Interesting museum that was recommended to me. Somewhere to pass some time and free entry. Lots of interesting things to see that span the different ages.

Was really excited to visit this museum due to the old toys and games we knew it contained.
We arrived at the entrance as a man was coming out to it who actually looked at us like we were doing something wrong by being there. I smiled at him waiting for him to say something… nothing?! I had to say ‘Is it ok to go in?’ To which he replied yes. Not at all welcoming.
The displays themselves were nice especially the dolls houses… wow! But we didn’t like the mixture of new and old toys in the same cabinets often with no explanation of them.
The visit itself only took less than an hour. The female staff member in the gift shop on the way out was much more professional.
Would only recommend this place for the incredible dolls houses. I think the rest needs a revamp.

There are amazing museums and there are boring ones. This was certainly the former.
The display cases were so interesting but many had no illumination and were difficult to see inside.
The kitchen was fun.
There is a room of long-case clocks --- I wish that there was more information on them.

this museum is definitely worth a visit if your visiting the castle or the park or maybe even both. you can spend around 2 hours here browsing the exhibits. certainly recommend

Very nice small museum. The long case clocks were very interesting as were the dolls houses and toys. Very interesting also to see things hidden away by children back in Victorian times! The guided tours each Saturday start from the museum.

Lovely social history museum where you can take children without them being bored. Fine house and easy to get around. You can step back in time and really enjoy the exhibits.

We enjoyed exploring all the different rooms in this lovely building. Had some interactive areas for kids which was a nice touch. Also had a lovely gift shop and staff were very friendly.

We haven’t visited this museum for many years and were pleasantly surprised by its new layout and features. An ideal place for a wet day activity for young and old.

There are 3 floors of beautiful exhibits depicting life in early Colchester. Gorgeous rose gardens on grounds. Located near the beautiful Colchester park, nice place for family to enjoy. So much to enjoy.

A pleasant hour or so can be spent here not a big museum but an interesting insight into the history of the building and the town. This is free so it’s a good place to waste away some time. Good for families as lots of interactive exhibits for kids
