should be fine. Luckily we had the most perfect weather & were all bowled over by how beautiful the scenery was together with the scale of the fjords - it was mind-blowing! The combination of activities (train, walk, zipline, bike & fjord safari) together made for a great & varied way of seeing the area & taking in all the sights.
The only point we'd note is that it would have been great to have made the fjord safari an hour later at 1.00pm? An extra half an hour to cycle down would have made the journey more leisurely. Plus also half an hour to have a coffee stop in Flam would have been really welcome. This would have been preferable rather than the hour in Voss waiting for the train connection back to Bergen. It just made it a little rushed but overall it was a fantastic way of seeing the fjords & I'd highly recommend.

We booked the bike/fjord tour/kayak expedition. We had assumed there would be a guide or coordinator at some point along the way, but once we got our tickets from Norway Active, we never heard from them again (including no reply to emails).
We struggled to find the bike rental place at the station (it was not where the map said), but once we did the bikes and directions were fine. We set off on our adventure and loved the views and the ride. Unfortunately, we didn't really have any sense of where we were nor how far we had to go. We thought we were doing fine time-wise, but it turns out we were not. You really need to hustle through the bike ride to be on time for the fjord tour (and they don't tell you that).
Once we got to the departure point for the fjord tour, it was easy to find them, but impossible to find where to drop the bikes. We called the fjord tour company to tell them we were at the station and trying to find the bike drop off. We got to them and they refused to board us. We were 2 of the 4 passengers on board, and we could see the boat still at the dock. The second person who spoke to us said he understood our frustration but couldn't help us, but the first person who spoke to us was just rude. Regardless, they wouldn't let us on the boat.
We ran over to the bus station and luckily there was a bus leaving for the kayaking location within minutes. We quickly paid and literally ran to the bus. Had we not been so quick at that, we would also have missed our kayaking experience.
Our kayaking experience was great. Our guide was lovely, the scenery was nice, and it was a nice reprieve from the disorganization and noncommunication of Norway Active, as well as the rudeness of the fjord tour company.
In short, I would recommend the biking and the kayaking. I can't speak to how the fjord tour would have been, although I didn't much care for the attitude of their staff. But Norway Active does nothing for you here except purchase your tickets and charge you a lot. Something you could easily do yourself.
Also, make sure you move quickly through the biking portion!

I read a lot of reviews before booking. Things I thought would be wonky were—but not that big a deal. We did the Standard with extra kayaking added. Active family with athletic young adults.
The bike ride was the best and even though I found some of the early switch back turns challenging it was fine. I walked a few while other family zipped around easily.
The safari boat ride was also fun and right length of time. For us we could have skipped the kayaking. It just was not that interesting. It was in the same fijord the boat ends at, so not new scenery. Our guide didn’t really share anything of note but was helpful with paddle techniques that were beneficial. The lunch was meh.
In general the tickets and self guiding was easy. Some things to pick on:
Confusing bike drop off. Signs and map did not match.
Nobody was around at bike pick up. No names on bikes despite instructions saying a person would be there. We just had to hop on some and hope it was right thing to do.
Not enough time to enjoy even a food truck meal in Flam. It was noon and we needed lunch but the pace of the food options and our safari check in did not work well together.
We lucked out with perfect weather. Not sure I would have enjoyed any of it if wasn’t so nice out.

Service: Poor (30mins late opening; lazy angry staff)
Bikes: Avg. Ebike key bent, battery fit problem, no bottle cages on mtb. Mudguard & rotor rubbing, chain dry.

I did the Bergen guided city cycle tour and it was excellent! I was guided by Knut and he was knowledgeable, funny, and interesting. Because we were on bike we could visit all the main touristy spots and were also shown some more traditional and off the beaten track spots… which feels a lot more authentic culturally. It was great to learn about a bit of the history of Bergen and how it’s developed.
I even asked Knut what he would do and where he would eat given the rest of the time I have in Bergen and he was so helpful. In fact I am currently sat in one of the restaurants he recommended and I’ve just had the best fish soup I’ve ever tasted…
I would highly recommend this as a way to see Bergen to get a feel for the city or get more insight or tips on where to go if you have unallocated time in your itinerary!

We had so much fun on this trip. They provide you with train tickets, which is so helpful compared to figuring out logistics by yourself. The Flåm railway is beautiful and provides a lot of historical insight on your journey. The safari itself is really cool- we had a great guide who provided a lot of context on what we were seeing as well as the history of the region. It’s a great way to see a lot of the area from Flåm to the fjords to Voss.

For being one of the most expensive companies that offer fjord trips from Bergen, they have NO presence at all throughout the trip. No where in their page they tell you that you are on your own to figure out all transportation and tour connections throughout the day. Yes, they do send a somewhat detailed email with tickets and barcodes, but unless you print everything in advance (not so simple to print at hotels nowadays), the network connectivity is not always reliable and you have to figure out (quickly) which train to take (barely just minutes between trains) or ask other operators where to go next. Fortunately other tour operators were gracious and stepped up to help. This outfit is just too expensive for the middle-man service that they offer.

I booked the bike ride with very little notice but I was greeted by a great tour guide called Harald. Harald was very knowledgeable on Bergen history and current affairs. The bike ride was great and at a good pace. Harald was open to answering all my questions and was an excellent tour guide. Thanks Harald!

Highly recommend for confident travels who don't want to be bogged down. We (5 adults) booked the Basic Tour round trip from Bergen at the end of September. The Basic Tour essentially is just paying for various forms of transportation to get some truly incredible views. This was exactly what my group was looking for. It enabled us to be independent, not stuck with a group of strangers, and avoided the super touristy vibes you get on more guided tours. This worked for us, but if you're looking for a truly guided experience with lots of information about the places you're going, you may want to find a different company because this was very self-guided.
By far, my favorite part was the Fjordsafari. You get so close to everything compared to larger cruise boats and it's a much more intimate experience due to the small size of the boats. With Norway Active, you only take the boat one-way, so you need to bring all your belongings with you. Even in the rain, everything stayed dry for us, but something to consider when packing for the day. I wish I could remember our guide's name from this part of the trip because he was informative, funny, and offered a truly wonderful experience.
Here's a few tips and things of note from the trip:
1. At Bergen Station I thought we were supposed to meet the Norway Active folks somewhere. Could have been my misunderstanding but we never found them. Didn't matter though since we had everything we needed anyway.
2. Connections can be tight. Wasn't a problem for us, but be prepared to hustle if needed and know your itinerary.
3. On the Flam Train, if your group is large enough and the space allows, try to take up space on both sides of the train. A conductor on our first train recommended this and she was absolutely right! You'll get the best views and be able to take photos without stepping on other passengers. The views are spectacular.
4. Bring snacks and water! You can get food along the way but it's a long day and you don't want to miss anything.
5. Prepare for the weather. It was very wet when we went. We were mostly inside but having the right clothing definitely made things more enjoyable. You can buy gear at the stop in Flam, but it was very busy when we were there and it wasn't cheap.
Should you take this tour? I say yes! In a 10 day trip, this consistently came up as a top 5 activates from everyone in our group. Again, if you're a new or nervous traveler, it might be best to books something more guided, but if you like your independence and feel comfortable navigating transportation, this is a fantastic option!

Traveling through the mountains and fjords by train and boat offered endless tranquil and stunning views, but it is important to know that this is mostly a "self-guided" tour! Norway Active will purchase the train tickets for you, but you will be required to arrive at the stations yourself and make sure you are on time for the next one. Because these are public trains that are on a schedule if you are late or take too long between connections your day will be ruined (we saw some people miss the connecting Flåm Railway as they took too long at the station cafe).
Once you arrive in Flåm to check in for the fjord safari, you will be part of a group that will tour the fjords together by RIB boat with a guide. Traveling through the fjords was our favorite part of our trip to Norway, I cannot recommend this enough! The views were breathtaking and our guide was incredible as he told us about different sights and locations while on the boat.
Once back on land, there was a small bus waiting for our group to take us back to the train station to end the day. Again, at this point you will not have a guide so if you decide to take time to look around Voss and are not punctual you can miss the train ride back. We unfortunately experienced some delays on our way back due to maintenance on the train, but everything else went smoothly! I am not sure why there have been some negative reviews lately, I can only assume they come from someone who missed a train due to timing.

Hi I have read about JC500 round trip from Voss, with the Fjord safari boat. As we are staying in Bergen, I will be boarding the train from Bergen to Voss and return. Do I need to get off the train at Voss to collect the tickets for the NA trip or can I stay on? I understand it is the same train, leaving on Sunday from Bergen at 8:39 and arriving at Voss at 9.53. Do we need to connect to a group or will you give us just the tickets? And how will I find the boat at 12?what sign do we need to look for? I need to book asap, so any quick reply would be really appreciated. Thanks Nicoletta

Hi I have just realised that on the 26th of May the trip will commence much earlier from Voss, a bit too early perhaps. Why is that If I may ask? I dont think it i feasible from Bergen, too tiring. Could we simply book the safari boat which is a the same time (12) and the mini bus back to Voss again at the same time? I am looking at the visitbergen but cannot post the link here

We will be doing the Basic Fjord tour, from Bergen to Myrdal by train, then the Flam Railway to Flam and then the Fjord Safari from Flam to Gudvangen. Then we're supposed to take the bus from Gudvangen to Voss to catch the train back to Bergen. Is this a regular public bus or a private van from Norway Active? Will it be waiting there near the water when we finish the fjord safari, or do we have to walk to it? Will the bus bring us directly to the train station in Voss? Or do we have to walk to the train station? Thanks.

I'm curious about the kayaking part of the trip - are there any bags provided to keep belongings dry? Does somebody watch belongings on shore? Or should I plan to bring my own waterproof bags somehow?

We are cruising and will be in Bergan for one day. Can we ride the Flam Railway and be back to our ship on the same afternoon ?
كُتب بتاريخ 10 مايو 2016
Yes you can start with train from Bergen 08:40 and be back in Bergen 16:00 with Norway Active basic fjord tour
كُتب بتاريخ 4 يونيو 2016
You mention the price is 240 USD for two. I checked their internet site and it is about 200 USD per person. Was it better value purchasing locally?

Correction: it was $240 a person. My mistake!
