‪Don't expect much from this museum as it's small but I have given it 5 stars as, taking this into account, it is an excellent little museum run by dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers.

I am no aviation enthusiast but took my two sons as we were in the area and we spent an interesting half an hour there - the museum is free but with donations requested so you can decide what to donate at the end depending on how much you get out of it. One of the volunteers also took us to a separate building where they are working on a few planes so clearly they are looking to improve the museum when opportunities to acquire new items arise. I believe this museum is only currently open on Sundays (which is when we went).‬

‪Paid a visit to the SAHG on a bright, sunny day for the first time. DirectionalSsgnage for the museum but a bit vague but once I found my way into the actual museum I was greeted warmly. I mention that I was interest in the museum and accordingly I was given a guided tour. The layout of artifacts were nicely sperate and descriptions listing there connection with Suffolk. Geoffrey Pleasance, a local artist, has numerous pencil drawings adorning the walls as the path" leads you through the years of Suffolk aviation. There are a number of cockpit sections awaiting their turn of restoration and keeps their members occupied during the winter months. I would suggest anyone with a local interest in Suffolk aviation to give the museum a visit. There's also a coffee area which includes items you can purchase to remember your visit by. To encourage potential visitors it would help to have a marketing campaign to advertise its existance and a few more direction signs on sight.‬

‪This museum is a credit to the Dedication of the Volunteers who have brought the former generator room, of the defunct USA communications centre, back to life as an aviation museum documenting Suffolk aviation. The volunteer staff were very friendly and helpful. Cafe for coffee, cakes etc. I would recommend this place if you have an hour to spare on the outskirts of Ipswich.‬

‪This is a fascinating example of WW2 and Cold War heritage and memorabilia that is well worth a visit. Run by knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers and stocks some excellent artwork..‬

‪There is no shortage of aviation themed museums near Ipswich....including this one, there is three and if you cast your net a bit further...say 50 miles...probably a half dozen.
I was in the American Air Force nearby and I'm a aviation nerd, so I knew the basics and more than most so I wasn't expecting much from this small place. I was pleasantly surprised. It museum provides a quick overview of the areas avoid action heritage.
It's just the place to take non-aviation people. You don't have to spend much time there and it's free.

A great mood del collection and three partial aircraft make up the exhibits along with various artifacts.‬

‪The Museum is situated in a now decommissioned radar base which was so secret that during the WWII it did not have a name. There are displays of WWI Royal Flying Corps model planes and memorabilia and WWII RAF and United States Air Force displays. Perhaps the most interesting of these are a detailed account of the downing of a WWI German Zeppelin in the area with photographs. There are other historical accounts together with Jet Cockpits, Turbo engines and a 50 caliber Machine Gun from a WWII Liberator. There is an account of the History of Radar development at the site. The original Radar masts are still situated at the site.
The museum itself is free admission and run by volunteers who gave us a very enthusiastic and detailed account of the background and History of Aviation in the area. It is particularly interesting as so many Airfields were located in the area first used by the RAF in WWII and later on by the American Bomber Squadrons. In all a worthwhile visit for those interested in Aviation over the last 100 years. Well done the volunteers who are striving to develop the Museum. Please see photographs attached.‬

‪We saw the signs for this when we stayed in the area in 2015, and promised ourselves we would visit when we came back. We are so glad we did, because it made for an extremely interesting morning. There was a lot to see, especially interesting for my partner, an ex-wireless ham and electronics engineer. The volunteers have amassed an amazing amount of memorabilia and the displays are well thought out and easy to see. Lots of helpful information with the exhibits, and lots of willing, capable and helpful volunteers on hand to guide us around. We were especially interested in the mock-up of the 'Secret bunker', as we have a similar one in Weeley so we understand, so were fascinated to gain an insight into what it must have been like for those who volunteered for the dangerous mission.‬

‪I was slightly disappointed but the limited areas and buildings you can visit. Hopefully they will increase the areas open to the public. ‬

Thanks for your comments. We are hoping to obtain a lease on the whole site however we have to raise £125,000 in order to do so. If we manage this we will then need to raise a further £125,000 to obtain a HLF Grant to develop the site further. Quite a task so we need all the support and donations we can get. Meanwhile we are looking to improve what we have and maintain the integrity of the buildings on the site.
