Our first time in Yorkshire and it’s so beautiful 🤩 the beach. Stayed in the grand opposite (we liked it but booked premium room).

The beach is the ONLY place that is not covered in dog mess. However dog owners take no notice of dog free areas on the beach.
The town itself is littered with dog poop absolutely everywhere you walk. And all you see is kebab shops, take aways and hairdressers amid the many many closed down shops and run down areas.
How can Scarborough be this run down and filthy when half an hour down the road is Bridlington which is incredibly clean, tourist focused, plenty of parking, lots of clean public toilets which were constantly being cleaned by an attendant??
The difference between the 2 towns is phenomenal!

Lovely beach. It was very busy when I visited in the summer holidays but didn’t feel cramped or crowded, plenty of lifeguards dotted about, very clean didn’t see any litter, deck chairs available to hire for just £4, toilets very accessible just opposite the beach. Would recommend coming here 👌

What has happened to Scarborough? We were saddened to see the amount of street litter and crappy shops-there was nothing good on offer except one little gem of a fossil shop on the way into town. Why did people stop caring about this place, and the locals that live there: why aren't they giving their council hell about the state of the town? It was almost like a dumping ground, we've never seen some much rubbish, including dead wild life on the streets. We left after an hour and went to another beach.

The town of Scarborough, like many UK seaside towns, has seen much better days…empty shops, derelict buildings, badly maintained buildings etc etc.
You expect seagulls obviously. But you can’t go anywhere without avoiding the pigeons.
Amusement arcades. Fish and Chip shops etc etc.
It’s essentially a dump. Avoid the town centre.
However, up in the South Cliff area, it’s beautiful. In the main, it’s very well maintained with beautiful buildings and great views, although a few streets back from the front (Esplanade) there are signs of decay, and renovations are required. The gardens along the length of the Esplanade are very nice. As is the coastline.
Scarborough Town Council need a transformation plan to completely change the centre of Scarborough. And money to do it.

£5 a donkey ride that lasts less than a minute is too much especially when I have five grandchildren. £25 can be much better spent.

What an amazing place! We took our 14 yr old daughter for a few days to see a concert but I fell in love. It's a lovely place with everything you could wish for trips out to sea on a pirate boat which I highly recommend Victorian mountain trams to the sea front and back blue water. Charming alley ways full of shops and cobble stones I can't praise it enough and the people are lovely definitely visit if you can

We had a great day out, we got the train from York, had ice cream, fish and chips, a boat ride, played pirate golf and went to the arcades. As a couple we had a great day but it is a typical cheap seaside, very crowded so hard to navigate, seagulls eating and messaging all over outdoor eating areas, if it's what you're expecting and you take it for what it is, a lovely day out can be had. We won't be revisiting, one day is enough to experience it!

Typical English sea side destination.
Wasn't even a sunny day and couldn't move on the beach.. public toilets are disgusting and cars everywhere. Town is run down and maybe the council should pump the money from the extortionate car parking charges back into the community. Lots of shops on the sea front and some fantastic fish and chips. Have been to worse beaches but also better. Wouldn't personally return anytime soon, a little gem of a cove called Cayton bay is a few miles away.. if you want clean sea and tidy beach, go there instead.

South Bay Underground Car Park is close to the beach or use the Park and Ride drops off very close to the beach and is much easier if busy.

Is there still a funfair and donkeys on Scarborough seafront...havent been for years and previous answers to these questions are years old. Anyone know what else there is to do...travelling with 3 children ages 6, 8 and 12. Staying in the Grand hotel (I know there is entertainment on in there every evening)
